It makes me so, so angry when I see those posts that are like "HORRIFYING EARLY PLASTIC SURGERY RESULTS FROM WW2," because all of those lists are full of images that aren't the final result and are used for pure shock value. Harold Gillies, who performed most of those surgeries, was an incredibly talented surgeon. Here are some images of the full results of his surgeries.

I need to emphasize that I can't post the "before" pictures that go with these because the men did not have faces. The injuries were so extensive that these men were missing nearly all of their facial features, and through cutting-edge techniques that "looked scary" at the time (e.g. extensive skin grafts), Gillies saved these men from a medical nightmare.

Gillies performed the world's first ftm bottom surgery for trans man Michael Dillon and pioneered mtf bottom surgery! Respect his legacy.

Archibald McIndoe - an incredible related read

As mentioned several times in the notes, Harold Gillies was performing these surgeries in the First World War, not the Second.

His cousin, Archibald McIndoe, improved on his techniques and worked on badly burned airmen during the Second World War. My hometown is where the Guinea Pig Club was founded.

The last two members of the club died within days of each other in October 2023; they were both 101 years old.

This happened in 2025.

His name is Chris Gatlin. He’s a Black man. AI has, for years, been worse at recognizing Black people. Black activists have been speaking up for years about how police use of AI will perpetuate racism in the justice system.

The victim repeatedly told the police that he was not a reliable witness due to sustaining a head injury from the assault. On top of this, police pressured the victim into identifying Gatlin as the suspect, even though he had already identified two other suspects. It took 17 months police to finally hand over the bodycam footage, which they conveniently forgot to say existed in the first place. The case was dismissed soon after.

This is not something that the Al-Anqars, nor the struggling hospitals in Gaza, can afford right now.

The Al-Anqars are nearly at the 50% mark of their €20,000 goal. The Palestinians and their allies are in a perilous position: ceasefire talks are said to be progressing, but Trump’s imminent presidency puts all of this on a timer. This is not to say that a ceasefire won’t/can’t happen under Trump, but we know his position on Gaza, and for everyone’s safety, it is best we treat Jan 20th like a deadline for now.

Adding on to this. Skillshare is hard to cancel. There’s a slight chance this has changed but when I looked into subscribing, there was a lot of people complaining about having to email the company multiple times to cancel.

Since Squarespace is templets, they legally own whatever you make. If you decide to change providers, you can’t take it with you. You’re stuck with them forever or have to rebuild your website from the ground up. You at least own the domain name so there’s that, but for me it’s not worth the work if I have to restart should I ever decide I hate the company.

I want more people to know this because every time I’ve looked into something advertised by youtubers, it’s never been good.

Inclusivity is not absolute, by the way. Inclusivity is not ensuring that every single space is open to every single person. It is ensuring that there is enough spaces for everyone and there is a large amount and variety of spaces open to a large variety of people. The point of inclusivity is that there are spaces for everyone, not that every single space is open to every single person.

For example if I run a rape survivor support group that is exclusive toward men, while I am inherently excluding women, I am still being inclusive of the men who need a secluded space to talk freely and safely. I am being inclusive of men who may not feel safe or comfortable discussing their rape in front of women.

Inclusivity is sometimes inherently about being exclusive. The point is that you're not being exclusive from a hateful, bigoted or negative viewpoint.

Equine therapy groups for children inherently exclude adults. But they are intended and tailored toward children. It is a space for children, which is designed and run with their needs and benefit as the focus.

Forums for disables people often are not intended for or exclude their able-bodies carers in order to provide a safe space for them to converse, get advice and offer privacy.

Inclusivity does not mean bulldozing every single space into being accessible to every single person. And a lot of people are starting to forget that.

(And yes, before you jump on it, bigots will weaponize the point, blah blah blah. Not the focus point of this discussion.)
