Fun Trope Combos Part VI

I used a random number generator to combine some fictional tropes from my big tropes list. Let’s see if you get inspired by them!

  1. Mystery x Fake family
  2. Getting together x Sharing a bed
  3. Reunion x Everyone is gay
  4. Only one bed x Enemies to friends to lover
  5. Arranged marriage x Miscommunication
  6. Domestic fluff x Power of friendship
  7. Sharing a bed x Whump
  8. Joining the villain x A+ parenting (and it's not sarcastic)
  9. Reunion x OT3
  10. Smut x Fluffiest fluff

Ok, who wants to read/write a story about enemies turned friends turned lovers and there is only one bed?

Huge fan of when a character only remembers one vague thing from their past. It can be due to amnesia or just being taken from that life at a young age, but they don’t get the freedom of a perfectly blank slate or enough memories to properly identify with what has been lost. There’s only the melody of an old song, a smiling face, a stuffed animal. It’s not enough to find again, but it is enough to haunt them.

Living Weapon whumpee who treats the caretaker like theyre a new handler.

  • Expecting a punishment for everything they believe they've done wrong and getting really confused when there's none of it.
  • "Yes, sir/ma'am.", "I'm sorry, sir/ma'am."
  • Straightening their posture whenever caretaker sounds angry.
  • Treating every small suggestion and off handed comment caretaker makes as an order. "It's quite dirty in here." becomes "Clean up this mess, now."
  • Getting confused and scared at the lack of established rules and punishments. Every move could be the wrong one. Every action they make risks being hurt. They constantly wait for the other shoe to drop.
  • Proudly displaying their skill to their caretaker (by killing/harming someone?) only for caretaker to be horrified by what they've done.

"came back wrong" what about Came Back Afraid. You used to be brave. Too brave maybe, defying the odds at every turn, a fighter, cocky, playing with fire, first to throw yourself at the enemy. Until one day it all caught up to you. You came back, somehow, but now you know all too intimately how it feels to lose, to die, to be destroyed. Now you flinch and freeze and cower at the slightest provocation. Who even are you now if you can't be brave? The grave may have let you go, but the mortal fear still grips you tighter than ever.

i don't want to look "hot" i want to look alluring, haunting, bewitching. i want to look like the kind of person hozier would write a song about.

Welp. Google's AI horseshit has arrived. And I'm not complying. They can pry my ID out of my cold dead hands. I will simply go elsewhere. Remember folks, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR IDs. Do not comply. Resist, fight it, use other browsers or sources beyond youtube and google controlled services. Call them. Email them. Make noise. Fight back.

I've been using Google as my main mail service since 2006, and every single account or service I've ever signed up for was made with that address. For a long time I thought it'd be impossible to divorce myself from Google.

It took less than 5 minutes to switch to a ProtonMail account, less than 2 hours to download and/or offload every byte of data from my Google account, and less than 3 days to change every single account or service I've ever signed up for to the new address.

As of today, the only single one I have that's still tied to it is YouTube. It's the only thing I'd lose access to if I deleted my Google acount entirely.

They really, really want you to believe that it's a hassle to switch to a different service. But it's not. Most websites and/or services allow you to change the email address associated with it.

I've been using Google for almost 2 decades and it only took a few days to move everything. It's not a painful sacrifice; it's an easy change that, frankly, has absolutely been worth it.

If you like watching youtube videos and aren't tied specifically to a youtube account, I recommend invidio.us.

It has its issues periodically, because it basically lets you watch youtube videos without actually going through youtube. But on the plus side, it lets you watch youtube videos without going through youtube, so any and all issues are still less than youtube would cause, imo.

favourite rpg trope is the merchants in incredibly hostile environments. we are at the evil curse mountain and youre just selling me items normal style

RIP Joann, now what?

I wanted to make a post I could copy and paste and or link when I see folks asking where to buy fabrics when Joann is gone. I sew a lot, generally between 100-200 items a year and I don't do it on a big budget. Stores are not in a particular order.

Notions:

Wawak.com - start here, mostly stay here. Wawak is a supplier for professional sewing businesses and have the prices that show it. I will not pay for gutermann Mara 100 anywhere else. I buy buttons, tools, thread, and most elastic here.

