frequently asked questions

Q: do you hate jensen?
A: i’ve said that i’m not a stan and people have taken that to mean i hate him. i’ve run a jensen ackles research blog since june 2021. i think it’s pretty clear i’m a fan, even if it’s in a way you don’t relate to. fandom engagement isn’t monolithic.

that’s it. that’s the whole FAQ.

now that i have a bunch of new followers, i thought i'd share something that captured the essence of what i do here. ✨

i've collected hundreds of magazines from jensen's soap years, but there are just as many issues that i haven't found yet. some i know nothing about. some i have full photos/transcripts for.

while using the wayback machine, i saw a transcript for an article from nbc soaps in depth that i didn't have in my collection. these fan archives are a bit like playing a game of telephone through the years, so the citations can be incorrect. to verify the name and date, i found an old ebay listing for this issue on worthpoint. luckily, the listing included the table of contents, which verified the info.

but still, i wasn't able to find a copy of this magazine. the nbc branch of soaps in depth was only in print from jan. 97 to dec. 99, so there aren't that many out there on the resale market. eventually, i reached out to the art director, and miraculously he responded. i can't say enough about this man's generosity, because he offered to send me dozens of photos from his personal collection.

and that's how i finally got this image below! i still hope to buy the actual issue one day so i can share high-quality scans. but until then, having this photo, taken by the man who designed the page layout himself, is a big fucking treat.

PSA to all artists / gifmakers / creators who self-reblog to recirculate their work: you shouldn't delete those self-reblogs later. I know it's tempting to do to keep things clean and organized and not have a million of the same post on your blog but, did you know that if someone likes your self-reblog (aka not the original post, but your reblog of it) and you then delete that reblog, the post disappears from their likes? Because yup, that's a thing that happens. Which means that if someone say, likes posts to later reblog them or add them to their queue or read / check out the post in greater detail later the post will be lost to them if you delete your reblogs! So don't do that, or at least wait a longer period of time before you delete / private your reblogs.

wait this never occurred to me ok good to know

Do you have any recommendations for scanners? My beautiful scanner that’s been with me for years finally croaked :(

i have the epson v19… or maybe v39? idk. it works. i do wish i got one with a larger scanning area. soap magazines are often too large and i have to stitch two scans together to get a full page. and i also can’t scan slides. but honestly if you don’t have those specific needs, then i think the one i had would work for you.
