Someone on like Instagram or something pointed out how the two previous dinner scenes with Yuna and David were framed and what it symbolised.

So in the first dinner scenes, everyone is framed and blocked so they’re like a triangle and any shots of Shane are perfectly in between both of his parents because they’re a family unit.

But then in episode 4 when they’re talking about Wimbledon, there seems to be a gap where the camera films and the table almost seems larger, because there’s an empty space. In fact, even the waiter makes a point of asking if they’re waiting for someone.

And it’s because they are waiting for someone. They’re waiting for Ilya and so in episode 6 at the cottage, when all four of them are together the scene is perfectly in balance.

And that just fucking kills me because I’ve been waiting for it since someone pointed it out and I can’t believe it works so well like it’s fucking remarkable - Jacob Tierney the man you are!

Also can i say that i think the elevation of Svetlana’s inclusion in the show was so fantastic not just because Ilya needed another character in his life to bounce off of dialogue wise but also because it showed how he behaves when he’s comfortable. He’s always laying in her lap and getting pet, joking around with silly voices, he likes to play and rough house and we see glimpses of that with Svet because she’s his childhood friend, so slowing seeing those behaviors come out as he gets more settled with Shane was so incredibly sweet and rewarding.
