Haven’t seen anyone talking about it here, but vocal transfeminist and writer Tara Knight has been sent a threat from the fbi insisting that she stop speaking about “radical gender ideology” and get rid of the past 3 years of her work.
A black trans woman is getting personally threatened by the fbi for being a transfeminist. What the fuck. Hopefully this gets more reach than my usual posts so that people who are able to can support her.
While I’m not denying this is something that happens at all, I really want to say that this is very much misinformation, and I highly suggest reading this article. It’s absolutely a scary time for trans people, especially for transfems and trans people of color, but this is irresponsible and isn’t helping at all.

Tara did not fake the letter, she later learned it was fake. She really received what she thought was an authentic letter written by the FBI, and she naturally responded in fear. Sure, she didn’t do due diligence before reporting on it (neither did yall when reblogging this…) but she’s not a scammer or a grifter! The hate she’s receiving is disgusting and if she wasn’t a Black trans woman I don’t think she’d be receiving 1/10th of the backlash she is now.

i think what the problem is honestly and truly is that game developers (and honestly lots and lots of people) don’t ever believe that a fat person could be comfortable in being fat , or that anyone could ever want to be fat or play as a fat person, period. and both these games share a similar issue where they don’t really have any fat main characters, and the fat characters they do have are evil and disgusting and constantly dunked on for their weight. it’s “escapism” and in people’s perfect escapist fantasy fat people don’t exist. everyone is beautiful and skinny and perfect. kind of evil if you ask me. escapist fantasy is very reflective of what we subconsciously believe.

that’s what fuckin kills me every time. for years the body positive movement had to argue against people saying “animating fat characters is impossible!” and then BG3 has like five of them and they’re all some variety of greedy fucked up hedonist who’s either an idiot coward or evil or both
and that it’s 2026 now and your options for Fat Characters in shows/movies/games/whatever boil down to “this one isn’t fatphobic (because no fats exist)” vs “this one has fat characters (the narrative is wildly horrible about them)” is fucking infuriating

I say this with so, so much care: Real queer shit written by real queers can and will sometimes make you uncomfortable. That’s one of the defining features of weird, independent queer media. And weird independent media more broadly. Art that comes from true individual passion and authenticity has edges and bite to it that mass market corporate products intentionally do not. Has a rawness that can offend.
You are allowed to feel uncomfortable about it. But don’t ask for queers to self censor for your comfort.

On the other hand, instead of trying to contrive some anatomical grouping when what you really want to say is “trans women and cis men” without owning up to how awkward it is that you’re making that particular grouping of identities, through the magic of introspection, you can think about why you’re so desperate to do that!

It’s fantastic! And very horrifying! Imagining a world where fascism unequivocally wins. My partner pointed out that the hive mind is like the “perfect religion” (under fascism)- unusually persuasively nice to try to pull you in, their “rules” don’t make sense, they’ve lost all individuality, the idea that they might have a higher power they “do” things for that they themselves don’t quite understand (the assimilation)… the parallels with conversion therapy that Carol had mentioned she went through… much to think about. The fact that it’s called Pluribus in the first place- the USA’s slogan, “E Pluribus Unum.” I love it, I love Vince Gilligan’s work and I’m happy this is the direction he’s gone. It’s important something like this is coming out, boldly in the face of ever-encroaching fascism. Some think it is about AI, and that’s a valid interpretation- what is AI if not crystalized digital fascism?
I also can’t help but laugh a bit at all of the shipping fanart I’ve seen of the show though, considering, you know, haha. It is just funny to me that that is what people ended up taking away from it (no hate!)
