Absolutely love seeing discussions about how folklore interacts and shifts based on the current cultural landscape it is being retold in, especially when the folklore has been brought to a entirely new place, but also I need people to realize just how unbelievably vast the definition of ‘folklore’ is.

Not only can the definition of the genre vary widely, even a popular written collection or anthology of a culture’s folklore might not be in anyway accurate to the local folklore, or even the most popular version(s) locally. the documented versions are always going to be effected by the experiences of the person(s) who compiled them, and often the story isn’t even told the same way within just a few miles between each other, let alone throughout the entire ‘culture’. So saying that you, as someone geographically or culturally (especially if both) removed from the group, are able to give a hard stance on how a story has to be interpreted is laughable, ya know?

For example, the story of La Llorona is going to be vastly different when told, say, down the Rio Grande. She’s not gonna be the same in my area of Texas than she will be Taos, Juárez, local Pueblo villages, or Ojinaga. And those are all very close together, relatively speaking! So when a discussion starts in, say, California USA, about her and her cultural impact on horror, calling it ‘Hispanic folklore’ pulled from a ‘traditional source’ just don’t cut it, ya know?

You know, if you think about it, it's oddly sweet the that only Eliatropes seen in Waven are Bonta soldiers.

Guys, Joris is the new leader of Bonta. That means that he took Yugo's people under his wing after the Great Wave. He took his friend's people under his wing out of loyalty and affection.

We have decided to stan forever.

That scene where Vox shows off all the sinners being executed really annoys me because I feel like that could’ve been the start of actually addressing the sinner’s trauma instead of thinking big empty gestures will change their minds

Which side note, why was the conclusion “redemption is possible” and not “heaven needs to make amends”. Imagine if Charlie did prove that Pentious was redeemed and the sinners didn’t give a shit because Vox successfully convinced them that Heaven is their enemy. You know the reason why Trump is such an influential person is because he feeds into people’s biases (even if I personally think making victims of genocide represent MAGA to be an EXTREMELY weird choice)

chaifootsteps answered:

Not only biases, Trump feeds into peoples’ struggles and very legitimate pain. Facism takes root when the existing system isn’t working.

Hell has every right to distrust Heaven and realistically, some sinners will never forgive the angels and they’re right to do that. Vox made these people feel like he had their backs, that he was their voice, and it’ll be a tremendous waste if the show never truly digs into that.
