i’m rewatching merlin and for me the second time i see a show it’s always more special, of course the first time it’s good because you don’t really know where the plot is going and everything is new to discover but with that being said i always love rewatching shows cause i feel like the second time everything is clearer and I can come up with new reflections on the series.
one of the thing i actually relized is that season 2 is actually so important, i would actually go as far as calling it the most important season of the show, season 1 is beautiful of course cause you actually get to know the characters and it’s the “happiest season” of the show, while in season 3/4/5 all the storylines are already developed and we are deep in the plot, however in season 2 we actually see the start of very important storylines that will be carried for the whole show.
example 1 :
in S2 Ep.8, first of all we see Morgause for the first time and she will be very important for the development of Morgana character, but mostly for the first time ever maybe in the show,until that momemt, we see Merlin choosing Arthur over his destiny.
most people may say “but Arthur and the destiny are the same no?” WRONG, Merlin’s destiny is to serve the once and future king yes but the most important thing is that magic needs to be back in the kingdom, in this episode we see Arthur coming to the realization that not everyone who has magic is bad and if Merlin had let Arthur kill Uther right then and there Arthur would’ve become king and maybe the destiny would’ve been fulfilled but Merilin knew that Arthur would’ve hated himself for killing his father when the anger would’ve subsided so he choose to lie , and doing that he choose Arthur’s well being over the destiny of Albion, we can actually see that when Arthur confirmed that he was wrong and that magic is a bad thing and when Merlin told Gaius that he lied for Arthur’s future well being.
This is actually such an important episode and the second time i’ve seen it really made me realize that.
ex.2 :
in S2 Ep.9 unlike the previous episode we see a Merlin in love, he met Freya and for the first time in his life he feels understood and for the first time ever he’s willing to sacrifice everything, his destiny,his life with Arthur and all he’s worked for.
unfortunatly fate has a cruel way to bring him back to reality and Freya gets killed by the one man who has his complete devotion and loyalty.
Freya is also Merlin’s first and only (canon) love interest throughout the whole show and this is also the first episode in which Merlin tries to choose himself and gets brutally brought back by the course of events.
At the end Merlin is mourning his lost love and the last scene of the world episode is with Arthur, Merlin proves his loyalty to Arthur everyday and this is just another episode in which he does, after what Arthur “did” (even if he didn’t know) you could guess that Merlin serbed a little bit of rancor,well wrong Merlin for better or for worse could never hate Arthur and this fact will be proved many times throughout the series.
no need to say that i bawled my eyes out for the end of this episode.
ex. 3 :
S2 Ep.11 is maybe one the most important episode in the show, we saw Morgana being against Uther many times but this is the time when a “switch” has been flicked, she defies Uther directly giving such a powerful weapon to his “enemies” knowing he will be killed, she just like Merlin wants to be understood but she has no one she can trust so she seek help and understanding the only way she can and like all the other times she tried Uther gets the only people she can rely on killed.
this time she’s angry and she literally disavows Uther, betraying him for the second time.
i honestly think this is the least interesting thing that happens in this episode though, what really broke my heart was seeing Morgana and Gwen relationship starting to fall apart and Morgana starting to dubt her trust in everyone (also in ep.13 with gwen caring more about where Arthur was than Morgana being supposedly death? like so out of character)
it was literally so heartbreaking to see their friendship being down played that much when in season one they were one of the main topics.
ex. 4 :
and last but not least S2 Ep.13 Merlin’s relationship with his father,the reveal, the heartbreak, my god that one hit a little to close to home.
for the second (and last) ime Merlin tried to choose himself and his own happiness, he wanted to build a relationship with his father, reunite his parents,go back to Eldor together, and for the second time destiny gave him a cold shower of reality and he had to hide his grieving with only another responsability resting on his shoulders
“the last dragonlord”.
(Also we got one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful merarthur’s scene in the whole show
“no man is worth your tears” will never fail to make me cry, the foreshadowing in this show will always amaze me )
of course i know that there are many more important things but i chose my personal favorites.
and nothing if you made it here you are a brave person because i honestly just wrote it to yap about merlin because i love it so much, currently on season 3 and i guess we will see eachother at the end of it because i know i will have 100 more thoughts about it.
guys i just saw a video of someone comparing brocedes to fedel and i HAD to say something because this is a criminal statement.
first of all, brocedes cannot be compared to any other rivarly, they are a tragedy,doomed souls that keep haunting the narrative even after years in the wrost way possible.
with that being said if you really want to pick a rivarly to compare it to in the tennis world then you have to choose Novandy.
Their dynamic are so similar if you think about it that its crazy. Both of them knowing each other since they were kids and growing up to be professionals in the sport they love, one of them being one of the greatest and the other giving their all just to beat them, with their win against the other being the biggest in their career (wimbledon final 2013 for Andy and WDC 2016 for Nico), their sport being the thing that brought them close and drove them apart at the same time.
of course Brocedes is much more tragic and has some much lore behind them but…..i really just wanted to yap about novandy because no one gets them like i do (and i hate when they compare brocedes amd fedel it’s just blasphemy)
