I love that the modern-day tumblr post equivalent of chain emails only requires me to reblog a relatively pleasant image instead of forward an email to a bunch of my friends and family members to quell my raging anxiety.

It’s a win win. I get a bit of hope, you get a cute birb photo

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

👻IT IS THE 👻
🎃 MONTH 🎃

And to get into the spirit I'm gonna post a work in progress character I've been working on for probably way too long but not long enough cuz they ain't finished hehe.

THIS IS BYTE, and yes they are ment to be nightmare before Christmas inspired because I got reobsesed with the fan universe made by @crystallizedtwilight and fell into a rabbit hole that is chronic character design/creation disorder, ah yes, the blight of adhd artists.

To give a run down, yes, she LOOKS like a creepy scarecrow because that's what she is DRESSED as. Yeah, this is a HUMAN, LIVE HUMAN. one that is just as Halloween crazed as the folks of Halloween town, always the thrill of being scared and scaring others. Now you may be wondering "HOW IS THIS A HUMAN, SHE HAS BUTTONS AND STITCHES ON HER FACE AND HER NECK CLEARLY ISN'T CONNECTED WITH THE EXCESS FABRIC AND FEATHERS STICKING OUT" and I will say it is very simple, latex, glue, costuming and make up. You can make pretty convincing details if you just apply the right amount of effort and get freaky with it. Now, the weird stance you see isn't just a scare act, this is a genuine tilt of the head curiosity and playfulness, think like wybie from Coraline. She is also extremely quiet, even for the middle of fall with Crunchy leaves. All the strange habits are to make her autistic presenting, with her sometimes not even meaning to scare people with how she acts at times so when Halloween comes around she doesn't feel like this weird outcast, she feels more included in the fun. But yeah I'm still working on her, HAPPY SPOOKY MONTH

Hi guys is I was trying to make a pokemon for a community challenge that youtuber @truegreen7 had going for Psudo legendary pokemon. I unfortunately wasn't able to get it done in time to submit for the video due to IRL events but I figured I'd keep working on it and show what I currently got and let you all see

The concept I went for was a tarasque, leaning more towards the dragon aspect of it but trying my best to include the lion features and abnormal parts that a classic French tarasque is described with, along with putting some alligator snapping turtle aspects in. I'll reblog the final product but till then leave comments and critiques and have a great day

I genuinely feel like I’m going insane sometimes

Some more of my thoughts and a sketch page of myself because I love me

OH MY GOSH

FINALLY, FINALLY SOMEONE DID IT. I'm not native American but is study the ever living SHIT out of cultures and I hate how much people will just pull shit out of their ass without doing proper research for a people's when designing a character meant to be from a specific culture. Stereotyped designs with no thought just make thinks so much worse for proper representation in modern-day media because people keep making Native American characters the same, always pulling from old images as if they never changed when the culture and its people have change for several years. Only time you see "traditional clothing" is for ritual, regalia or celebration depending on not only the tribe but also the actual location because some places don't do it as often. Then you get the problem of people taking creature's from Native American folk lore and making it into something that it isn't, like a Wendigo getting turned into weird deer demons when it's a spirit with heavy ties and matters to the Algonquian people very seriously. When making characters from specific cultural backgrounds, you need to take the time and energy to properly understand not only the practices of the culture but also it's people because they ARE REAL LIVING PEOPLE. If you have the resources and time actually talking with people who are within that culture and taking it seriously not only results in improving your characters quality but also your understanding. Get out there, go learn, go see, go and TRY to understand something because if you can learn it and apply it you can help others learn that too

yaay I finally did another thing in Blender only took a few weeks

I also switched to a new PC partway through this and had to figure out all the issues that came with that. (I downloaded the newest Blender version since I was redownloading it anyways. Did you know you have to have the version of Blender you were previously using installed to open those files on the new version without it crashing? Because I didn't)

Anyways I think this guy is neat, the guy in question being Hans who belongs to @shinyzango

a 3D model?? aaaa thank you so much he looks so good! ;O;

Holly shoot!!!!

This is awesome!!!!

Where's the African mythology?

I know I have close to zero Tumblr fame, which I normally appreciate, but I would love it if this made it into the world and got fully backed. You can even pledge to get the digital content and send a real copy to a school in Africa or to a HBCU or community library of your choosing!

Misusing my blog again so more people can see this then

“good job disney” my ass, good job CHRIS SANDERS

Let’s not credit just Chris Sanders for this. This happened because they cast actual Hawaiian Actors like Tia Carrere and Jason Scott Lee to play Hawaiian characters, and allowed the actors to have input into writing the characters’ lines.

This sort of authenticity comes from accuracy and authenticity in casting choices. The fact that Chris Sanders as direct/writer facilitated that does not mean he gets credit for the actors’ experience.

This is why diversity and representation in media matters.

Dude as a hawaiian, this is like straight up what my life as a kid was. My mom worked at those fakey luaus full time to pay rent. My mom is someone who is absolutely passionate and proud about being a hawaiian, living and teaching the ways our ancestors lived and taught. See, we Hawaiians, we live by the way of aloha. And not by the way of “hello” “goodbye”, let me educate you. As Pono Shim, CEO and President of Enterprise Honolulu, the Oahu Economic Development Board, states absolutely perfectly “aloha is to be in the presence of life, to share the essence of one’s being with openness, honesty, and humility. It is a way of being, a way of behaving, a way of life. It is a commitment to accepting others and giving dignity to who they are and what they have to offer.” Aloha is more than hello and goodbye. Think of aloha as an abbreviation. Akahai: meaning kindness Lokahi: meaning unity Olu’Olu’: meaning agreeableness Ha’aha’a: meaning humility Ahonui: meaning patience This is something we all need to live by, seriously, we all should

the dropped sub-plot was that lilo hated tourists, which is why she goes around taking pictures of them like they were attractions instead of people; like how they took photos of locals

similarly there was a deleted scene where she scares tourists off of a beach by sounding a false tsunami siren to watch them run screaming deeper in the lore that kid thats a prick to her, mertyle, is the daughter of the person who runs the megamart and crushed a lot of other local businesses- when they have to do a hula to tell a story mertyle actually uses it to describe the low prices, where lilo does a hula about a traditional creation myth that was important to her mother. you may notice both lilo and nani are on first name basis with both the coffee shop owner and the fruitseller, there is big disparity between the locals and foreign interest businesses relegating them to just be tourist industry

friendly reminder that lilo & stitch is indisputably the best disney film

And the live action shits on it’s name

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.

Yee yee!!! You got it right on the nose!

Bounce light is something I didn't cover but I adore it!

Gotta work on my bounce light 💪

Yay for local color and color relativity! I love seeing artists continuing to share and learn from each other!

Also, if your colors look too flat/muddy when you use a single color layer filter, use a gradient map layer instead and THEN change the mode of the layer. Adjust the gradient map to have slightly different colors for your shadows, mids, and lights until you're happier with it and things aren't as flat/muddy!

This is just a quick and dirty example, but it gets the point across.

Color balancing is what I usually call it, you have an over lay of which all the colors share at least a tint with the over. Night time gets color balanced into colder tones, strong colored light does the same. But yeah Color balancing is what I think it is and usually goes hand in hand with color theory. Color balancing is more or less a tool to fast trace the process of knowing the general area of color you need to make your character in the kind of lighting you're going for but tweaking and adjusting by hand will most likely be necessary in order to insure no one shares colors that they wouldn't be sharing. I've only ever used color balancing to insure a character's color scheme is homogeneous but it's commonly used for this as well.
