I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

my actual favorite scene in wake up dead man is the one where jud is on the phone with the woman from the construction company and she asks him to pray for her, the sudden turn from humor to complete seriousness without it feeling like a tonal whiplash is really really good
One of my favorite things about wudm is that it acknowledges the positives and negatives of religion and treats both as valid. It respect’s the pain that the church caused for characters like grace, blanc, and the people Wicks hurt and also respects jud’s take on faith. it feels very validating and welcoming to people on all sides of religious debate.