Stitch Love Studio - this is where I buy lingerie supplies https://www.etsy.com/shop/StitchLoveStudio?ref=yr_purchases

Fabric:

Fabric Mart - this is one where you want to sign up for emails and never buy unless its on sale. They run different sales every day and they rotate. Mostly deadstock fabrics but I buy more from here than anywhere else. Fantastic customer service and if you watch you can get things like $6 wool suiting or $4 cotton jersey. https://fabricmartfabrics.com/

Fabrics-Store - again, buy the sales not the full price. Sign up for the emails but redirect them to a folder because it is TOO MANY. They stock linen or good but not amazing quality. https://www.fabrics-store.com/

Purple Seamstress - This is where I buy my solid cotton lycra jersey. They have other things, but the jersey is what I'm here for. Inexpensive and very good quality. If you ask she will mail you a swatch card for the solids. https://purpleseamstressfabric.com/

LA Finch - deadstock fabrics with a fantastic remnant selection https://lafinchfabrics.myshopify.com/

Califabrics - mix of deadstock and big brands, easy to navigate and always seem to have good denim in stock. https://califabrics.com/

Boho Fabrics - good variety, nice bundles. I have also gotten some really great trims from here. https://www.bohofabrics.com/

Firecracker Fabrics - garment and quilting fabrics, really nice selection and great sale section. I've bought $5 yard quilting cottons here several times. https://www.firecrackerfabrics.com/

Hancock's of Paducah - Quilting fabric and some limited garment fabric. AMAZING sale section. Do not sleep on the sale section. This is my first stop when buying quilting fabrics. Usually the last stop too. Not particularly speedy shipping. https://www.hancocks-paducah.com/

Itokri - This is something a little different. Itokri is an Indian business with incredible traditional fabrics. Shipping to the US is expensive, but the fabric is so inexpensive it evens out. I generally end up paying like $30 for shipping. Beautiful ikat and block prints. https://itokri.com/

Miss Matatabi - this is a little treat. This isn't where you go to save money, but there are so many beautiful things in this shop. Ships from Japan incredibly quickly. https://shop.missmatatabi.com/

Lucky Deluxe - Craft thrift store, always has an incredible selection and fantastic customer service. I need to close the tab fast because I never go to this website without finding something I need. https://www.luckydeluxefabrics.com/

Swanson's - the OG of online craft thrift stores, but I find their website harder to navigate. https://www.swansonsfabrics.com

Honorary Mentions: I haven't shopped at these places yet but I have had them recommended and likely will at some point.

A Thrifty Notion - https://athriftynotion.com/

Creative Closeouts - https://creativecloseoutsfabric.com/ being rebranded to sewsnip.com on March 1 - quilting deadstock

Hawthorne Supply Co. - I just got this rec and I think I need to not look too closely or I'm going to slip with my debit card. https://www.hawthornesupplyco.com/

This is not an exhaustive list of everywhere you can buy fabric, or even a full list of where I shop. There are SO many options out there in the world. You also need to think outside the fabric store box. I thrift men's shirt fabrics for quilts and sheets for backing fabric. I don't do a ton of in person thrifting and my local stores don't get a lot of craft materials but every thrift store is its own universe and reflects the community it is in. Go out and find something cool.

Oh and final note: Don't shop at Hobby Lobby.

japanese game dev in the 90s: hey dude can you make some music for our game about anime girls getting fucked sloppy style

guy who's about to push the PC-98 sound card to its absolute limit and create the most heartachingly beautiful music you've ever heard: Yeah okay

in a similar vein:

british game dev in the 90's: hey dude can you make some music for our game about a little red cartoon dude in a colorful world who can throw his body parts around

guy who's about to make shigeru miyamoto question whether this guy's music is actually coming out of the snes sound card: yeah okay

American game producer in the 90s: hey we’re making a shitty game where kids can enter to win about $100 worth of prizes, can somebody slap some music together so we can hurry up and grab a few hundred thousand kids’ allowances

Tim Follin about to make the NES sound chip sweat like a hooker in church in August: yeah okay

My friend amd I share this back and forth every couple of months, just so we don't forget it exsists.

And to continue that legend of Tim Follin

What is up with random music just being the slickest shit ever?

The moment i opened these on youtube, this popped up in the related search results and yea i think i got the message

"we need some background music for a shooting game on a niche computer. probably a couple of hundred people will ever play this game at most, so don't worry about it too much"

"okay here's a track that will make you weep tears of nostalgia for your past life in a lost realm thousands of years ago"

Japanese devs: "Hey, we got this cool jets game? Uhhh... You think you can whip up some neat background music so it doesn't get boring?"

The man who's about to make you feel the pride and anguish of the war vet who lived while his brothers died like Gods to save the world: "Yeah, sure, lemme just grab my choir."
