Random thought, but what if Iroh didn't find Lu Ten in the Spirit World, because Lu Ten had never wanted to be found by him.

Iroh might've idolised his son after his death and erased his flaws from his mind, but think about it. Lu Ten was raised on Fire Nation propaganda, lived and died by it. How would he possibly react to his father not only giving up on the siege, their joint operation, and never even avenging his death, but also betraying their nation... betraying his own son?

Lu Ten would prolly react in a similar way Zuko did with Iroh's suggestions and advice before Aang's reawakening. Hell, I can even see him outright disgusted by his father's sudden weakness.

I am so very serious when I say that minors should have a legal and easily reinforceable right to say "I don't want to live with my parents (or other adult caretakers)/I don't want to be around that person/I don't want to go to that place" and actually get their wish accommodated. So much childhood trauma could be avoided or ended if children actually had the right to leave the situation or the person hurting them.

constantly making airy offhand comments to my preferred younger son about how he’s next in line for the throne after his brother but he still hasn’t killed my detested firstborn for me. kids these days have no fucking initiative.

I keep sending them off on “boar hunts” together and wouldn’t you know? they keep coming back after with big smiles and boar heads and the unmistakable stench of brotherly camaraderie. what sick sad days are these!
