Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
Our vision was to explore all aspects of generosity, not just giving money or items, but encouraging the player to give characters time and going out of their way to help them.

We hope you enjoy this cozy story adventure platformer.

Please note! Due to the way our game code runs, play with your monitor/laptop display set to 60Hz to avoid issues.

Really cohesive visual design and the title peaks intrigue right off the bat! I'm not a great platformer player and didn't have much time but I had a fun experience and would love to revisit :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! The platforming is a bit hard so don't worry if you can finish it, but if you'd like to see the full story, someone has done a playthrough on YouTube :)

Your experience in game development speaks here, and the theme of generosity is fully showcased in this game. The multi-layered scenery, the sound effects, the moments of pause between interactions and dialogue, the carefully considered gameplay challenges. Even the single bug I found added to the experience, as I was moonwalking like a boss!

Moreso, you managed to tell a real, powerful, human-driven story. Despite the frustration of repeating the jumping puzzles multiple times, it was all worth it for the ending. I would not be surprised if this won best overall.

As my own grannie used say to me: "Know that you are loved."

Thank you for the kind words, we're glad you enjoyed our game! The platforming is a bit tricky, but well done for making it to the end!

Really fun game with fun dialogue and interesting characters! I had fun going around and helping the characters in Rennville, and was pleasantly delighted by the puzzles!

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the characters and puzzles!

Guys this was genuinely an extremely charming and fun game. Amazing work. The writing is really sharp and funny, the story is really satisfying despite being pretty short, and the art style is great. My only bit of feedback is that the platforming sections (mainly the tower and bubble sections) are pretty punishing for a game that is otherwise more character-driven and cozy.  But overall this was fantastic - I hope you two continue to make games together.

Developer

Thanks! Haha, yeah it seems we may have made the platforming a bit too difficult, especially for this type of game, but glad you enjoyed playing!

Amazing job. Lovely story, incredibly polished, absolutely gorgeous art! Some of the platforming was a bit tricky, but that just made me feel really delighted I got to the end. Most of all, the way there was a new shiny thing around every corner – a new item to pick up to fulfill an old quest, a new character to be charmed by, a new type of puzzle, a new scripted event type, a new twist in the narrative… it all hangs together extremely cohesively. I hope you enjoyed working together and I hope it’s the first collaboration of many!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! We did enjoy working together, and we're glad you enjoyed the experience!

Really cute game, absolutely love the sounds you did for this!! Great job.

Developer

Thank you!

It is incredibly impressive in a limited time to create a work of art so polished, like a lustrous, shining gem. You and your brother share a clear creative vision.

The only encountered issues were a lack of “sfx” for dialog, and complications when jumping. At times, the character left the platform and attempted a jump just a moment too late, causing a great fall. To remedy this, the mechanic known as “coyote time” may be of great assistance.

Developer(+1)

Thak you, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, unfortunately we ran out of time to implement all the sound fx we wanted to. The platforming also does need some work, I was thinking of ways to try implement coyote time in the game engine, but I also ran out of time to do so. Thanks again for playing and the feedback!

this was made in a small team? i am so impressed with the elaborate world-building and attention to details. there is this light-hearted humour that is pervasive throughout; and the way the narrative unfolds is cleverly crafted! a town that used to  be full of kindness...but not anymore. the way you are encouraged to do random acts of kindness (the indoor pool one was fun!); the beaver-like creature scurrying away with your letter looked so funny, i loved it!

my only feedback is I think the platforming part can be a little more polished, but no complaints otherwise

 whimsical and imaginative; well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, everything in the game was made from scratch in the game jam, except for a few free sound fx. We have realised we do need to perfect the platforming a little more, so we're hoping to update the game after the jam. Thanks again, glad you enjoyed!

a checkpoint system + improved platforming experience and this game will have a remarkable level of polish and completeness! Well done, brothers! I hope you guys keep collaborating in the future.

Wholesome & cozy adventure, even though I dont remember playing something similiar, maybe Night in the woods, it evoked some deep nostalgy, would be nice to see it polished.

Developer

Thank you for playing! We're planning to release a more polished version of the game after the jam.

This is so well made and polished, from the lighting, animations, camera shake, and all the little things that went into adding juice, it came out so well! Puzzles were fun, I enjoyed the character interactions, and this was extremely memorable!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Really glad you enjoyed it!

You and your brother should be proud, not only for making You're Not Welcome to Rennville, but for being able to do something together without driving each other insane!

Jokes aside, by far the most polished platformer I've played so far. It feels so polished-especially the little details like change of sound effect and shadows in caves, and the right amount of screenshake with hit variations like kicking and punching.

I don't have much else to say, other than maybe if you would consider showing a clear sign that players can't jump onto the attic in the rat sequence. I appreciated that the script showed rats pouring down like water, but for some reason, I kept trying to jump onto the stairs hoping I can just eliminate them from their spawn.

Great brother dynamic duo jam!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing, glad you like it!

Also, thanks for the feedback, we're hoping to update the game after the jam, so we'll try and think of a solution to signal you can't go up the stairs

The story grabbed me right away on this one. Little polish items like reverb in cave spaces added a lot. Really impressive for having a time limit!

Developer

Thanks, really happy you enjoyed our game!

The Game is so polished!!

I love the camera shake when you hit something it made me feel the impact of the hit!!

Something funny I encountered when I run into a wall the player start to have vibrate violently and sometimes I managed to make myself do a moonwalk haha!

I struggled quite a lot on the bubble level but what's a game without a challenge right? eventually i manage to get through it!

The build up to the giant rat was PERFECT! I actually felt something bad was about to happen and seeing all the rats under the platform brings me chills!

Love the music and sound effects and how the SFX changes when you're in the cave!
Especially the funny dialogue interaction with the NPCs HAHAHAHA

The story is so heartwarming and emotional :( the part where you can't run anymore to show how sad the character is was such an amazing touch. at the end all those people you helped by being GENEROUS really does paid off by them having your back. what goes around comes around just like in real life.

The end of the letter really made me emotional  :')

Such a ✨ Masterpiece✨

At this point of writing there's only 9 people rated so far which I feel that this game and the story deserve more recognition and I hope it does in the next coming days or weeks :)

Overall Very Polished and enjoyable game, sound effects & music were pleasing to the ears, mechanics is smooth and easy to understand! And definitely 10/10 for the story telling :)

Completed the game and it was worth it every bit!

Very Well Done!! :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the long review and kind words! We're really glad you enjoyed our game!

Haha, the moonwalking bug is a funny one that we're planning on fixing after the jam. Unfortunately, the character vibrating against walls seems to be a problem caused by the game engine when the game is played on a device with a higher refresh rate higher than 60Hz, so not sure how to fix that unfortunately, but thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks again for playing!

Love it! Great art and story, I love that the platforming and fighting are very chill and not related to hp or other resources.

Developer

Thank you! Yes, we decided to keep the game challenging but have the consequences more chill to match the overall tone of the game.

This is such a well built and polished game! Controls felt a bit clunky sometimes, but other than that everything else was great! Great work!

Developer

Thank you! If you can remember what felt clunky about the controls, would you mind elaborating so we can improve them in future?

Submitted(+1)

Mostly climbing up stairs or trying to jump up on a block when you're right next to it. It felt like the wrong animation was playing

Developer

Ah, ok interesting, we'll try and think of ways we could make it feel better

nice work :)

Developer

Thanks!

Finally, a game made just for me... A game where I get to fight the rats... peak gameplay 10/10

Jk jk, but being able to fight the mice was really fun! The platforming was definitely a bit of a challenge, but I enjoy it a lot! The story was also pretty fun and the dialogue/characters were super quirky. Everything about the game is well put together, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, so happy you enjoyed it! Will have to put more rat fights in future games/updates 😂

The art style is coherent and cozy, the animations and effects are clean! Very polished. The controls feels responsive and the pace feels right. The level designs are also good – feels intuitive.

It might just be a skill issue, but I find the pipes puzzle a bit hard.

Overall, very solid game! Very impressive work, good job :D

Developer

Thank you, really glad you like the art and everything! Haha, yeah the pipes can be a bit tricky, I hope it doesn't get anyone stuck

Submitted(+1)

Very heavy on narrative which makes it so engaging and immersive. The art looks incredible for the amount of time yall had, you guys have achieved A LOT. I really enjoyed the interactions and punching mice ahahhaha
It has a very emotional beat to it that I'm in love with.

Developer

Thank you so much! We definitely wanted to go with a more emotional narrative, so glad that came across!
