I had trouble with the game at first as the instruction confused me but i see i had to press space bar when i had the right command set up and got to work. Interesting game you had here and good use of the notes being played and all. I also enjoy the pixel art you did for this game. Great job.
Yeah I understand that pressing space makes it a little unusual control-wise, but that was part of what I was trying to experiment with. Thanks for playing!
Thought this was funny and fun. I didn't expect to ever actually play the Tommy's Zord summoning sequence as a video game! I kinda hoped I'd here the little tune he'd play on his flute - but maybe this is based off of Super Sentai and not Power Rangers xD. Would be cool to see little bit more after successfully summoning the Zord - but that could easily have been out of your scope. Nice are and good job!
Yes I originally wanted to add an ending animation but ran out of time... but thanks for your comment and for playing!
The game is just what it wants to be, short, simple and straight to the point, and that is good.
In my particular case, with an 11 year old laptop, the keyboard does not register some particular combined inputs, like Right, Down and Space, so I could not complete the run. This could be fixed with just alternative input options.
In any case, it does not really lower my score, since it is something becoming less and less common these days with new hardware.
Anyways, good work.
So sorry the controls didn't work for you, you're right I should've added other options. I'll definitely remember to do so for future game jams. Thanks for the feedback!
This is fun, and using a Super Sentai style mech is a refreshing change from the mechs we usually see, very cool!
Thanks so much for your feedback! So glad you enjoyed it!
what a nice concerto of FLUTE x) i love it but with percussion may be better
I agree, it was my initial plan. but I ran out of time. Thanks for your feedback!
Nice and straight forward, I dig it.
Thanks very much for the kind comment!
Nice little rhythm game with cute visual style)
Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
A fun short game! I enjoyed playing it. The visuals are very nice. I would also say it, having a tune or a few of them to summon different monsters would make the process more interesting. Just as an idea, maybe, you don’t even need to create a tune of your own. There are plenty of free-to-use classic/traditional tunes. And slightly mixed traditional European music is what is sometimes used in anime.
That's a great idea! I'll keep that in mind I decide to build on the game. Thanks for playing!
A nice surprise, a tiny rhythm game. The diagonals felt a bit awkward, but did enjoy a short session still. Managed to win first try
I should've put in a hard mode lol. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
This is lore accurate - that's how mecha dragons are summoned :D
Short and sweet entry, I had fun playing it.
It seems that the notes are chosen at random. It would be cool, if there is an actual track, that we have to play, instead of random individual notes.
Thank you for your entry
Thanks for playing! Yes I had hoped to lay in an actual track but I ran out of time, so had to settle for randomly generated notes. But thanks for the feedback!
I think it might have needed a bit more information at the beginning, as i was matching the arrows, but nothing was happening until i used my game knowledge you to press spacebar lol, maybe that info is in the description, but i dont always read that when jumping into the game. Solid entry tho, once i figured it out it was fun! and i love the green ranger!! Good job!
I usually just jump into games without reading as well lol. But I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for playing!
Nice little game! I've never played a rhythm game with controls like this before. I think these controls are perfect for slow paced rhythm games. And the graphics look great. Well done
Yeah thought it would be interesting to replicate the 2-step way you play a note on a flute, by first positioning your fingers then blowing into it. That lead to this control scheme. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!
No sound. Is this is bug? Sound not working only on my PC?
Oh I'm sorry to hear that, no one else has mentioned that issue so far. Did you get into the main game? The menu doesn't have sound.
Cool little rhythm game. Loved the art, really nice stuff.
Would have been nice if the flute was a little more... musical. As in, if you were playing an actual tune. The notes all felt a little random.
Well done though!
That's great feedback thanks. There was supposed to be a backing track to go along with it which would've made it all feel more musical. Ran out of time though... Thanks again
Ok, I've never played a rhythm game like that. The controls worked really well, and I like the power rangers theme too. The UI was easy to understand, but the words at the top were kind of difficult to read.
The game was really easy, so I'm assuming this is a first kind of level, and maybe you can do more things later like land a hit for level 2 etc...
It would be infinitely better if the notes played a specific tune with different lengths of notes, and/or held notes.
Thanks for the feedback. The difficulty was a bit tricky to figure out since some friends I showed it to thought it was hard... I probably should've added a hard mode. I also agree about having different lengths of notes and I wanted to do that but I ran out of time to implement everything. Glad you liked the theme, thanks again!
Good game and nice art.
Very simple game but I love the super-sentai character design/sprites. Would love to see this with more content and maybe some beat/music in the background to pair with the notes you're playing. I had no issue with the controls. Nice work.
Yeah you're right about the background music, I was going to add some background music but ran out of time. Thanks for the feedback and for playing!
hahaha very nice, i really like the graphics and the rythm games are super fun, the consept was nicely implemented n.n
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!
Gogo legally distinct multi colored rangers !
This is such a fun concept to base a game off of that particular thing from power rangers and yet it seems like it’s the best possible combination XD
Overall the way to input the notes is well thought out and instinctive to follow, sadly it just has one small issue which break the controls a bit:
since you used the arrow keys the diagonal input seems to be a bit unresponsive, you can hit certain diagonals with perfect timing yet they don’t register at all :( and it’s not your fault it’s just a weird quirk you get with the arrowkeys on keyboard.
This could be fixed if you remapped the dirrectional input to a WASD layout or playing with a controller.
Other than that it’s a cool concept and the reference really took me back ^^
Thanks for the detailed feedback! I didn't know that using arrow keys could cause that issue, I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future. Thanks again!
No worries, It’s just that its something i noticed way back in the past with inputs mapped to arrowkeys in general for some odd reason they dont like having multiple inputs applies with certain keys pressed and that’s probably what happened here, so i didn’t personally count this as an issue with the game itself :)
Very fun idea and good visual execution. The breaking feature is the spacebar...its just redundant. The arrows are enough and then it would have bee three times more fun. Also there should be an background beat or soo, not only the flute notes.
