The Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical premiered on Disney Channel in the USA on 20 January, 2006. The DCOM became an instant hit, is beloved by people all around the world and its cultural impact cannot be understated. An entire franchise was spawned from its success including two sequels, a spin-off movie and tv show, a multi-country concert tour, a tour film, a stage musical, a reality show, parades in the Disney Parks, toys, books, comics, video games, board games, and multiple international film adaptations. High School Musical changed the landscape of Disney Channel and shifted much of the network's programming to being musically driven content going forward, something that is still prevalent today. The trilogy's director and choreographer Kenny Ortega went on to direct 4 other hit Disney Channel Original Movies and became the first DCOM director to be awarded the title of Disney Legend in 2019. The main cast was shot into superstardom and remain household names to this day.
High School Musical has been such a big part of my life for so long. I was 8-years-old when the movie first came out and became instantly obsessed. It was probably the first thing I was ever truly a "fan" of. Who knows how many times I've watched it since then. It's my favourite DCOM (and I've seen all 100+). Troy Bolton is my favourite character of all time. These characters and songs and friendships and messages mean so much to me and I'm so grateful to have had them with me for the past 20 years. I've never stopped loving High School Musical and I never will.
“We dropped different numbers of balls at different rates, different heights. We had a ramp. The ramps were at different angles, trying to get the most out of the balls as they hit the actors. After doing the tests, we figured out 35 feet above the deck of the ship was the height we needed our nets. We had these three big nets that held almost 80,000 per net. The balls dropped 35 feet into ramps that projected them towards the stunt guys. It just knocked them over. It was pretty spectacular.”
-Mark Hawker, SFX Coordinator for Pirates of the Caribbean
“It’s amazing to see a bunch of 40 and 50-year-olds turn into three-year-olds all of a sudden. Everybody had to pick up blue balls, hit the other guy in the head. It was like, ’Is it time for the parents to come pick up the kids?’”
-George Marshall Ruge, Stunt Coordinator for Pirates of the Caribbean
#what a cool way to film waves crashing over a boat!!!
Shame on me for not clarifying from the beginning, but this set up was not meant to simulate water. This was to help the SFX team animate the part where the sea goddess, Calypso, turns giant in visual call-back to ancient Greek pottery, and then escapes her human body by exploding into a quarter million crabs.
On Pirates 1-3 if they wanted a big wave to go over the boat, they just straight up dumped giant bucket-tanks of water over the actors (they did this to Kevin McNally and Orlando Bloom in the first movie) or blasted the hull of the ship with water cannons ❤
(Some of the white is smoke from the debris mortars firing too)
At what point in Book 1 does "Peeta Mellark" become simply "Peeta"? Katniss always seems to refer to him by both names at the beginning?
Ex. "Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been
crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be
trying to cover it up."
Hmm. After a search, it looks like the last time she refers to him by both names is in the arena, just after being stung:
"Peeta Mellark just saved my life.
Then the ants bore into my eyes and I black out."
Feel like I’m losing my mind watching the people of Iran rise up against the dictatorship and not a single news organization is bothering to cover it properly

Hello? Hello? Massive demonstrations with people occupying the streets in twenty-six provinces for a regime change and you think a little article from six days ago saying “economic insecurity has caused civil unrest” actually covers it??? Thirty five people killed and more than a thousand arrested and you say nothing???

According to local doctors, the numbers are now 16,500 killed and over 300,000 wounded, many of them blinded after they were shot in the face by pellet guns. The regime is reportedly looking into ways to permanently sever Iran from the internet. Currently, the lead story in AP, NYT, ABC, BBC, and CBC is about US tariffs and Greenland.
