Panel 1: A close-up of David. His mouth is smiling, but his downcast eyes feel hollow. He says, "And you know… Now that you’ve got your Master's degree..."
Panel 2: David looks up at the viewer/Daniel with the same, dead-eyed smile. He continues, "......maybe you can finally meet a nice girl, too."
Panel 3: Daniel looks away with a troubled expression. Off-panel, David finishes, "Don’t you think it’s about time you settled down and gave your mom some grandkids? She could use that happiness right about now."
Panel 4: David's public-facing smile has returned to his face. He puts a hand around Jessica's waist as they walk away towards Seattle's waterfront. He asks her, "Shall we?"
Jessica turns to wave at Daniel and says in parting, "Bye, Daniel! Nice to finally meet you!"
Daniel, however, doesn't see this, because he's already turned to leave and his back is to them. The narration reads, "I really fooled myself into thinking..."
I have still yet to ride the ferris wheel at Seattle's waterfront. Maybe I will see if Jessica wants to go. David's not invited
