Another serious one.

I think that in a pretty important way, my blend of asexual-vs-kinky exists in the context of the broader mandated transfem sexuality. Or, mm. I think there is a kind of mandated 'transfem performance of sexuality' that is all but required for social legibility at basically all levels, right? So I wanna talk about that.

First, to look at the raw data. The experiences of those around me that add up and point to it. As I understand it, like. This is why so many transfems make friends with each other by flirting, with hookups, at kink parties and in kink spaces. This is why sex is first base and talking is third base. This is why so many transfems feel compelled to continue the performance of sexuality. This is why transfems drop off the map when they burn out and stop being able to perform. This is why so many social sites are based in kink and kink adjacent ideas. This is the impact of sexualization upon us.

Second, to look at what generates this. I admit that I don't fully understand this phenomenon. How sexuality emerges from transmisogyny is complicated, especially in how it relates to disposability and to the public-private paradigm and the family. I think there's a kind of 'the transmisogynized as disposable but exploitable'. I think the obligate performance of sexuality is a consequence of being transmisogynized. Many of us from a young age are sexualized. It's beaten into us. Our social role in our culture is as well. As we come to understand what we are, it's ingrained in our identities. Part of how we are rendered ideal victims. We're shown that's what's expected of us. Of course it never stops being expected.

Third, to look at what must be done. Of course we must remember that sex isn't real, and thus, any attempts to 'expunge the sexual' will be doomed to failure. I think that most impulses towards correcting this problem tend towards the sex negative and anti-kink in that way. Personally, I think kink is cool as hell, and am generally inclined towards continuing to explore and engage with it, and I expect others are as well. I think there's also something to be said about how with all of this, the line between sex and not-sex is drawn here to hurt us. Our performance of sexuality is required, but used to disqualify us. Thus, any attempts at solutions must not simply be further sanitization. Treat the cause not the symptoms, so you must first understand the cause. But we can alleviate the symptoms.

So, like, go text someone that you normally only talk about kink with to let them know you care about them outside that, okay? Look at which of your friendships and which of your spaces are contingent upon the sexuality of the members. Look at how this grinds against you. Look at how this grinds against your friends. Look at how this performance takes energy and how it is work. Look at the parts of you that it starves. And please take a second to take a break, and to let others rest as well, while still giving them room to exist. Find a way. I don't have real solutions, but I want there to be room to talk and to think.
