Meet our Indiana State Director, Samantha! "I love working with elected officials, shelter leaders, advocates, and law enforcement to make a meaningful difference for animals in Indiana," says Samantha, a dedicated member of the Humane World for Animals’ State Affairs team for over 6 years. Each day brings a new adventure in the fight to end animal suffering, and for Samantha, it's more than a job, it's a purpose. "I couldn’t ask for a more meaningful career". We're proud to support our team with robust benefits that prioritize physical and mental well-being, because showing up strong for animals starts with showing up strong for ourselves. Humane World for Animals recently participated in an important meeting of the Companion Animals Technical Working Group under the Viet Nam One Health Partnership for Zoonoses, focused on advancing efforts to address the dog and cat meat trade. The formal working group brought together government and technical representatives to discuss key issues affecting companion animals in Viet Nam and the region, including animal quarantine challenges, updates on dog and cat welfare, and lessons learned from a Hanoi rabies pilot program as it relates to transitioning away from the dog and cat meat trade. Discussions also included a draft national roadmap to reduce and progressively end the dog and cat meat trade, aligned with Viet Nam’s goal of rabies elimination by 2030. As part of the agenda, Humane World for Animals delivered a presentation on South Korea’s policy journey toward ending dog meat consumption, outlining the practical mechanics of change, from engagement to policy development and implementation. The presentation was intended to highlight adaptable lessons that could inform Viet Nam’s own pathway forward. We were honored to contribute to these technical discussions and to support collaborative, evidence-based approaches that protect animal welfare, strengthen public health, and advance shared OHP goals.
