Jamelle Bouie, "Everything is Gender"
"Happening in the context of a society wide gender panic"

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.
"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?
"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?
"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
I heard this out as "When criticizing something, you must judge it for what it is, not what it isn't"
you have to go outside or you will forget what women look like and before you go "this is about nerds and anime women I don't need this information" you do okay because this is about filters, AI, algorithms, Instagram, tiktoks, shorts, etc you are being given a barrage of the most statistically pleasing facial structures through a machine built to learn and return the optimal image to keep you engaged longer some women do in fact look like the goddess Aphrodite but the machine is giving you 10,000 of them in short order you were not meant to see that many you were meant to go to the walmart to get a 10 pack of hanes underwear and see a slightly tired mom with an absolute shelf for a butt and thank the heavens you were born in just the right time to live to witness her
My child, who spends their entire life being transfered from home to car to school and back, and is not allowed to leave the house or talk to anyone and can only in their wildest dreams imagine a life free from constant surveillance, is very sad. Obviously they're dumb and lazy, like all kids these days.
kind of a tangent but i recently went to a bowling alley with my friend i'm 19 he's 18 and the woman at the door didn't want to let us in because there was a sign saying under-18s needed adult supervision. everything got cleared up and we were able to go bowl, but i'm still so mad about the fact that kids need adult supervision to go to a bowling alley and arcade. like okay maybe young kids should have supervision but what do you mean middle and high schoolers need to hold mommy's hand while they play video games. kids aren't just addicted to their phones because phones are addicting, we're addicted to our phones because there's nothing else to fucking do
I'm sure banning kids from online spaces while simultaneously not ensuring that they have access to offline spaces to socialize in (without having to rely on their parents who already don't have time for them) will help them feel better & less alienated from society.
Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.
I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.
Taking these screenshots from Facebook because they make you log in and won't let you copy and paste:
There's a lot more context to this like Siken wasn't even @-ed by anyone he found the original tweet by namesearching himself, decided to respond to it, then when his response got replies he started throwing around accusations of parasocial stalking over some harmless hyperbole. Sir the only one being parasocial about you is yourself.
Then he accused the women above of having 'meltdowns' and asked Google AI for validation lmfao
And he got quite frankly owned here (if nothing else it's a self-own because pretending to not know words have connotations in society, as a famous poet, is hilarious)
Here are the 2024 vaccine recommendation schedules. They’ve already been wiped from the cdc site. Save them and share widely, especially to your friends with kids.
Hi!!! One of my parents got meningitis when I was a kid.
They were in the hospital for nearly a month, the rest of us were all placed in medical quarantine, there were several points we thought they were gonna die, and even though they survived, it was a SUPER close call and they lost about two years of memories from the ensuing brain damage.
Like… a two-uear-long cookie-cutter pocket of thoughts and memories went missing right out of their brain. It’s an inflammation of the brain that cooks it alive.
I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A VACCINE.
I WILL BE GETTING IT.
gameshow voice: is it gay subtext or are the writers just so catastrophically bad at writing female characters that the only relationships in the entire story that feel human are the ones between the men.
Ppl make fun of that genre of horny post where words are different colors but I actually think it’s funnier that this website even has customizable text colors, something most social media does not have, and that’s like the only thing ppl use it for
Renee Macklin Good’s wife, Becca Good, said that the 37-year-old poet and mother of three was made of sunshine. “She literally sparkled,” Becca Good said in a statement. “I mean, she didn’t wear glitter but I swear she had sparkles coming out of her pores. All the time.” But behind that light was a well of deep values that Macklin Good lived by, including a conviction that every person — regardless of “where you come from or what you look like” — deserves compassion and kindness. “Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole,” Good said. Those were the values that brought the Goods to stop during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis on Jan. 7. Though they were relatively new in town, Becca Good said they wanted to support their neighbors. “We had whistles,” she said. “They had guns.”
