RFK Jr said he would bring "radical transparency" to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Instead, he did the exact opposite. As soon as he took office, he ended a decades-old policy of transparency and allowing public comment on HHS policies. Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) sponsored a resolution to force RFK Jr to restore what he took away — the right for Americans to make public comments to Congress regarding their own health and well-being — a requirement of the Administrative Procedure Act passed in 1947. However, since this act was passed prior to the existence of the HHS, RFK Jr thinks it does not apply to his department. Kennedy has canceled thousands of grants and billions of dollars of research funds without any notice or opportunity for the public to comment. Sen. King argued that if the department is going to cut off research into Alzheimer’s disease and other serious illnesses, “they should let the people know that they’re doing it and why — and allow people to say, no, no, we think this is important. “To do it arbitrarily and behind closed doors and with no notice and no opportunity for people to have input is a disservice to the American people,” King said on the Senate floor. Nearly $11 billion in medical research has been canceled, including programs aimed at reducing infant deaths, mental health, autism, cancer research, etc. The vote to restore transparency to RFK Jr's Health Dept was defeated in a 50/50 tie vote. So decisions Kennedy makes about why he ignores science to promote conspiracy theories, will remain secret, and without giving the American people an opportunity to express their concerns. The rights that RFK Jr took away would have been restored if there was just one more Democrat in the Senate. Which means, if your HEALTH matters — your VOTE matters.

One of our quirks as a species is that we think our food is bland if it doesn't have enough poison in it.

Humans have a really weird mix of mundane superpowers.

We're not fast and don't have a lot of natural weaponry but we're bizarrely tolerant to a broad range of toxins to the point that one toxin is considered a morning necessity for some to perform at work. Gotta love us.
