Also I’m not calling El, Jane….

If you want to that’s fine. However, why be mad when everyone calls her El? She never expressed distaste for being referred to as El or Eleven.

The season 3 scene with Billy is not talked about enough. Billy is like “sorry I didn’t quite catch your name.” And then she turns her head and gives a cold line “El.”

Like that name is something she reclaimed. It’s also why Dustin yelled out ELEVEN instead of Jane when she’s faking her death,(and yes she’s fucking alive don’t even argue).

Legally her name is Jane Hopper. But at her core, she is El. Everyone who loves her calls her El/Eleven.

Kali calls her Jane because of her own trauma with the lab number assigned to her. She didn’t reclaim it the same way El did, ( that’s my theory anyways).

"You're treating her like some kind of machine, when she's not a machine, and I don't want her to die looking for the flayed when they've obviously vanished off the face of the Earth. So, can we please just come up with a new plan? because I love her and I can't lose her again!!"

It will never NOT be insane how in that scene Nancy and Max gaslight Mike into thinking he was being controlling and possessive (when in reality what he was talking about didn't have anything to do with that and he was literally just concerned for her safety) AND the Duffers also gaslit the audience into believing Mike was the one in the wrong, only for the series finale to demonstrate that he has always been right... which wasn't even intentional because apparently the Duffers wholeheartedly believe that El dying was the only solution to everyone else's problems so it's more like "Mike HAS always been right but El's life is less valuable than everyone else's so fuck them both" INSANE.

“please don’t do this. please don’t leave me” mike’s total desperation and the way he was really pleading and begging her until the very end, yeah this fucking destroyed me

I love the way Hopper gave Mike an entire speech about how important it is to move on and Mike said fuck it Im NEVER moving on.

Felt her presence in the living world and locked BACK in.

It's literally crazy the fact he can feel her, even when he don't see her. It's partly why I believe in his theory about El survived. Yes, he could be in deep denial. But the fact he always canonically feel her during the entire show give me hope. And with that fact in mind, the idea of the Duffer brothers about El & Mike never see each other again if she is alive is bullshit. Because it is precisely partly due to this ability that they have always found their way back to each other. They are like a single being split in two.

You’re telling me, you sidelined the heart of the group after building him up to be since season 1 as the person who connects these characters together?? You sidelined Mike and El the two leads as almost background characters and gave them the most heartbreaking ending, when they deserved their happiness the most?

No. No…..

Give me a season 5 that focuses on the core group again, this time the heart is missing.

Give me Vecna realizing Mike is El, Will, and Nancy’s weakness.

Give me him using Holly against Mike, so he tries to save them at his house and is taken with her. While Nancy and El arrive to find Karen and Ted again.

Give me Nancy and the Party’s freak out over what happened.

Give me Henry telling Holly he saved Mike but he needs to rest in the bedrooms and not to disturb him or go into the woods.

Give me Holly meeting Max and realizing she needs to wake up Mike to get out of there.

Give me a Mike and Max team up to get out of there.

Give me Max watching Mike and Holly interacting and being like ‘HOLY SHIT SHES A MINI YOU LIKE WHY DO I HAVE TO DEAL WITH 2 OF YOU?!’. While Mike and Holly give her the signature Wheeler unimpressed/judgy looks.

Give me the the group losing their minds and realizing Mike’s plans are always better than what they could come up with because he tries to see the bigger picture. (Maybe finding a book with a bunch of plans and back up plans he’s come up with and they try these to help save the kids)

Give me more Erica Sinclair stepping up and being a leader like Mike because they’re similar in their battle plans. (Maybe her and Mike came up with some of the backup plans together??)

ALSO give me Jonathan having time with his family or even just going off on people for treating him as a spare compared to his brother.

Give me El finding Kali but she refuses that they have to sacrifice themselves because she’s so much more determined to have that happy ending with Mike.

Give me Kali only getting grazed and being there to use her powers to trick people to already think she’s dead so she can get away.

Give me a longer deadlier battle against Vecna.

Give me them saving the pregnant women with Kalis powers hiding them from the government.

Give me Mike hearing their escape plan to leave through the big gate again and be like ‘WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU the military is going to be waiting?! Let’s have El, Kali, and the moms go through one of the other gates and just blow up and close the gate so they think they died in there while we had to leave through the normal gate??’

