i feel. like on a fundamental level. i do not understand x reader fic. i am not exactly opposed to it because let a thousand blossoms bloom etc. but like. i genuinely don’t get it. it seems like the exact opposite of how i engage with fiction. like the whole point is that i’m not in there. i don’t wanna be in there. if i’m in there it’s going to be very stressful.

may 2026 bring us closer to a Palestine liberated from zionist occupation, and a Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan free from proxy exploitation. May 2026 see more people gain the courage to make the world a little better than before. May we all remember to tend seeds whose trees we may never sit beneath. Consider donating to/sharing The Sameer Project, or Khartoum Aid Kitchen or Focus Congo. All power to all the people. Happy new year.

Work chapstick. Car chapstick. Nightstand chapstick. Bathroom chapstick. Jacket pocket chapstick.Bag chapstick. You have to be prepared.

Shane’s comfort is his home and his family. When he wants to open up to Ilya, he asks him about his parents and about Russia. Which only causes Ilya to shut down. Ilya has always understood his sexuality and is comfortable with that part of himself. In episode 4, Ilya kept trying to talk to Shane about sex and sexuality. Shane’s sexuality is still something he’s suppressing and doesn’t want to reckon with right now.

The reason Shane and Ilya have such a hard time communicating is that their safe space is the other person’s trigger.

Episode 4 opening montage does several things I love that really emphasize the passage of time and keep the plot rolling

1. You can physically see them age up Shane and Ilya with like their workouts/ muscles and how they look

4. The attention to detail with the phones and headphones is so fun

2. Ilya starting to lose interest in clubbing and the casual sex by 2016. he’s more responsible for his father, he’s got other things going on and going out and getting laid aren’t interesting his much anymore. Also the peaks of Svetlana noticing are a nice add as well

3. Shane and Ilya physically getting more intimate each time they meet up !!! They start off with Ilya aggressively fucking Shane face down into a couch and it ends with them giggling into kisses up the stairs while undressing each other. Between that and the schedule checking/ smiling at their phones you can see how every time they get more and more excited to see each other and that it’s building into something beyond the physical !! Which is when we get to the big tuna melt blow up in the present !!!

Like this is how you do a montage !! 👏👏👏I don’t think I’ve seen a form of media use one so effectively and communicate so many important plot points of a story, and fun nuances, like ever! What a way to keep the show moving but keep the pacing consistent and the events meaningful
