Problematic writing choices of the Duffers:

This post will be focusing on problematic tropes (more so than the many plot holes).Prior to this, I thought some of these writing choices were intentional subtext and symbolism for a greater plot point (and that these tropes would later be subverted) . This wasn't the case. I'm mentioning these tropes now: for people to grasp why we shouldn't reward the Duffers in their future projects. And how normalizing these tropes (in main stream shows) will negatively impact future story telling for the worse.
  • Fridging trope: El embodies this as her death is used as a catalyst for various male character's development in the finale. The Duffers saying El was never going to be with the gang in the end , because she "represents the magic of childhood" for the boys is just sad. Because yes-characters can represent something but writers need to understand they're MORE than just a symbol of something (they're also a person/character in the narrative). The fact she also represents the magic of childhood of all things is awfully portrayed since Jane herself never even had a real childhood - and because of the writers , she's also deprived of an adulthood .
  • In s5, bringing back Kali (one of the only brown girls in the show) to essentially just make her suffer and die. They brought her back: k*lled her found family , had her tortured by the gov again, and then she's shot by the gov. God forbid, a brown girl shoots her white oppressors (the writers have to k*ll her the same way she offed her abusers). Kali targeting her ab*sers was portrayed as morally questionable/nuanced in the show. But white Jim & Nancy mowing down random soldiers with bullets, or El killing a bunch of American/soviet soldiers was just to make them look 'bad ass'. The audience never has to question their morality for doing so- only Kali's. If you believe's mike's theory: that would mean they just used Kali to save and give the white heroine a happy ending (which is gross optics in and of itself).
  • If you believe that El died along with Kali (this is also problematic). They couldn't let El/Kali : the victims of government oppression and abuse get a "happy ending" . In fact both die due to the government .What an uplifting message during these fraught political times. Remember Hopper’s speech where the whole point was Kali/El shouldn’t have to off themselves since they deserve a happy ending (despite life being unfair to them constantly)? What was the point? Idk , if you don't die , off yourself if life has been cruel.Killing El / kali to stop the "cycle " isn’t empowering at all. It’s a harmful message to ab*se survivors!!!

"I'm all in baby": Eric Kripke's Condition for a Supernatural Reboot May Not Even Need Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki

"I'm all in baby": Eric Kripke's Condition for a Supernatural Reboot May Not Even Need Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki https://share.google/jiijOlTgcPhUbLpUg

I never read this article before. But Kripke saying he would do a reboot without the brothers has me laughing. "A fresh story," he says. A story about the origins of the Men of Letters or a western about the paranormal adventures of Samuel Colt and other hunters. I'm dying. Lmaoooooo In what universe does he think people would watch this??

Well, I book this under clickbait. Kripke talks a lot of shit. And even IF he would find an untold story, he would experience the same failure as Jensen with TW. Supernatural IS Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen.

I’ve found Kripke is as much of an unreliable narrator as Misha is. I guess that’s why he always sympathises with him and throws him a bone once in a while.

now that i have a bunch of new followers, i thought i'd share something that captured the essence of what i do here. ✨

i've collected hundreds of magazines from jensen's soap years, but there are just as many issues that i haven't found yet. some i know nothing about. some i have full photos/transcripts for.

while using the wayback machine, i saw a transcript for an article from nbc soaps in depth that i didn't have in my collection. these fan archives are a bit like playing a game of telephone through the years, so the citations can be incorrect. to verify the name and date, i found an old ebay listing for this issue on worthpoint. luckily, the listing included the table of contents, which verified the info.

but still, i wasn't able to find a copy of this magazine. the nbc branch of soaps in depth was only in print from jan. 97 to dec. 99, so there aren't that many out there on the resale market. eventually, i reached out to the art director, and miraculously he responded. i can't say enough about this man's generosity, because he offered to send me dozens of photos from his personal collection.

and that's how i finally got this image below! i still hope to buy the actual issue one day so i can share high-quality scans. but until then, having this photo, taken by the man who designed the page layout himself, is a big fucking treat.

Anonymous asked:

how would Jensen characters react if you told them that you faked it?

lmfaooo I think it would largely depend on the reason why you faked it during sex, but with pretty much all Jackles characters, you can expect a progression of three main reactions.

HEADCANON: If you told him you "faked it"...

Between Dean Winchester, Beau Arlen, Soldier Boy (Ben), Mark Meachum and Russell Shaw.

First, there'd be a healthy amount of...

And another one. I'm a happy fan right now! 🥰

The lucky bystanders. I'm so jealous. Lol 🥰🥰

At least he's in the same country as you (yes I know Canada is huge 😂). I could sing

"My bonnie is over the ocean, my bonnie is over the sea, my bonnie is over the ocean, oh bring back my bonnie to me" 😂

All I know is that Jensen most likely had a conversation with Kripke where he asked him to focus the promotion on the J2 reunion (although Kripke was probably going to do it anyway). Why? Well, it's obvious, he doesn't want the kind of noise that side of the fandom makes. The fandom that does nothing but sexualize him in frankly humiliating ways, that only talks about him in relation to a fetish, that takes everything he says and does and twists it in unimaginable ways, etc. You only have to see the disgusting comments about mpreg they posted in the chat room to realize that no actor in their right mind wants those kinds of people on the project that's giving them everything. Of course, I'm not celebrating yet, Mishit is still there, and we still have to see what really happens in those few scenes, but now I have a better understanding of what's going on.

