Incredible. At a distance I understand how the woman might appear to be the abuser and the man the sympathetic victim, but the second you zoom into the man’s face the pink-cheeked rage- not remorse, or rejection, or embarrassment- not heartbreak or despair- but RAGE- the deeper story speaks itself into your suspicions.
And the bit where they’re HER roses? Almost a relief, but also sadder, as she will arrive at whatever event without them, or with them destroyed.
Do you think when the righteous anger and anxiety and annoyance fade, when she arrives at her destination- will her loved ones applaud her? Will she be proud? Will her hands shake? Will she walk home with company from then out, and for how long?
In this moment, she is provoked into anger. Anger is good- it appears strong. But look at his face. Would you put it past him to linger there after dark, in case she returns alone?
What story will HE tell, of ‘I was perfectly polite, but she didn’t even give me a chance- women like that, they’d swoon for a jerk in a heartbeat, but kind and flattering men like me?…”
I love this piece. It paints both stories while illustrating the power dynamics and struggles at play. This should be shown in art classes

As a trans woman, why the fuck is one of my sisters for coming at me for showing appreciation for the trans men and trans mascs in my life who have helped me discover who I am.
I didn't have a lot of trans women in my life growing up, but I did have trans men/mascs. The first trans person I ever met was a trans man, he's my cousin. Trans men/mascs showed me that I don't have to live with the life that was assigned to me. My highschool sweetheart ended up being a trans man and so did my first husband. Dating a trans man is what first got me to question my gender (Thank you @gnomeskillet for dealing with my dumbass, I miss your face) and it was a trans masc nonbinary person who finally cracked my egg. For as long as I remember, it was trans men who were there for me and helped me discover who I really am. Not that trans women didn't help, they just weren't as much as a presence and the men were until recently.
So when I share my experiences and appreciation and another trans woman, a friend no less, responds with "Is this satire?" and tells me I'm throwing trans women under the bus and I "need to talk to more trans women" it pissed me off. We are literally fighting the same fight, why does it matter that men are who taught me what it means to be trans? And I know this isn't an isolated incident, I see so many trans men/masc talking about how they are treated like they somehow betrayed the community by finding their true selves or how a lot of the anti-men discourse hurts them as much as it does cis men (that's a whole other rant about how "All men are evil" is bioessentialism and that's terf talk) and all I can think is why? Those are our brothers and siblings. They deserve all the same care and compassion as we get, so why the fuck are we attacking them?
To my trans sisters who are participating in this hateful discourse, do better.
To all the trans men/mascs reading this, I love you and you are amazing. Thank you for helping me be who I am today.
TERF are doing this, it's a shitty cycle but they use sockpuppets and detrans accounts and even faked accounts on both sides and every few years we lose folks to it.
There's a much, much harder divide push this year.
Trump's dying and once he does right wing focus will shift as will the money and backing, the UK and all the transphobes pull off the same rich right wing assholes.
As the planet makes ready for the death of Trump and Maga we'll see terfs die out in scale because they're not a right wing priorites.
They're desperate, really desperate, white power is the sole community that tolerates them.
So this was a great post, an important post given terfs pushing the divide.
I agree that a lot of the ones perpetuating this discourse are terfs poisoning the well, but I was talking about an experience I had with someone I knew and I've heard too many stories from people who have personal experience. We cannot get into the habit of assuming anyone who does this is just a secret terf because that allows those in our community doing this to keep harming our community.
Fortunately, the solution is the same either way, when someone attacks one of us, the rest of us show up and defend them. The trick to it is to pointedly not engage the bad actor, just drown them out with support to their victims.
They want engagement, do not give it to them.
Whether they are a terf or a toxic member of our community, we must make it clear that their opinions aren't even worth listening to.
Thank you for this addition, it is important to remember that a lot of the discourse is done in bad faith, that sometimes gets lost and I appreciate you reminding me.
