idk if anyone else has seen the surge of memes making fun of cave divers recently. there was a comment on one that was like "cave divers with 4 kids, 2 degrees, a loving wife and a huge house when they learn that Satan's Sphincter has a 0% survival rate" it had me crying laughing

Important, discord compromised. Careful.

apparently what actually happened is that someone got their hands on an email address and layout that LOOKS official. no actual hacking of their systems happened. i feel like it would be more widespread and catastrophic if it had. as of right now just make sure you absolutely triple check to make sure any emails from discord are real! if you get a message saying your account got TOS'd, try and log back in first. if something is wrong, contact discord support yourself.

i repeat: discord's email servers are fine! this is a phishing scam and nothing more

No fucking joke, I was offered 4 days of film-set marshalling and I told him I was unavailable for one of the days but I could cancel. And he told me he’d potentially found someone else.

I reblogged this.

And not 20 mins later, he came back to me and said if I really want it, let him know now. So fuck. Wow.

going in for two years of energy

I just wanna reblog it for the fucked up banana.

There have been many Gazans who have reached out to me this week to ask for help for their campaigns and I would like to spotlight them. It breaks my heart that so many people have been thinking they are a burden and are ashamed of asking for help. I have cried over how cruel this world is to them. I want nothing more than for anyone who can to please donate and help them get the help they and their families need. Some of these campaigns are so close and others are still far from their goal. Please donate if you are able to! No more "compassion fatigue" or apathy while you sit comfortably in your homes.

I cannot edit this post in any way right now so I implore you to take the time to look up these blogs and reblog their posts.

Please feel free to tag other bloggers for reach.

Tips from your friendly local woman with a job that gives people vicarious trauma.

- get a creative hobby. Self expression helps and so does practicing skills that use your hands if that's an option for you. Coloring counts.

- schedule downtime. You aren't a bad person if you need a break from the Horrors. You can get up to speed later. Turn off news alerts and stay off social media. Find something engaging to do and immerse yourself. At least a day or two a month. For best results, take your downtime with another human and talk about something other than the Horrors.

- get a physical hobby, if that's accessible for you. It's unfortunately true that exercise gives you endorphins. It's also good to get out of your head and into your body. Swimming is extra good because immersion in water triggers your mammalian diving reflex and calms your nervous system.

- mindfulness is another thing that I'm annoyed works but does. YouTube meditations, walking meditations, restorative practice yoga, etc.

- if you're like me, you may also need your own cannon of readings to fall back on- they don't have to be scripture from your faith (though those also work) but can be passages, poems, and song lyrics from any work where you find meaning. These help ground you and remind you of your role in all this tragedy.

Seconding all of this but also adding:

  • Don't just sit in all the misery and then log off and try to forget about it for a while just to sit in it again. *Do* something. It is much easier to unplug and take some time for self-care when you know that your time has been well-spent, that you've actually done the best you can do to help out, and that you are now *taking a break* so that you can return to help again. You don't need to do world-changing things. You just need to *genuinely* do what you know is the best of your ability. If you can fundraise? do that. Protest? Do that. Write/call your representatives? Educate your community? Provide comfort to people in need? Do that. Remember that you are part of a community, and your individual actions are not about changing the world, but helping to add another drop into the pool that will ultimately bring about change. Pick 1 cause, maybe 2. Do the things that are fully within your means to do and separate out that time so you can do that work and then give yourself time off. Even if you "only" donate a few hours of your time or a little bit of money or whatever, you are building up to something bigger.

while not an actual action item for the general strike, you could also find some Palestinian recipes to cook. Part of the attempted erasure of Palestinian identity has been Israeli appropriation of recipes/foods. (And some pan-Arab foods too)

if anyone wants to know where to look (and who to follow & support), here are some places posting Palestinian recipes:

  • mxriyum (link to her website, also on youtube, tiktok, instagram, and twitter as @\mxriyum) is Palestinian herself and has many Palestinian recipes up!
  • Palestine in a Dish (website link here) is a Palestinian recipe blogger who is also on instagram I think!
  • Falasteeni Foodie (website link here) is another Palestinian recipe blogger who can be found on tiktok and instagram under the handle @\falasteenifoodie
  • @najia-cooks has posted a lot of Palestinian recipes, I think everything is vegan as well so if you need dairy-free, egg-free, meat-free recipes it's a great source. everything is very thoroughly researched as well
  • moribyan (link to her website, also on youtube, tiktok, instagram, and twitter as @\moribyan) has a Palestinian food series, though she is Moroccan and Libyan herself (hence the name).

these are all the ones I personally know of, but I'm sure there are more out there so please share them if you know of any others :)
