rambling about the new exist trace album,,

it’s still feels so unreal to me… having all these songs that i’ve only been able to hear during lives, that in between shows could only exist in my memory, now available at any time. it’s the first album they’ve released since i started watching their live shows (i.e. since they started streaming their lives).

but the most unreal song of them all is sabaku no hana. i heard it for the first time in 2021, at omi’s birthday show also titled sabaku no hana, and instantly fell in love with it. as far as i knew, it was a song written specifically for this show* and i was never going to hear it again afterwards. so i watched the stream archive over and over again until it was taken down, just so i could hear it as many times as i could before it would be gone forever. and i’ve been haunted by the memory of this song ever since. so when they announced who i am and revealed the tracklist, i was stunned.

i was actually slightly afraid it wasn’t going to sound the same as i remembered. and in fact my memory had distorted the song just a little bit (or maybe they rearranged it a little for the album release), but it sounds exactly as beautiful as i remembered. i feel like i’m going to wake up at any moment and this will all turn out to have been a lovely dream…

(*i recently found out it was actually first performed back in 2013, so really they brought back an old song for that show. considering the amount of twin vocals sabaku no hana has, it makes sense that it’s from that era.)
