Edge Connected Feature Control (CFC) is built for admins who want real control. No more scattered settings or policies. No more guessing what’s happening behind the scenes. With CFC, you decide which cloud-powered and AI-driven services in Microsoft Edge are enabled or disabled, all from one place.
NOTE: CFC is currently in public preview and can be accessed by opting in to Targeted Release in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
What are Connected Experiences?
It’s important to familiarize yourself with the concept of Connected Experiences. Connected experiences in Microsoft Edge are features that tap into cloud services to make your browser smarter, faster, and more helpful. Examples include Translate, Compose, Auto Tab Grouping, shopping recommendations, and editing suggestions. These features often send data to Microsoft (or sometimes third-party services) to deliver intelligent, personalized, or collaborative capabilities.
Managing Connected Experience with Connected Feature Control
As Microsoft Edge for Business evolves to include more AI-powered and cloud-based features, organizations face new challenges balancing productivity, compliance, and privacy. Managing these connected experiences can be complex, with policies scattered across different settings, making it tough for IT admins to control what data is sent to the cloud.
CFC solves this by providing a centralized policy that empowers IT administrators to enable or disable specific connected experiences in Edge for Business, based on organizational compliance and data handling requirements. With CFC, admins get granular, mode-based control over which features are available to users, ensuring sensitive data is handled according to company policy and regulatory standards.
Why Use CFC?
- One-Stop Control: Manage connected experiences through a single, centralized policy.
- Compliance & Privacy, Simplified: Stay ahead of audits and protect sensitive data. CFC makes it easy to ensure features meet your organization's data handling requirements—without slowing down your team.
- Customize Your Edge: Every org is different. With CFC, you decide which features are on or off, and the EMX UI makes it a breeze to tailor the experience for your users.
- Transparent: View which features are enabled or disabled, so admins have extra help in understanding more about each.
- Built for Admins: CFC is designed with real admin pain points in mind. It's not just another policy—it's a smarter way to keep Edge productive and compliant, while making your job easier.

Getting started
CFC introduces three policy modes, each offering a different level of control:
Mode | Description |
---|---|
Off | All connected experiences are enabled. No sensitive content handling is enforced. |
Level 1 | Only connected experiences that are sensitive content aware are enabled. |
Level 2 | Only experiences that are both sensitive content aware and compliant with organizational data handling practices are enabled. |
Note: The Translate and Screenshot features are currently being enhanced to meet Level 2 compliance requirements. While these services are not yet fully available in Level 2 mode by default, admins can still choose to enable them through customization options when configuring Level 2. These features are actively in development and expected to be included by default in future updates once they meet the necessary standards.