Give me actual reasons for Jonathan and Nancy to break up if they’re going to, but if your not let them be together because they are way more than trauma bonded.

Give me Mike and El still somehow sensing each other but not as strong because of the block, but giving them a focus because they’re out there looking for each other. (Omg maybe this is how he wakes up and breaks out of Vecnas sleep on him and Holly finds him when it happens)

Give me Max having vision problems as she heals, let her have glasses!

Give me Mike and Holly team up to save the kids but Mike being pissed and berating them for listening to essentially a stranger instead of ‘their best friend since kindergarten’ and attacking her.

Give me injured Mike because he protects the kids but most importantly he’s protecting his baby sister, because FUCK OFF HENRY YOURE NOT HURTING ANOTHER PERSON I LOVE.

Give me the Will and Robin storyline still but realizing his feelings aren’t about Mike by NOT trying to flirt with his sisters boyfriend.

Give me Will and El comforting each other because their person thats supported and fought for them through everything that’s so important to them is gone and they need to be the ones looking for and saving him this time.

Give me Will, El, Nancy, Lucas & Dustin working together because they’re so desperate to save Mike and Holly.

Give me Dustin breaking down with Lucas over another friend vanishing like how it all started and being so scared it’s not going to work out this time.

Give me Steve comforting them while Robin and Jonathan are trying to put plans together and make sure their people are going to be safe.

Give me Nancy and the group seeing Barb’s body in the upside down instead of whatever the fuck the random dead soldiers were.

Give me answers to about 25,000 open ended questions they created but NEVER answered.

GIVE ME FREAKING DEMODOGS, DEMOBATS, & DEMOGORGANS LIKE WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY???

GIVE ME MIKE & EL HAVING THEIR HAPPY ENDING WHILE HIDING BUT GIVING THEIR LOVED ONES CLUES THEYRE OUT THERE.

UGH. so many thoughts going around and this is just some of them. Someone wanna write a fix it with this?? 😩😤🫠😭

the last thing el said to hopper was “i’m not sara.” she gave him back her bracelet. she let him believe she was safe. she never said goodbye to the man who chose to be her father.

she never said goodbye to the mother who took her in when she had nothing, the woman who inducted her into her family with a haircut everyone made fun of but she treasured as her own.

she never said goodbye to the older brother who looked after her in an unfamiliar home, who drove blindly into the desert on the idea of hope that they would find her.

she never said goodbye to her best friend, the only girl who ever took the time to try to understand her, the only girl who wanted to help her learn who she was to herself, the girl whose life she refused to let end before its time.

she never said goodbye to the boys who found her in the woods, the boys who were scared of her at first but who became some of her most trusted friends in the world. the boys who saw her as, yes, a hero, but also as a girl, too.

she never said goodbye to her brother, her twin in everything but genetics, who saved her life as she saved his from the monster who destroyed both their childhoods. she never said goodbye to her real brother, the one who understood her to her core, the one who showed her that the monster was not the family she deserved.

she said goodbye to her sister, after a years-long separation, as she bled out in her arms.

the last thing el said before her final goodbye—to the first boy who ever showed her kindness, the boy who never quite understood her the way she wanted him to but who cared for her regardless—was “i love you.” and she never heard it back.

Talking about Anakin´s inability to value himself as a person instead of being an asset for his master and loved ones, be it as a slave, pilot, jedi, soldier, sith, chosen one, the only roles he choose for himself were Son, Husband and Father. If they ask the very first thing he is ready to sacrifice for those he loves is himself :( because he forgot he matters as a person too and not just because of what he can do for others.

This is why Luke´s approach with Vader was so genious:

" I love you, I want to have a relationship with you, you don´t need to do or be anybody else but yourself, Anakin Skywalker, my father, I just want you to get better and be happy "

Like Palpy and the darkside did their best but the moment he tried to hurt his boy seriously Vader was like nope, that´s my boy and I am his Dad, get out of here, you can hurt me instead.

I think something beautiful about Luke Skywalker being determined to save his father is that he only knew Darth Vader. He never met Anakin Skywalker, and he barely heard any stories about him. If Padme had lived to fight for Vader's soul, she would have been doing it in the memory of Anakin Skywalker. If Obi-Wan had done it, it would have been for the sake of the apprentice he loved. If Rex had done it, it would have been out of loyalty to his old general.

Luke didn't know any of those people. He didn't know Anakin, son of Shmi Skywalker. He didn't know Anakin of the Jedi Order. He didn't know Anakin of the GAR and 501st. He didn't know Anakin, husband of Padme Amidala. He didn't even know Anakin, father of unborn twins who he was eager to love and protect.

The only person Luke knew was Darth Vader, scourge of the galaxy and attack dog of the Emperor. A broken, ugly-hearted, pitiful killer who clumsily reached out to Luke, trying to force a family relationship on his terms, and hurt him in the process.

And Luke, largely without sacrificing his personal safety or moral compass (which is important; you can forgive someone without endangering yourself or others), forgave him. He forgave Darth Vader for the wrongs he did Luke personally and saw past all of it into the painful, twisted knot that was what remained of Vader's soul. He saw a man who wanted his son back. He saw a man who hated the Emperor. He saw a man who wanted to love him, even if he had lost sight of how.

Like Bilbo Baggins pitying Gollum, Luke pitied Vader.

And perhaps the most important part of it all was that Luke wasn't seeking a past version of Vader. He was a boy who, after having grown up thinking he was an orphan, discovered he actually had a father. He was a boy who desperately, desperately wanted that father to choose him. Because isn't that what every child wants, at the end of everything? To be chosen? To be held up as most important in their parent's life? The desire to save Darth Vader was an inherently childlike one on Luke's part, though that doesn't make the desire itself childish.

In the end, Luke was a redemptive force in Vader's life not because he believed in Anakin Skywalker but because he believed in Darth Vader, the only father he knew, and because he gave Vader someone to rescue, to put before himself.

And so the attack dog found his pup and finally went to his grave in peace.

Luke Week Day Four: Heritage And Relationships

Sorry, this will be a little bit short, I’ve been busy lately.

To Leia, Luke is a great friend and teammate, and later the best brother she could have asked for.

To Han, Luke is his best friend who improved his life and saved him when he needed it.

To Ben, Luke is a really supportive uncle and a well-loved member of his family.

To Vader, Luke is still the enemy, but he can’t stop thinking about how things could have been different, and so, to Anakin, Luke is the son he always loved, even before he knew he existed.

To Padme, Luke would have been her wonderful son, loved beyond measure.

To Owen and Beru, Luke is like a son, and they will do anything to keep him safe.

To Obi-Wan, Luke is the boy who must be protected, who is just like his father in the best way possible, and who provided a redeeming chance to train a future Jedi.

To Yoda, Luke is just one of the Jedi he’s known… but different somehow. The Last Jedi, and the Jedi who saved the galaxy, redeeming the Chosen One.

To the Empire, Luke is the number one enemy, but they have a reluctant respect for him and his accomplishments… and so does Vader apparently, as this is the only Rebel who must be brought in alive.

To the other Rebels, Luke is an inspiration, a Jedi who saved them multiple times, and a great leader and friend.

To the past Jedi, Luke is the successor to their Order… and they couldn’t have wished for a better one.

luke skywalker in the context of andor is sooooo. smiley insane overpowered teenager from the middle of fucking nowhere shows up at the eleventh hour No credentials No connections No resumé just happened to somehow rescue alderaanian senator leia organa from the death star with an absolutely braindead gambit in which he just. pretended to be a stormtrooper, with a wookiee in tow. then he gets in an X-wing for the first time ever, turns off the targeting computer, and blows up the greatest weapon the empire has ever created with one fuckoff impossible shot. meanwhile all these rebels who have spent years, their entire lives, existing in fear and deprivation and exile, painstakingly building this movement with their bare hands, paying in blood and sweat and tears, so far removed from the world of the jedi that the knights and the force are just stories now, to most of them -- these brave exhausted souls who know that no one person can stand against the empire, that it takes community, it takes trust, it takes you and the guy standing next to you -- find themselves watching essentially the rebirth of a mythological protector, in the form of a guy who's probably not legally old enough to drink, who sulks like a teenager whenever notorious smuggler han solo doesn't pay attention to him, who follows biggs around like a puppy, who falls for literally every prank anyone ever plays on him. and this idiot kid is the first person in a generation who can stand up to the empire, all alone, and make a difference. how much must they hate him and how much must they love him and how much must they fear losing him.

This meme again…a friend sent this to spin me up…and she was right, and I had fun. And here’s what they got in our Discord (don’t worry I’m having fun, I swear. 😅):

OKAY.

