Apologies if you've talked about this before, but personally, I still think giving tenna to mettaton is the right choice. Not because it's good for him, but because it's what he wants. A darkner being able to advocate for what happens to their object is kinda something you don't see happen like.. ever besides for tenna, and while him getting to say what happens to his object is a band-aid fix and certainly not a good permanent solution, it still gives him autonomy, and while, again, I dont think it's good for him to act like finding a lightener to serve is the only way for him to find meaning, giving him autonomy over his own life also means allowing him to make bad decisions.
Maybe this is my own history with mental illness coming through, but forcing someone not to do something harmful to themselves never works, but changing the conditions that causes them to want to do it does, so we'll eventually trigger something that rewrites the world abd changes those those conditions in such a way that darkners won't serve lightners anymore.
Also this got long, sorry
i do think that’s a very fair point – it’s good ground to cover! it could even make tenna come off as sort of a darkner’s reversal of dess-as-the-knight – i feel it’s incredibly likely that in a future chapter, noelle will have to grapple with the fact that even though her sister is acting dismissive and cruel towards her, she can’t force her to be the way she thought she used to be, either. she can’t force dess to give up her new life for her old one. it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how much of this is a meaningful choice on tenna’s part, given that it is a situation where he is being held at metaphorical gunpoint, but i do think there’s still merit in remembering that as you said, letting someone want something that may be bad for them or for others does offer them some degree of say that someone else deciding for them does not. as long as tenna’s still held at that metaphorical gunpoint, he’s going to fear it going off, and the only way things can truly change for him is to get rid of that metaphorical gun entirely.
but with all that said – i don’t think i’m quite sold on it being the authorial intent for a few reasons. namely, i feel it isn’t in-step with susie’s arc – her way of processing what’s happened to tenna is foreshadowing for the way she discusses her role in the prophecy later on.
How do you say "game over for my life for real" in Japanese

I think what might help the whole "low engagement in fandom spaces driving creatives out because they don't see the point in sharing anything only to get crickets or critics" is not the shaming tone of "look this is how you get nothing, you entitled shits" that tends to be very pervasive, but rather pointing out how actually rewarding it can be to leave nice comments.
I like to leave very long rambling comments on people's fics and that has actually netted me some very real, genuine friendships and we've become cheerleaders for each other. My friend has a D&D Podcast that she doesn't get ANY sort of engagement out of, so I started listening to it at work and livereacting the things I enjoy about it and showing her my investment and it makes her very happy and it makes me happy that she's happy.
Being nice to people... is actually a good enough reason to do things, shockingly enough. You don't have to do it. No one should shame you for not doing it. But it doesn't actually cost anything to make other people happy, especially if they created something that made you happy.
It’s me and whatever song is holding me together against the world.
maybe if i keep ignoring this feeling of impending doom it'll go away
how long til someone getting assualted by an ICE goon waxes them and we get trump or vance calling for a ban on conceal carry?
tbh im surprised no one has tried to use lethal force against them yet
Minneapolis as a collective body has shown an unbelievable amount of restraint. Like. This is the kind of shit that's happening out here.
Another person got shot tonight. Story seems to be that they were chasing a guy around for a half hour, until he went to his home, then he got shot in the leg. I'm seeing people say the victim's family said they started shooting through the door. They definitely deployed flashbangs. A witness reported "agents in tactical gear were shooting through a second-floor window." the DHS claim is that an agent was attacked with a plastic snow shovel and a broom, so they shot the victim defensively. Victim is alive, the wound was "non life-threatening," but that doesn't really mean anything because just about any gunshot wound is potentially life-threatening.
This situation is an absolute nightmare. They are trying to provoke fatal retaliation in order to declare some kind of emergency and flood the state with even more goons. Frey made the point that there are thousands of ICE agents in Minneapolis right now. MPD has 600 officers. They don't even have the numbers to resist this operation. Now, federal funding is getting cut, apparently. We are quite literally under siege. The federal Democrats aren't doing fuck all. All I've heard anyone do about this is resign from state-level positions.
People are trying to keep things from getting worse but I'm really worried that a line is gonna get crossed and it's gonna become a fucking warzone.