Well, I doubt that Jensen has that kind of influence on Kripke and tptb to demand a J2 focused s 5 promo. Jared only has a minor one episode guest stint and Jensen isn't one of the stars which carried the show since s 1 either. The s 3 promo with Jensen front and center was utterly disrespectful to the ensemble cast which made the show what it is.

The announcement that Jared would finally join TB after Kripke wanted him for so long, made waves in media, so of course Kripke decided to include Jared in the teaser trailer to ensure that media will pick it up and now everybody's talking about the J2 reunion.

We'll see how willing Jared is to be included in the PR circus for s 5. With it premiering early April, I guess we'll get a promo tour somewhere in March? Depending on the (pre) production schedule if Jared's Doctor show gets greenlit (network shows usually shoot from June to April) he could be too busy. We'll see. But even as a Jared stan I think he doesn't have any business to be included in the promo.

I’m like 99.5% sure that the exploding goo on screen with Jared is Misha's character, based on pretty much everything Jared or Misha has said about their appearances episode. I’m thinking all of our predictions are right there.

I hope you’re correct and MC's character is blown up like immediately. And it does look like we get at least one scene with J2 in it without him. Of course with cutting and editing anything could technically be possible in the actual episode. And I need it to be Soldier Boy or Jared's character who does blows his character up.

I was super pissed that Kripke caved and let MC join this season, but the fact that he didn’t bother to include him in the first trailer, the most anticipated one for the season, but did include what is most likely his character exploding tells me he knows what’s up. Also, using Renegade? This first trailer was definitely a big nod to the SPN fans, and from a season before MC skid-marked up the show.

So, J2 on screen together in April or May, maybe Jared’s Doc show will actually start up this fall, and his Christmas movie (with full dimples on display) in November/Devember next year. Jared fans are looking to get (barring any unforeseen hang-ups) 2 to 3 big, delicious, project based meals next year. I’m so excited.

I was so pissed that Kripke caved. My excitement for s 5 TB flew out of the window. But now I'm totally hyped up again (not only for the J2 reunion, I'm a TB fan since day 1). And I was pretty surprised that Kripke included Jared in the trailer (hence his minor one ep guest starring) but I guess he knows how to feed his audience. And yes, with the song choice and including Jared, it was a big nod to the show which birthed his career.

As long as I get J2 without the leech on screen and the asshole being killed off immidiately, I'm good.

With what Misha said in the con I’m convinced that was him now and he only started spoiling things when he realised it was his only scene in the show. The man has an ego the side of Donald Trump. He probably got a couple of scenes cut and started to be a bitch about it.

Misha calling the CW 'homophobic', and giving the hellers the usual queerbaiting (that they refuse to acknowledge):

Normal folks see right through him

Of course there's no actual video of this moment, but this is from someone who was allegedly there:

Ah yes the CW network that is so homophobic they *checks notes* allowed God to be canonically bi-sexual in the same show Misha was in…

Such a homophobic network.

I just got to the Siren episode again and the fact people STILL believe this is a manifestation of Dean being ‘bi’ shows how little people watch the show. The siren even says Dean wanted a little brother to look up to him and that’s why it was a man. Did the Hellers black out at thy moment? Also Dean gets angry at Sam for fucking Cara and calls him a monster fucker when he believes she’s a siren. A sure indication he just doesn’t swing that way even if Cas was a woman.

If the siren makes Dean bi, then it also makes Wincest explicitly canon from Dean's side at least. I don't want hear an "ew" about that from anyone who uses the siren as proof. Because it is said a billion times that he's being a better baby brother.

Or, they could just watch the show and realise that there wasn't any sexual anything involved. Dean is just unhealthily insane about Sam because his whole life has been about protecting him and he'd lost control over Sam so lost part of his own identity. All of which is made clear in the episode (and generally for 15 years)

And it's amazing how many people don't realise the basic fact that Dean wasn't a monster fucker. Simple as that.

He was very speciesist(?) about only being with human women. Any time he wasn't, it was because he was tricked, like the Amazon. Anna was born human. Being a hunter is so engrained in Dean he's never going be what hellers want him to be, for so many reasons.

If the siren makes Dean bi, then it also makes Wincest explicitly canon from Dean's side THIS is exactly it.

Hellers love to scream that GUY SIREN MAKES DEAN BIIIIIIII, without realizing or FAILING to realize or PRETENDING that IF Dean is 'bi', then he's bi FOR SAM. Castiel isn't IN the episode, nor is he mentioned, so HE has no reason to be included in the statement DEAN'S GUY SIREN MAKES HIM BI.

“this fic portrays problematic ship” then don’t read it

“this fic romanticizes bad things” then don’t read it

“this fic makes me uncomfortable and angry” then don’t read it

“this fic about my favorite fictional character goes against everything the character believes in in canon” then don’t read it

all of the problems you have with somebody else’s fanfic can be very easily solved by the act of Not Reading It

scroll past a fic if it’s something you don’t like, filter out tags about things you don’t want to see

no one forces you to read a fic that upsets you. also you can stop reading any fic at any time you want.

harassing real people over fiction will not make you morally superior. it just makes you a bully
