Waffle (noun) and waffle (verb) are etymologically unrelated. In the brief moment before I looked it up I had a great folk etymology where waffle (verb) had descended from the action of flipping a waffle iron. Sadly, they're just different words.
i have an even worse one. these three words are etymologically unrelated:
- scale (to climb)
- scale (device for measuring weight)
- scale (piece of keratin on the skin of a fish or reptile)
