}{ What’s a cat’s favorite color?

Purr-ple! }{

Hello beloved readers! I’m Storm, and I write things on AO3. I’m primarily active in mcyt fanspaces, but among my reblogs you can also expect a fair amount of Yu Yu Hakusho, Doctor Who, Star Trek, plus some miscellaneous this and that.

My ask box is always open! I am a terribly awkward person at heart but I love interacting with people anyway. You’re welcome to ask for specific tags on posts/reblogs or to add content warnings on writing; I do my best to get the major ones but sometimes I’ll forget or misjudge something.

🗄️ I keep my tags in a file cabinet. The major ones are:

☕ Enjoy my works? I write them better and faster when I’m caffeinated and well-fed. If you’re inclined to give your local author a little treat, this Ko-Fi link can help with that.

having online friends who are busy is just like. I LOVE YOU. I miss you. YOU GOT THIS. I’m giving you space to work. I LOVE YOU.

I used the phrase “waiting on tenterhooks” and then thought “what the hell is a tenterhook”.

It’s these things! So when you’re waiting on tenterhooks, you’re stretched tight like a piece of cloth. Very evocative, now that I know what it means.

By the way, out of all times that the anime erased Atsuko from Yusuke’s life, it was how she was redacted from Chapter Black arc that was the most foul. Yusuke was killed by Sensui. This is his second death. But the anime removed Atsuko’s reaction to it so most people think she doesn’t care about what happened to him. She’s not always drunk at home. In fact, in the manga, she’s shown to have her own job to support Yusuke.

Here are the Chapter Black manga pages with Atsuko:

Here, you can see Atsuko frozen outside of their apartment. Yusuke is still not coming home while Puu is not waking up. I would imagine here Puu also feels cold to the touch.

Keiko visits Atsuko because instead of running around the town for no reason, she was studying at home. She saw Yusuke’s apartment on fire from the news on the TV because of Sensui’s attack and worried about both Yusuke and Atsuko. Atsuko stayed behind to deal with the police.

image
image

You can see here that Atsuko is scared. She was sitting alone outside their apartment. She doesn’t know where her son is. She only knows Yusuke is connected to Puu. Keiko hopes that Yusuke is fine but she has no idea what is going on either.

I hate people who hate Atsuko but most of all I hate the execs who decided they can remove Atsuko from this arc. Those men probably aren’t loved by their mothers.

I don’t know what sort of explanation Yusuke had for what happened to him but knowing Yusuke, his off-screen explanation to his mother probably wasn’t the most honest. It was Kurama who cut his hair probably because he wanted to hide what happened to him.

Bonus: sexy dead Yusuke

I think interpreting fictional characters like tarot cards could be a fun exercise in analyzing symbolism and motifs and such. Does anyone want to play symbolism with me

Oracle deck that’s just my blorbos

(Flips over a card) and here you have Spock which can represent intellect, logic over emotion, duality, uhm but depending on position he can mean internal conflict or repressed desires

(Flips over another card) so this is Data, representing artistic pursuits, philosophy, introspection – in combination with the Spock card you may be feeling emotionally disconnected, socially alienated, uhm you’re autistic,

Note that this is different from fandom art tarot decks in that the meanings are based on the characters themselves & not simply pairing the characters with existing tarot cards whose meanings they fit. However I do think pulling Magneto would be basically just The Tower

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.

My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

Some people have been wondering about the raccoon. Listen. Listennn. Don’t ask about the raccoon.

But does the racoon survive the Uruk-Hai? Does he curl up on Aragorn’s head, or does he go straight to Faramir? Does he bite Denethor?

My friend. My colleague. My brother my captain my king. I too have been pondering this question, and in my mind there can be only one ultimate outcome.

All hail the High Warden of Gondor.

Epilogue: It ADORES Faramir.

Every time I see this post I’m obligated to reblog and make it your problem too!

hey what's up with the "!" in fandoms? i.e. "fat!" just curious thaxxx <3

I have asked this myself in the past and never gotten an answer.

Maybe today will be the day we are both finally enlightened.

woodsgotweird said: man i just jumped on the bandwagon because i am a sheep. i have no idea where it came from and i ask myself this question all the time

Maybe someone made a typo and it just got out of hand?

I kinda feel like panic!at the disco started the whole exclamation point thing and then it caught on around the internet, but maybe they got it from somewhere else, IDK.

The world may never know…

Maybe it’s something mathematical?

I’ve been in fandom since *about* when Panic! formed and the adjective!character thing was already going strong, pretty sure it predates them.

It’s a way of referring to particular variations of (usually) a character — dark! Will, junkie!Sherlock, et cetera. I have suspected for a while that it originated from some archive system that didn’t accommodate spaces in its tags, so to make common interpretations/versions of the characters searchable, people started jamming the words together with an infix.

(Lately I’ve seen people use the ! notation when the suffix isn’t the full name, but is actually the second part of a common fandom portmanteau. This bothers me a lot but it happens, so it’s worth being aware of.)

“Bang paths” (! is called a “bang"when not used for emphasis) were the first addressing scheme for email, before modern automatic routing was set up. If you wanted to write a mail to the Steve here in Engineering, you just wrote “Steve” in the to: field and the computer sent it to the local account named Steve. But if it was Steve over in the physics department you wrote it to phys!Steve; the computer sent it to the “phys” computer, which sent it in turn to the Steve account. To get Steve in the Art department over at NYU, you wrote NYU!art!Steve- your computer sends it to the NYU gateway computer sends it to the “art” computer sends it to the Steve account. Etc. (“Bang"s were just chosen because they were on the keyboard, not too visually noisy, and not used for a huge lot already).

It became pretty standard jargon, as I understand, to disambiguate when writing to other humans. First phys!Steve vs the Steve right next to you, just like you were taking to the machine, then getting looser (as jargon does) to reference, say, bearded!Steve vs bald!Steve.

So I’m guessing alternate character version tags probably came from that.

100% born of bang paths. fandom has be floating around on the internet for six seconds longer than there has been an internet so early users just used the jargon associated with the medium and since it’s a handy shorthand, we keep it.

Absolutely from the bang paths–saw people using them in early online fandom back in 1993 for referring to things.

I had been doing it for a very, very long time but never actually knew the actual name for it. This is exciting! I like learning things.

I am very glad this has been going around so folks learn the Lore, but also let’s encourage it because then we get to say “bang paths” more often.
