Rdr2 + Dinosaurs!

Felt like combining two of my interests so that I could practice drawing both! (And develop a style with lineart because that's something I'm still getting used to lol). Wanted to add some explanations for each choice too in case you guys were curious!

Arthur and The Shire | Yutyrannus

I wasn't entirely sure where I wanted to go with him at first. High honor, low honor - in these cases he might have something different - but I wanted to make the dinosaur somewhat 'universal.' Since I started playing Rdr2 for a third time, my choice was definitely influenced by the general Ambarino environment. But it was also determined by 'first impressions.' What did Thomas Downes think when first seeing Arthur? What about Jimmy Brooks? While you can redeem (haha) Arthur later on, there's no denying he's a bit more intimidating/aggressive at the start of the game. I went with the Yutyrannus based on that - he's the gang's scary muscle (allll those Strauss missions), and he would need a dino of a similar type to match that!!

Bill and Brown Jack | Ankylosaurus

While I was thinking about Bill too, I knew EXACTLY which dinosaur I wanted to go for when I looked at Brown Jack. That horse would've been an Ankylosaurus in another life.

Charles and Taima | Styracosaurus

Charles was easy - I knew I wanted Taima to be within the Ceratopsidae family (they felt kinda similar to bison, in a way?), and I landed on the Styracosaurus because I really wanted to draw those fun horns :D

Dutch and The Count | Quetzalcoatlus

OKAY YES NOT A DINOSAUR. But I NEEDED Dutch to have a Quetzalcoatlus. Dutch would want something flashy (thinking about how you have to upgrade his tent first before anyone else's for 'morale'), so I know for a fact he'd go for the largest flying reptile ever... maybe getting to Tahiti isn't a crazy idea after all.

Hosea and Silver Dollar | Maiasaura

Maiasaura means 'good mother' (lizard) - pretty self-explanatory I'd say :')

Javier and Boaz | Maip Macrothorax

UH. Honestly. I don't know why. This one was purely about vibes and these were the vibes I went with.

John and Old Boy | Carnotaurus

Carnotaurus means "meat-eating bull" - I was thinking a bit about the epilogue (farming for beginners), and John trying out ranching in general. Also! I think it fits Old Boy too.

Karen and Old Belle | Stegosaurus

I love Karen SO MUCH. She's a little prickly on the outside, but with her reaction to Molly and some of her conversations with the other girls - idk. I felt like a spiky herbivore was the best pick for her.

Kieran and Branwen | Parasaurolophus

His was what started this whole thing! (Can you tell he's my favorite I draw him so much). I knew I wanted to draw him with a Parasaurolophus so quickly that I had to make searches like 'duck-billed dino with horn thing?' 'duck-billed dino that makes noise with head?' Don't ask me wtf those searches are, I completely forgot the name, I only had the vision LOL.

Lenny and Maggie | Gallimimus

I wanted something that felt playful? For Lenny. And while we don't know how "playful" dinosaurs were, they're animals, animals are playful, and I know that I can watch birds do whatever the hell they want all day, so I went with a dinosaur that felt a bit closer to its later evolutionary counterparts - the Gallimimus!

Micah and Baylock | Utahraptor

Yeahh this one was easy too. I just kept thinking about which dinosaur would encapsulate that blue-eyed stare. I love Baylock too, nearly as much as I love raptors in general, so I had to match them up.

Sadie and Bob | Dilophosaurus

I felt like she'd have a smaller carnivore of some type - swift and fierce. I also think Bob, the horse, worked really well as a Dilophosaurus? He was one of the easiest ones to draw because the patterns of the horse were SO pleasing to work with.

Sean and Ennis | Spinosaurus

I debated what to do for Sean A LOT. Then I thought about his interactions with Arthur and how his choice of dinosaur might be influenced by that - sort of a, following in his footsteps thing.

Trelawny and Gwydion | Kelenken

He would 100% travel around with his terror bird and put on (con) shows. I figured he'd accessorize Gwydion a lot too, make him flashy and unassuming to any of his future targets.

Uncle and Nell II | Deinocheirus

He needed a dinosaur that would laze about with him and I thought an older-looking Deinocheirus would be PERFECT. Honestly any dinosaur that could provide Uncle with shade was a potential choice LOL

by the way guys, this deployment of ice to minnesota is largest ever. more agents than chicago. we are a much less dense state. we are being inundated.

It is the largest Department of Homeland Security operation in history. And yet Minnesota’s Somali population (this operation’s primary target) is upwards of 90% naturalized American citizens. It’s even more of a manufactured crisis than most DHS operations. Genuinely living in Minnesota now feels like we’re a small country on the brink of invasion.

I saw two ICE trucks yesterday on my way to give my friends back their house keys from when I was looking after their cats. I got home today and I heard whistles and honking from people chasing ICE, but by the time I got Matilda in the house they were gone so I couldn't join in the chase. I know there was a major attempt to steal my neighbors from just a few blocks away this morning while I was at work.

It doesn't feel like we're on the brink of invasion. It feels like we're being newly occupied by an invading force. Except that the invading force doesn't just want our total submission; they also want to rip half our neighbors out of our arms. They came for Hmong Minnesotans next, and they are also more than 90% citizens. We have a lot of minority populations who settled here because Minnesota prides itself on welcoming refugees; both populations have been here for more than thirty years.