SO. Here we go.

Luke Skywalker was placed on a desert deathworld into the loving care of his aunt and uncle. Owen and Beru knew Anakin, even briefly. Owen felt Anakin’s loss, after his stepmother and then his father, in a couple of years. He had also lost his mother very young. Owen was devastated and traumatized by loss. As far as he knew, his stepbrother was brutally murdered by the Empire in the Purge.

SO, on that backdrop, we have how the Lars guarded Luke. They loved him dearly and did their very best to keep him close, keep him safe. By the shiny sun-dragons, they fought a Dark Jedi for him. They knew the dangers and felt the farm was the only safe place for him. They stymied every attempt at Luke leaving. Even as they knew, it hurt and disappointed the boy they loved, because they could see he was destined for the stars.

SO, we have two, let’s face it, parents doing the galaxy’s best job of keeping a Skywalker in one place AND almost entire out of galactic events, for 19 years mind you! And then in turn, Luke LOVES Owen and Beru, he keeps himself there on the farm as much as they do. They are sand poor moisture farmers. They can’t afford hands to help, they can barely afford a few inadequate droids, and Luke is taking the lion’s share of work as age and their harsh world grind his aunt and uncle down. He can’t leave them to the dangers and hardship. Presented with freedom and adventure as he’s always wanted….Luke refuses the Call, because his family NEEDS him.

Thus, all that established, how does a thoroughly bored Luke occupy his time? Being, undeniably, the best bush pilot in the galaxy. He and his friends challenge themselves to the most insane stunt flying and driving and skiing events that they can, that anyone could, on a world where everything wants to kill you, EVERYTHING. Your average hotrodder anywhere else in the galaxy isn’t learning to deal with incoming enemy fire as a matter of course.

Luke and his friends are regularly fired on by Sand People and criminals. That’s a fact of life.

And Luke is doing this poor as sand with food scarcity because that is his life.

And when the Empire murders his family and burns his farm, severing his only ties to Tatooine, Luke leaves immediately….and then acts out all that repressed Skywalker insanity in a week. He goes to the local hell hole, gets in an immediate bar fight, flees Tatooine as a fugitive, starts Jedi training and makes good progress IN A DAY, infiltrates the Death Star, frees a princess on a whim and no plan, nearly gets eaten by a monster, and escapes the Death Star, joins the Rebellion, takes their tests, achieves results that exceed their tests with no formal training, goes into battle with no more combat experience than his own hobbies, is more useful in his first battle than his father ever was, then achieves the impossible with a literally impossible shot only he could make, and survives.

THAT IS WHAT LUKE SKYWALKER DOES AT 19 AND ONLY GOES VRROOM VRROOM WITH HIS TOYS WHEN HE AND HIS FAMILY ARE HOLDING HIM BACK OUT OF LOVE.

By age 20, Luke is self teaching himself the Force and Jedi training from WHAT HE CAN SCRAPE UP IN THE DETRITUS AND DEBRIS OF THE PURGE, leading a new elite fighter squadron, and one of the Rebellion go-to operatives when they need difficult missions accomplished.

Luke has as most a couple of months formal training. He is that good in RotJ because he figured it all out by himself otherwise in 4 years.

Anakin at 20: “Boo hoo, they’re holding me back. I guess I’ll commit crimes against civilization…”

Luke at 20: “I wish there WAS someone to hold me back. I guess I’ll continue being a moral paragon with my entire lack of formal education unlike the rest of my family.”

OH and need I further expand upon the classism inherent in the meme?

Leia and Padme were both senators…how did they become senators and, in one case, queen? Hey, their families were wealthy and influential. Huh.

How was Anakin general and considered one of the most powerful Jedi in history? Huh, he was inducted as a member of an elite order of, face it, elite government agents with nigh unlimited funding, and the support of his unethically secret senator wife and the supreme chancellor (and galactic puppet-master).

What was Luke? A sand poor farmboy on a desert deathworld who worked tirelessly completing his chores so he could have some joy ‘midst his poverty level existence.

Huh. FANCY THAT, not having rich, privileged legs up in the galaxy makes it hard to have high social standing and power. WEIRD.

Guess he ought to pull himself up by his bootstraps….oh wait he doesn’t have any because of the oppressive Hutt “taxes.”

the meme piss me off too
