I love the game but I HATE RED DEFLECTS!!!!!!!!!! After playing with them for a few hours they're BAD and DUMB!!!!!!
A 'Red Deflect' is what happens when you dash backwards (away from an enemy's attack instead of into it), and it makes you take damage that doesn't kill, but still inflicts most of the attack's damage. This is obviously meant to encourage players from constantly moving away from enemies (to block attacks) by making it so that you actively take damage for being too defensive, but I've seen that Red Reflects harm aggressive players as well when they're forced to constantly dash into enemy attacks to prevent being knocked out of combo range (Such as against Gashadokuro, or the Blood Samurai with the Spellcard during the tutorial). Sometimes, you're forced to take damage while being as aggressive as you possibly can, punished by a change meant to deal with defensive players. And while the damage is high, it's not something that you'd actually notice until it's too late, and you're stuck wondering where all your HP went.
There's two solutions I see here: Either reduce the deflect time on backdash and give it its own spot in the skill list (To specify that it's a DIFFERENT, WEAKER DASH) and remove chip damage from dashing altogether, or force blocking from backdashing to take priority over a deflect. Blocking while backdashing could also have a specific thing to make it a tad bit better than normal blocking - [it'll block regardless of Auto Block-Stance, making it a safer choice than trying to go off an enemy's quick telegraphs which are often difficult to read in the heat of battle]. Blocking is more obvious than the red from Red Deflects, and a player would learn early on that it's just not an effective strategy for trying to get an easy card reveal.
Red Deflects could still exist as a weather condition or as a special effect of an enemy's attack. I think Sun Shower is a good candidate, considering its pre-existing focus on chip damage.