Fuck this shit. It is terrorism.

Not just feels like, is. Feels like because is.

And for all the rest of us US occupants not in Minnesota, it's coming to us, too. Ohio is getting door-to-door ICE today, for instance, and I've seen multiple friends in other states posting photos of big ol' trucks, beds packed with ICE vehicles, rolling in to town.

We're still not quite two weeks into 2026. Get ready to plant your feet.

You guys know this reads like Anne Frank's fucking diary right? How the FUCK are you guys not in full blown rebellion already is beyond my comprehension.

— dearly, someone outside of US of hell.

We are in full blown rebellion, you ass. The goal here from the administration is to provoke us into violence so they can use the full weight of the military to make examples of us, probably by attempting to raze the city to the ground. We are civilians trying to resist using the laws that still exist to protect ourselves and save as many people as we can.

What the fuck else do you want us to do? Play right into Trump's hands? Fuck the hell off with your judgement if you aren't on the ground here. Go put some pressure on your own foreign dignitaries to pressure our government if you're feeling horrified, that might actually be of some use.

imagine looking at Minnesota, where a woman was shot less than a week ago and still people are coming out every time they see ICE, organizing neighborhood Signal groups, protesting every single day, where there are more ICE agents than cops, where the cops are not on our side either; Minneapolis, where George Floyd was killed 5 years ago, where a city council member who lost an eye to less lethal munitions in 2020 showed up to the site of the shooting last week to demand accountability, where the local immigrant rights groups have had to tell people to STOP calling in ICE sightings because they're overwhelmed, where ICE agents in SUVs are ramming cars in busy intersections, and saying "why aren't you doing more?"

we know this reads like Anne Frank's fucking diary. we know our neighbors are getting kidnapped and killed.

do you think a shooting war would be BETTER?

We are civilians. We don’t have tanks or helicopters or bombs and our opponents absolutely could if this goes worse. They had helicopters and tanks here in 2020. But we are out in the street resisting and organizing an armed enemy force spoiling for violence every damn day you smug asshole.

“If voting changed anything they’d make it illegal” is the whitest thing you can say btw. Suffrage for people of color and women has been a struggle since the inception of this country. Actually I think if you quote that, the ghost of Dr King should be allowed to haunt you as a poltergeist and never let you sleep,

This is not a definitive take. Initials thoughts in the wake of violence and horror.

I live in the Twin Cities. I heard a woman was murdered by ICE today in south Minneapolis and all I could do when I learned was go and see what I could see. I'm familiar with this neighborhood. Driven down that specific street plenty of times. Folks from every walk of life live there. Neighbors and activists were there as I arrived, and the MPD (as far as I could tell from their vehicles) had just driven away. (Chased by some snow balls, ooooooh so scary I know) All that was left was police tape a community member was bundling up, a bunch of expensive and inexpensive cameras filming the vigil, lit sage, drums and chanting, and blood stains in the snow.

I sobbed because my city is under attack. Some stranger hugged me. Another gave me a bottle of water. Everyone was gentle and patient with each other. (I was a little less than patient with News Nation's propaganda spewer, actually.)

If you have seen the videos, you know what happened. If you haven't, please watch if you have capacity. If not, understand that what in that video has happened many times to the black and brown members of this city. It will take on additional significance because it's a white victim and the murderers are this admin's thugs. But, rest assured, my city is often under attack by jackbooted thugs from elsewhere.

For context, this is only 4 blocks north of where George Floyd was murdered.

But, my city shows up. When white assholes with guns show up, shit goes bad. If they leave us alone, we take care of each other. We always have. We still will.

I saw people with whistles on nearly every intersection. It was the end of school, and they were observing children going home.

Leave my city the fuck alone. We have always had each other. Treating our city like the enemy means you know nothing about us. Nothing.

idk what fem trans person needs to hear this but you should get a winter skirt. get a thick long wool skirt. or else you will find yourself with only thin warm weather skirts and then be either freezing cold or dysphoric come winter. do not do that to yourself. invest in a heavy warm skirt and then you can frolic through the snow in style and comfort

I dunno about you, but at this point I'm basically buying groceries and animal feed and that's about it. Which doesn't leave a lot of room for participation in boycotts or blackouts or whatever. So, since all I can find online for "protest Black Friday" or "Economic Blackout" is "don't spend money" and I wasn't gonna anyway, let's workshop some actual ideas to say fuck you to our capitalist overlords this fall.

  • Kill a subscription. I've got permission from the kids to nuke Amazon now. Might wait till Black Friday for the symbolism.
  • Go to the library. Especially if you haven't in a long time. See what movies they have. See if they've got any object or tool or seed lending libraries.
  • Practice a craft. Set a goal to make something as a holiday gift.
  • Clean out a closet or a corner and take stuff to the thrift store. Go through holiday decorations in advance and donate them so they'll be available when people need them.
  • Donate money to a food bank.
  • Repair something.
  • Get some gardening books (from the library) and start learning so you can garden in the spring. Now is a really good time to start learning.
  • If going shopping with relatives is a really important family tradition, suggest antiquing. Great way to get a cool, long lasting thing that doesn't line Bezos' pockets and have some fun.

no one follows the trees warning

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN
