maybe i like it when a female character is deeply flawed and responsible for countless deaths and so on and so forth. more female characters should be deeply flawed and responsible for countless deaths
Teacher literally calls Canaan house the Tower in book 1.
Descriptions of Canaan House in GTN start by referring to it having multiple towers, but rapidly start referring only to its central tower, and by the end and in HTN Canaan House is simply referred to as a tower...
Chapter 27 if GTN is in no way ominous:
The things they’ve shown us would be powerful—would bespeak impossible depth of necromantic ability—if they were replicable. These experiments all demand a continuous flow of thanergy. They’ve hidden that source somewhere in the facility, and that’s the true prize.”
“Ah. Your secret door theory. Very Ninth.”
She bristled. “It’s a simple understanding of area and space. Including the facility, we’ve got access to maybe thirty percent of this tower. That’s what’s called hard evidence, Warden. Your megatheorem is based on supposition and your so-called ‘instinct.’"
Palamedes was right, but was Harrow wrong...
The gradual change in how it's referred to is so juicy...
And man, with my theory about steles and obelisks using dead languages and blood to command ghosts (specifically devils/the ten billion) to warp time as an alternative to FTL ("less to do with travel than it is with transmission") and the "Tower of Babel" motif that could sort of come with that, I've also recently realized, both stele and obelisk are just more precise words for types of pillars, and what is a pillar but a sort of small tower... Just tying all of the pieces together.
PLUS Alecto asks "where did you put them?" and Varun says "there is a hole at the bottom of their tower", but, well, Teacher said...
“Down there resides the sum of all necromantic transgression,” she said, in the singsong way of a child repeating a poem. “The unperceivable howl of ten thousand million unfed ghosts who will hear each echoed footstep as defilement. They would not even be satisfied if they tore you apart. The space beyond that door is profoundly haunted in ways I cannot say, and by means you won’t understand; and you may die by violence, or you may simply lose your soul.”
And ten thousand million sure is another way of saying ten billion!
So if Varun implies these things are coming from the bottom of The Tower and Teacher says they were put down beneath Canaan, WELL... That math sure checks out, doesn't it!
And we've been rather Chekov's gunned for a very specific unexplored space in Canaan House:
“I’m not trained for this. I think our chances [of summoning Nonius] are very small. I think we’ve got a similar chance of Magnus tripping over the secret entrance to the lost chambers of the Emperor Undying. Actually, that’s significantly less unlikely, as I’ve come to believe they run sidelong to the facility rather than—never mind."
I love that every Tumblr post about the alectopause sounds like:
First of all I respect Tamsyn Muir so much and she should take as much time as she needs to produce a high quality book without feeling rushed
Second of all for every week we go without an update I'm killing another hostage
Since the revision is axing everything "problematic" by censorship law standards, my biggest fear is that the revised version will get more popular than the original/be the basis for an adaptation and we're gonna get the untamed treatment where a bunch of people who've only interacted with the defanged and consumable version of the series flood in and get really annoying and have awful takes. Goodnight
Just imagined someone reading the revised svsss and then calling og svsss fans weirdos for shipping a student and teacher. Terrifying possibility
This is why it's our solemn duty as a fandom to introduce all new people to skinzun so that the rest of the community and their kinks seems perfectly normal in comparison.

I have got to lez out more.
You have got to lez out more.
At the end of everything, if it was going to be you and me, layered over each other as we always were…Melted steel. Mingled blood. Harrowhark-and-Gideon, Gideon-and-Harrowhark at last.
wanted to try making lenticular prints for my art events this month (vid)! so i settled for one of my favorite griddlehark quotes :')
to me the murderbot books and the tv show are still two separate things (which is good - the tv show is an adaptation, it doesn't have to recreate the books exactly nor should it) but I'm getting a kick out of how being able to SEE SecUnit's face recontextualizes things.
like. in the books the PresAux crew treats SecUnit like a person because they are A) nice in general and B) ethical
in the show the PresAux crew is still A) nice in general and B) ethical, but they're also C) fairly certain their SecUnit is a person because every time they talk to it directly it looks like it's going to throw up
“start your free trial now” what if i told u i am already experiencing trials. and the cost is more than i can bear
You ever think about how it’s hinted a bit that Gideon was probably un-killable? She survived nerve gas when she was a baby. She survived poisoning, losing heat in her cell and finally, getting siphoned by Harrow. Who knows what else she survived.
Like how fucked up is it that Harrow fell in love with an un-killable woman and somehow managed to find herself clinging to her dead body anyhow. It’s fucked up. I hate it here.
