well done on making a game! it's a decent idea: kinda like the oregon trail with zombies. some feedback: the zombie shoot section could have been a bit more satisfying ( like making them easier to kill, making the cursor a bit more responsive, and having some sounds). overall, nice work
So far, this is the game with the best and most convincing idea — great job!
Very fun game! I quite enjoyed it!
Edit after playing a second run (which we won!):
I didn't expect the game to be good to be honest, i clicked on a random game with no banner. The game is actually decently fun, has a unique implementation of the unlucky theme as well. I feel like the zombie defense rounds were a bit too slow, if the night were a bit shorter and enemies/cursor faster that would be more fun. I also liked the ghosts so you have to plan for next night to account for them. The travelling on the road is fun, i like upgrading the camp and how you have to balance resources.
I feel like if you put a nice banner and put a little effort into the page, you would get a lot more plays, i think the game is more polished than some other i have seen on here, but not many people will know because they can't get to your game in the first place sadly. Changing the background and adding a description would go a long way. Even if you had a couple screenshots and nothing it would be a big improvement, the artstyle is good and looks clean.
I don't mean this in any bad way, just as helpful criticism, the game is great and fun, but the itch.io page is lacking.
Really strong concept! Never played trail to oregon, but that was what this made me think of xD Also made me think of Death Road to Canada!
I think the night phases can be really fun when you have some items, kinda like in tower defenses, but when you have bad luck with events, or are just discovering the game and don't know what to do with resources like me, you end up watching zombies come to you without knowing if you're missing some controls or anything :( I think adding something to do in these phases, even if it's useless to gameplay, would made them feel more interesting!
And random events can be fun, I think! Having to handle situations that really mess with the chances you thought you had make for great stories xD But I don't think any goal was indicated apart from "surviving"? Maybe I missed it :( But that makes going from random event to random event more frustrating, cause that was the only thing I could be looking forward to. It's maybe too much to ask for a game jam, but having some milestones, or at least one final point, would make a huge difference in my opinion!
But still, GG!!! This is a really good looking game, especially if it's your first! xD Be careful with the size of the pixels by the way! Some screens (title screen for exemple) look like they have huge pixels compared to others!
Thank you for the game!
For criticism, I'd echo what Eli Haun said: I died a lot, and often I had no real reason to think I would die. I think a valuable lesson from tabletop RPGs is that you should always telegraph danger to your players when they're facing a potentially lethal choice, so that if they die, they feel like it was because of a reasonably informed decision they made, rather than the the GM just deciding to kill them. Other than that, I really like the concept of this game because it reminded me of adventuring with a TTRPG party in a hexcrawl or something and having random encounters happen. Cool ideas, and I'd like to see this or something similar with a bit more tolerance for suboptimal choices built in. Nice job!
I keep dieing! You asked for constructive criticism, so I have a few things that stood out to me
1) It seems that EVERY mistake you make is instant death. I understand it is a zombie game, but there needs to be a little bit of forgiveness. Players expect these kinds of games to have multiple ways to play, but as of right now there seems to be only 1 for each encounter. the cave for example causes instant death if you investigate, instead of just taking some resources
2) if using all your scrap will automatically cause the car to stop working (and the player should know that in game), then being able to 'buy' parts with all of the scrap should pop up a warning
3) Related to point 1, make more interesting ways to deal with situations. get creative, get zanny!
Overall I love the idea of this game. it reminds me of a mix or organ trail and chose your own adventure books. Would love to see a more fleshed out version
Thanks for playing! I appreciate the criticism, I definitely misused my time and ran out of time to properly balance the game. I think if I were in the same situation again it would probably be better to make the game too easy rather than too hard.
