  • Played spades Blood tourney; made it to the finals

Still so very very tired. It seems worse this week. Maybe it’s just getting back into the school routine.

Our Next Big Eye on the Cosmos is Complete!

Our Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is now fully assembled! Once it passes final tests, it will move to our Kennedy Space Center in Florida for launch preparations this summer. Roman is slated to launch by May 2027, but the team is on track for launch as early as fall 2026.

NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope in the largest clean room at the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

The observatory is named after Dr. Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer who made cosmic vistas readily accessible to all by paving the way for telescopes based in space. The Roman Space Telescope will build on her legacy by sending back a flood of incredible celestial images and data.

Yatta! for 2026 01 06

  • Went to bed too late, had a hard time going to sleep, had to put the book down to finally sleep. Woke up just after 7
  • Washed and dressed
  • Poked K through their morning
  • Prepped K’s lunch, and then realized they don’t need lunch…
  • Walked K to school with the puppy; played fetch on the way back
  • Breakfasted and internetted
  • Played spades Seas 3s tourney and won
  • Chopped ingredients and mixed seasonings for Moroccan beef and tossed them into the slow cooker
  • Tossed F’s laundry into the washer
  • Played some BG3 with BG
  • Picked up K from school; worked on sit-greet and stay with the puppy
  • Dried /hung to dry F’s laundry
  • Played spades 7-up tourney
  • Went outside to wind some yarn for washing, because it wasn’t too cold, and it wasn’t raining. And I noticed again this bush that really needed some pruning, and since pruning is on my maintenance list, I decided to lop off the most overgrown of the branches. This bush probably needs some more pruning to thin it out, but at least it no longer looks so ungainly.
image
image
  • Wound 10 partial skeins of cotton yarn for washing, while I listened to And Baby makes 2 ½
image
  • Put the trimmed branches into the compost bin
  • ACNH (while continuing to listen to the book)
  • YPP
  • Phone date!
  • Put both kids’ dry clothes away
  • Ate dinner while watching the season 5 finale of Only Murders in the Building
  • Watched the last two episodes of the latest season of Emily in Paris
  • While I finished the baby hat started on Sunday

Jewelry of the Day:

My Mother-out-law gave this to me 5 or 6 years ago. It’s on stretchy cord which is getting a bit stretched out and brittle. I’ll probably move these beads to memory wire.

Felt weary all day. Had some of those awful foot cramps that are probably from the abilify, even though I haven’t taken any for a month. Got to sleep after midnight, really body?

Yatta! for 2026 01 05

Went to bed way too late last night, and probably didn’t sleep until midnight. :/ I slept until 7, and was only my ‘usual’ tired. WTAF.

  • Washed and dressed
  • Poked at K re taking meds
  • Timed kids through morning
  • Prepared K’s lunch
  • Walked K to school with the puppy, and back home
  • Breakfasted and internetted
  • Started a rewatch of KPDH
  • Played spades reg no BN tourney and won
  • Chopped ingredients and thawed meat for Presidential Chili, and tossed them into the slow cooker (note: I need more wine vinegar)
  • Played spades Blood tourney (partner misplayed)
  • Lunched (pancakes and sausages!)
  • Watched a couple of episodes of Emily in Paris, while I
  • Finished darning a sock; I’m getting better and faster
image
  • From the list: I reset the weird corner cabinet, which houses the roasting pan I use maybe 4 times a year, the vases, the overflow water bottles, the kids’ lunch containers, the milk maker, and the big pitcher that I usually use for lemonade. Some of the vases and ALL of the water bottles had escaped containment, so I found boxes to contain them and found a decent arrangement that allowed me to get easily to the things used most often
image
image
image
image
  • Baked 4 dozen chocolate cookies for OWheeOs
  • Sewed up a hole in Pooch (GB’s childhood plushie, that the kids also use as a comfort object sometimes). I considered undoing all the mending in that area and resewing, but decided against it.
image
image
  • Made filling for the OWheeOs, and put the cookies together
  • Family night, where we finally settled on watching Speed, because F’s original choice of the Hunger Games is problematic for me.
  • ACNH, finally caught up
  • Took the puppy out for a walk and fetch, with GB; we were derailed about 15 minutes in by a strong rain
  • YPP
  • Rabbithole of Nintendo stuff

Rainy, sometime intensely so, didn’t have joint pain until I walked with puppy in the evening, hit the tired wall in the afternoon.

I always hated the term “New Year’s Resolution,” especially the way we think of it here. And the word “goal” isn’t quite what I want this year either. Not being able to fulfill a resolution or a goal is often perceived as failure. I don’t really think that I want to set myself up for failure if I can’t achieve a resolution or a goal. Proposal seems to fit the bill, I think. To me, if a proposal doesn’t work out, or can’t be sustained, well, it happens.

Anyway, in 2026, I propose to:

Wear jewelry more: I have a lot of jewelry, and when I went out, I tended to wear jewelry. I don’t go out much now, so I don’t usually put on any jewelry. I have a LOT of jewelry, and it should be worn! And maybe it will help my mood at home. At the least, I need to find silver or gold post studs to wear as everyday in the ear piercings currently unoccupied.

Continue to make things frequently: I’m not sure if I’ve been less depressed because I’ve been able to make things because my brain is working better, or if I’m able to make things because I’m less depressed because my brain is working better. Whatever. I’ve made more things this year since I got medicated for the CFS, in part because my brain is working better. I was even able to finish some small needlepoint and cross stitch projects, which I could not do last year.

Redeem gift cards: I started to do this a few years ago. I redeemed some, but not all. It’s time to get things before the companies won’t honor the cards.

Respond to others’ posts more often: I don’t often have much to comment, except maybe “me too!” which is why I kinda like the ‘like’ button on tumblr, an “I read your post” indicator when I don’t have a comment. Or sometimes, I just don’t have the spoons, and I mean to come back later and that never happens.

Post to DW more: (I expound on this in length over on my DW blog)

Finish 26 craft projects in '26: This is largely directed toward finishing my pile of WIPs; I know that I have so many things to finish! Knitting baby hats and mending do NOT count.