In case you hadn't gathered, I am always extremely pro-animal product here. Pro-wool, pro-leather, pro-fur. Thoughtfully purchased and taken care of, animal products will last you forever, and "vegan" alternatives are all made out of plastic and fall apart in two years, anyway.
i think it's important to acknowledge that the reason why mastercard/visa has such a stranglehold on american society is because cash is not the main form of payment in the usa. the predominance of card has effectively privatized currency
in japan, one of the reasons why dlsite and other similar websites are able to just remove visa as a payment option instead of changing any of their merchandise (aside from the fact that visa doesn't have a monopoly here) is because cash payments for online transactions remain an option. even if you don't have a jcb credit card or paypay or whatever, you can still pay for your online purchases using cash by taking your barcode to a convenience store, and you can do this for essentially every online vendor, meaning credit card companies can't just impose their moral judgments on your purchases with much repercussion
How does that barcode system work? I've never heard of something like that.
1. you add whatever porn games or movies or books you want to your cart and go to checkout
2. you select cash payment at conbini as your payment method
3. youre emailed a barcode that you take to the conbini
4. you show it to the cashier, they scan it, and you pay what you owe. note that the cashier does not see what youre buying
and the transaction is complete
from the notes im learning that brazil also something similar. based tbh
Mexico too, there are multiple convenience stores you can pay at, sometimes you can also pay directly at the bank if it is offered even if you’re not a client of said bank.
which is itself derivative of
Wait. You're telling me they're literal shit accumulaters? They take the nitrates in wastewater, runnoff from pesticides and dung, and maybe also human waste sewage? And concentrate the nitrates over and over through evaporation?
what part of the human body is this? whenever I'm sick, it feels insanely bad
The Sickness Nodules
The Lumps of Disease
The Lymphen Mounds of Despair
Not to be serious or anything on a funny post - but - on the off chance that it helps people who have received medical advice etc etc -
Gentle self-massage of this area (manual lymphatic drainage) is so widely accepted as a management technique for inflamed lymph nodes that research papers literally just say, “MLD is widely accepted as a basic treatment for this symptom.” Normally, this is found in cancer patients, but the discomfort of inflamed lymph nodes can apply across groups.
Cancer patients are particularly known for having a tough time with these “Swollen Glands” and a self-massage to “strip” the swelling can provide relief. Although it is effective outside of cancer care, this knowledge is often siloed within cancer care.
Read some reputable sources and consult a doctor if you have complex symptoms or conditions. This is not medical advice; I am not a doctor and I am not your doctor.
the most basic form of self-massage to alleviate the symptoms is taught below.
I work with massage therapists, including ones who specialize in post-operative lymphatic massage and this video is the very one we send home with client for "homework"!
Note: (This is not meant to discourage the techniques above, just to clarify a little what's happening.) Your lymph nodes' job is to swell up when you're sick. They are busy at work producing the white blood cells that make you better! You have lymph nodes on the sides of your throat, in your armpits, just below your collarbone, near your crotch, and several other places (including lymph tissue in many major organs like lungs and liver), and any or all of these can go nuts when you're sick and that's good and healthy. (Again, not saying not to do stuff to relieve the discomfort, just clarifying that it's not something to worry about.)
However, if your lymph nodes stay swollen for more than 4-6 weeks after you're no longer sick (or when you weren't noticeably sick to begin with), especially if it's only the ones on one side of your body or you get nights sweats and/or itching all over your body that isn't helped by the usual things like moisturizing dry skin, see a doctor, because those things could be signs of lymphoma.
Brought to you by my old lymphoma patient email group, which got questions about once a week from people whose lymph nodes were swollen totally normally but they were freaking out thinking it was cancer. It's not! 99.99%+ of the time it's really not! But it helps to know what the actual signs are so you can reassure yourself.
One more fun fact!
The job of the lymph system is to collect the fluids that build up in your tissues, clean them (in your lymph nodes--this is why the lymph nodes swell when they're working hard making protective white blood cells during an infection), and then return the fluid to the blood vessels near your heart.
But, like your veins, they're really low pressure vessels (the lymph vessels aren't getting pushed on by your heartbeat at ALL) that need some help to get the fluid to move. One of several things they use is the natural pressure of your skeletal muscles bunching up and pressing on them as you move around during the day. So if you're having more swelling than normal, gentle massage can also help get fluid moving through them back to your heart! (You don't have to worry about fluid going the wrong way--they've got one way valves all through then.)
This is also why when your feet are swollen from standing all day (gravity pulls blood down into your legs and fluid leaks out into your tissues) a foot massage can feel great and help out!
