honestly I have very mixed feelings about Scorpia’s arc in season 4 or just the entire series in general besides season 5. specifically her whole thing with Catra.

like don’t get me wrong I love Scorpia, she’s one of my fave side characters! I relate to her so much because of her story of discovering what a healthy friendship actually looks like, and trying to break free from always excusing Catra’s actions no matter how severe they get, and realizing that Catra has really been taking advantage of her kindness.

but I can’t help but also dislike how she acts when it comes to Catra. bc their “friendship” is kinda toxic from both sides ngl

Catra no doubt caused like 90% of the problems in their “friendship” but Scorpia also caused some of it because of her inability to understand Catra’s boundaries. like the first thing she does when she meets Catra for the first time is HUG her (and Catra is clearly uncomfortable with that). Catra mentioned later in season 2 that she and Scorpia have discussed the concept of “personal space” in the past. and in that episode Scorpia does sort of listen, but after she continues to just ignore Catra completely.

not to mention that the very LAST scene Scorpia has in the entire show is her hugging Catra saying “you know I’m a hugger” like girl???? Catra may not seem as uncomfortable as she was before but that doesn’t mean she suddenly is okay with that.

reminder that this is not me bashing on Scorpia in any way, shape or form so yall don’t come at me. but this isn’t something I can just put aside. I think these two need to communicate how this is a problem (alongside Catra being able to give a PROPER apology like she was going to) if their friendship were to be revived.

idk fanfic writers yall have any ideas?

I guess a lot of it has to do with Scorpia bulldozing what ever line there is supposed to be between professionalism and friendship. Catra wanted it to be as much of a professional relationship as possible, while Scorpia wanted it to be a friendship. Which only grew worse when Catra rose in prominence so it also became a superior and subordinate relationship. Mirroring Glimmers own problems with Bow and Adora in S4.

Since it’s a show about friendship and love Scorpia was in the right. If the show had other themes Scorpia’s actions would have been seen more harshly.

Along with the fact that touch aversion is seen as a negative character trait, not just a part of someone. So that it’s something that the touch averse person has to grow out of and not something people should respect. Probably a bit of the show I don’t overall care too much for.

As I gaze at the structural column in Copley Station, cracked nearly in two and held together with zip ties that have been carefully painted over to match the column underneath, I feel my soul intertwined with that of a small Italian boy of days gone by, who also stopped to look up at a large, groaning, newly painted tank full of molasses

beggars-opera

I feel that some non-Boston people think I may have been exaggerating this. While I did not snap a photo as I was on the train, someone else did several months ago. I do want to stress that this column is now freshly painted and therefore completely structurally sound and in absolutely no danger of causing the entire tunnel to collapse. And yes, it did in fact never cross my mind that the original post was nearly 105 years to the day of the Molassacre

Because it's been a while, I must share with you the important update that the column is now hidden behind plywood, because the mbta believes in peekaboo rules of engineering

#i took these pics three hours ago btw#for everyone in the notes debating what the inner structure of the pillars must be like… here’s some extra info#to be clear i am deeply fond of the green line#but she needs some work

Oh...................oh dear lord............

This is safer than it looks (I'm not qualified to say if this is safe) because the force on the concrete is pretty much entirely vertical and the horizontal force that's pushing the pieces apart is actually not that much

Practical engineering has a really cool video that explains the concept that I think makes this work

julietwiskey1

From one of the pictures above it looks like the structural member is actually an I-Beam. The concrete is probably just decorative, and not providing structural strength.

The concrete cover around the steel is not very thick, looks like an inch or less, so probably hasn’t resisted water penetration as the designers initially thought. Nowadays code requires thicker cover around columns to prevent that. But as the steel rusts it expands and breaks apart the brittle concrete.

The banding and plywood is most likely to prevent those chunks from coming loose and injuring pedestrians or the train. Not to reinforce the structure.

not my area of experience but that’s what it looks like to me it’s not a rebar column if it was it would be bad as it doesn’t even have shear ties

This is a tribute to Sunna Wehrmeijer, the composer of the music for She-Ra

We know that the show is full of parallels, but those not only implement visually or though dialogues, but also through the music - which happens so subtly but consistently

In both scenes were Adora and Catra have a confrontation with their feelings for one another, the background music is kind of their “childhood theme”

In Adora’s scene it’s shorter, but it’s still there, with almost the same notes as in Corridors, without being fully played

I know this is how scores work, nevertheless Sunna pays so much attention to detail with her music throughout the whole show

She did the most amazing job and She-Ra would only be half as emotional without Sunna’s magic

[I tried to mute the voices so you can focus on the music]

julietwiskey1

I really loved the music of She-Ra. So good. I wish they gave us more of the music.

The childhood theme is one of the more poignant ones.
