birthday cake is in the oven :)

I have 6 hours left of being 24. It’s funny being alone for your birthday when your life is so full of lovely people. But hey-ho. Life is good and I’m a lucky ducky indeed! My own place, my favourite people just a phone call away, and new friends in the town I’m in.

I’m listening to folk music and I might watch some more Criminal Minds tonight. Good life. I’m gonna treat myself to sushi tomorrow as my birthday meal :)

In a somewhat Skyrim side quest esque turn of events i appear to have joined the local Irish folk band as a singer and we went to a town about 20km away the other night to perform at a medieval crêperie.

Anyways this is your sign to go along to events because you might be adopted by kindly retired french people with a passion for celtic music.

Today was a good day! I ended up getting a 15.5 out of 20 on the exam I had a seizure in last week (my teacher is an absolute sweetheart apparently, he marked what I managed to get down and then multiplied it out to work out what I probably would have gotten had I not had the seizure). I’m very happy with that!

My magical objects class continues to be wonderful, and our reading to do for next week is The Picture of Dorian Gray, which is GREAT because 1) I love it, 2) I’ve already read it, and 3) I don’t have to re read it in French! English version acceptable!

My Wednesdays finish at 8pm after my B2 French Language class, which is late but those classes are always fun. It’s my birthday a week today so I am planning on making my favourite cake to bring in and share (and the week after I’m also planning some baking for our group presentation).

Today is bittersweet as it’s Bonfire Night, which in my home town is the biggest night of the year (flaming torches, costumes, marching through the streets, that kind of thing). This year is the first in a while where I feel well enough to want to march alongside my society, but I know I am where I’m meant to be right now. Next year will wait for me :)

if anyone would like more of my rambles on being an exchange student in France, I have a wordpress blog!

I have it linked in my bio here too but for anyone who wants things like

or

then here you go! I hope it’s maybe helpful, pls send me an ask or a dm if you would like me to write an article on any particular aspect of exchange student life and I will let you know when I upload it onto there. Basically it’s a way to keep my memories of this year as well as maybe help other people looking for what the hell studying in Poitiers is like because I found NOTHING when I looked for it lol

jellogram:

It’s like idk man, I still wash my paint brushes the way my art teacher taught me how a decade ago. I eat tortillas the same way as the ex I haven’t seen in years. You can fly to the other side of the world and the shop will play the song your dad played in the car when you were a kid and it still sounds exactly the same. My hair grows funny in one spot because I got a scar on my scalp when I was six.

Sometimes I reach for light switches that aren’t there, that have never been there, because I used to live someplace that had a light switch in that spot. And I think maybe life is about repeatedly reaching for light switches that aren’t there. In a few years you’ll be somewhere else, and you’ll reach for the light switches you have now.

Reading and annotating La Vénus d'Ille for my Magical Objects seminar today (yes that IS my favourite class, how did you guess?)

On Wednesdays I have classes 14.30-20.00, so I’m making the most of the library as it will be closed by the time I get out of my French B2 course.

(Also I baked cookies last night and ate three for breakfast today hehe 😌)

It’s my birthday in 10 days and I’m in a different country to all my family, my closest friends and my partner. However! I will enjoy it! I’m going to bake myself my favourite cake and also bake one to share with my language class. I’m thinking of maybe getting my nails done or something as a treat, idk. Thinking of hosting a little dinner party for some of my new friends maybe? We shall see, we shall see
