A tidy little word game. I wondered if all wheels had possible longer words since it felt like the randomness was sometimes against me, but I played this a bunch of times so I enjoyed trying to get better at it.
Pretty fun. For me there was always some word possible with the given letters. Very sleek and well executed. But apart from "numbers go up" doesn't seem to have much in common with the theme.
I struggled with some things that others mentioned: shuffles with not enough (or too many) vowels, the crank seemed to move the wheel very slowly compared to the effort required, and early rounds felt harder than later rounds.
I also ran into some kind of timer bug. Sometimes rounds felt really short, other times plenty of time. Then I noticed at one point I had over 4000 seconds 😂.
This feels like the core of something fun! Congrats!
I love a good word game! Thanks for making this! Couple of points:
* I got a couple of rounds with zero vowels, and a couple with 4-5 vowels that make for difficult words. In a game like Countdown, out of 9 letters there have to be at least 3 vowels and 4 consonants, so it might be nice to set some vowel and consonant minimums and randomize within those.
* It's harder to make quality words with fewer letters, so the first level is actually harder to make words in than the following levels with more letter options
* I switched to buttons for rotating the wheel pretty quickly because the crank takes a lot of movement to tick once. It seems like you went with 120 degrees per tick (on the first level, at least), which is two revolutions to fully rotate the wheel on the first level of 6 letters.
The presentation is nice, though! I appreciated the white on black bg aesthetic and the use of the fun font to tilt the letters around a little bit. Nice job!
That theme explanation is a bit of a stretch lol but the game is fun! Are you guaranteed to get a wheel with viable words each time, or is it fully random?
It's not guaranteed to give you a valid word, but it's not completely random either. Letters are weighted to be picked based on the frequency that they appear in words, so odds are, especially on the later rounds, you'll be able to spell something
Hey! Just a head's up, I'm getting an issue which prevents me from playing the game:
Update error: Scripts/Wheel.lua:156: attempt to index a nil value (upvalue 'WHEEL_TURN_SOUND')
stack traceback:
Scripts/Wheel.lua:156: in method 'moveBackward'
Scripts/Wheel.lua:83: in function <Scripts/Wheel.lua:81>
I'll see if there's any way to bypass this!
Hey sorry you ran into that. I'm not exactly sure where this is coming from since it runs fine on my device and others, but I uploaded a new build that just doesn't play that sound if it hasn't loaded for some reason so hopefully that fixes your issue!
Hey, thank you for that! I'm gonna upload it to my device which I have on hand now, and in case I will use the second build you added. Excited to give it a try!
