I’m doing my best today to bring some of that New Orleans Mardi Gras energy to our little corner of Delaware, but I’m afraid that there’s nothing quite like the real thing. Ah, well. At least I’ll always have King Cake.
This undated postcard of the
Vieux Carré (or “Old Square”) section of New Orleans’s French Quarter neighborhood was published by New Orleans resident Aaron Hirschwitz
(ca. 1872 - after 1940), who operated a novelties and souvenir shop on Canal Street between 1911 and 1951.
This postcard is part of the Hagley Library’s collection of
Postcards of motels, roadside attractions, restaurants, etc. in the United States (Accession 2007.214). To view more material from this collection online now, click here to visit its page in our Digital Archive.
Nothing turns me into a regressive old geezer like king cake. I’m like kids these days, all they know is fruit filling and cinnamon and 4 inches of whipped cream cheese icing! Back in my day a king cake was plain brioche with colored sugar on top and thats it! And we were excited to eat it!
listen i may take 4 weeks to write a 3k word chapter, and i may take 45 minutes to decide whether i should use “laugh” or “chuckle”, but at least i don’t use ai and whatever you’re getting is pure chaos from a human brain
