083 My Kind of Town
Radiant Black and the Massive-Verse are hitting C2E2 and we're throwing a party!
Hey everyone!
Kyle here, coming to you from LA, in the midst of packing to leave in the morning for C2E2 in Chicago.
We’ve had a lot of things go down since our last newsletter, I’m going to touch on a few of them today.
But first up— my favorite show of the year, back in my hometown of Chicago, C2E2.
Ryan Parrott and I are tabling at the show (C7), along with Kelly McMahon (E01), but we’ll also be joined at the show by Circle Guy News icons Ryan, Bill and TJ, plus Radiant Black’s own Joe Clark, C.O.W.L.’s Alec Siegel and Rod Reis, and others.
If you’re coming to the show, or you’re just a Chicago local, you’ve got a bunch of chances to come see us! Here’s where I’ll be for this weekend:
On the booth front, we’ll have tons of goodies— sales on TPBs, Radiant Black 1:25 foil variant covers, prints, the whole nine yards.
For anyone who won’t be able to attend but might be interested in some signed items, you can tune into our WhatNot sale on Friday at 4:30PM CT. Here’s the link!
Then, on Saturday at 2:45PM CT in room S402-A, you’ll want to make sure you’re in the room for our Radiant Black, Massive-Verse and More panel featuring myself, Ryan Parrott and Joe Clark. We’re going to have a first look at some upcoming issues of Radiant Black and Rogue Sun as well as Inferno Girl Red, and maybe even a sneak peak listen to the audiobook. Oh, and we may or may not be making a really big announcement.
Saturday night, we’re throwing a meet-up!
Come join us on Saturday at 7:30PM to hang with Massive-Verse creators, friends, fans and comics folks alike. We’ll be posted up at The Staley, formerly Krull’s, which is a fantastic sports bar owned by our friend Israel Idonije of ATHLiTA Comics and formerly, defensive end for the Chicago Bears.
We’re working on some fun things for the night—join us to celebrate comics, Chicago and superheroes!
Radiant Black #32 Livestream
In case you missed it, the team took a deep dive look at Radiant Black #32 last week, which we’ve archived right here on the Massive-Verse youtube.
Radiant Black: The Audiobook
Here’s a photo of Rider Strong during our second recording session for the upcoming audiobook. We got through most of his scenes in volume one, but have been saving the scenes featuring Nathan and Marshall to record jointly with Will. Which we’ll be doing in the coming weeks!
Rogue Sun #26
Next week, Rogue Sun #26 hits stands and we’ve got a fun one for you. Featuring our first proper Massive-Verse crossover— don’t worry, you don’t have to read both parts if you don’t want— the multi-city adventure kicks off here.
Oh, and for a different type of look, check out our new promo video featuring Johnny Yong Bosch (Power Rangers, Devil May Cry)!
Radiant Black #33
And two weeks after Rogue Sun #26, on April 30th, you can pick up Radiant Black #33 where you’ll get a further look at a couple big parts of Marshall’s life, including how he gets involved with a werewolf vampire.
And once again, we’re joined by the awesome Will Friedle (Boy Meets World, Batman Beyond) for a preview of the issue!
The Reel World
This week, some of my friends and I made it out to the Academy Museum for a screening of the Bong Joon Ho masterpiece, Memories of Murder.
It’s a bold, wonderful, dark film that has genuine humor and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you experienece the ineptitude and systemic problems that made for solving a string of over 14 serial murders impossible for almost thirty years.
Here are the different ways you can watch the film.

And anyone who’s seen the film and is looking for more, here’s a great article on the Criterion Channel’s site.

See you soon, Chicago!

Hope you and the rest of the MV gang have fun at C2E2 this year. Very excited to hear about what kind of exciting news you guys have planned.
As for the question posited in the "Reel World" section of the newsletter, I recently saw Princess Mononoke for the first time when it re-released in IMAX and boy howdy, that was a damn great movie.
(P.S. I also hope the Reel World becomes a reoccuring section of the newsletter, as I'm always down for more movie recommendations).
Woo! Can’t wait to meet you all this weekend! I’ll be spending way too much all weekend I’m sure.
