"Survival"

Cone 5.5 stoneware, underglaze, glaze, nichrome wire

A piece about caring and bonding deeply intertwined with survival, and death as a legacy to the building of love and community.

Some may recognize this piece being on display during the spring of 2025, it was purchased for a surprise and was finally unveiled last month so I'm now sharing it online! :)

fuck my gay life. pharmacist asked for my ID when I was picking up my testosterone and instead of my driver’s license, I accidentally grabbed the fool tarot card I keep behind it in my phone case and went to hand that to her

Distant Utopia - from ひきだしにテラリウム (Terrarium in a Drawer) by Ryoko Kui

now that Dungeon Meshi has an official English translation, i hope someday Kui’s other work will get translated too. this anthology was really good, and this story was one of my favorites

this is getting a lot of reblogs lately and i’m so glad. i know people hype Ryoko Kui a lot but she really is that good at comics, and this 75%-tongue-in-cheek 10 page comic unironically showcases what makes all the politics and worldbuilding in Dungeon Meshi so good. some one please publish her other short stories in English please please please

i think the funniest thing about sikhi being a religion founded in the early modern period is that the gurus literally had guns and many of those guns still exist and are kept preserved in gurdwaras sort of like how catholic churches keep relics of stuff that belonged to saints but it's the gurus' guns and they don't have special powers or anything it's kind of like having your grandfather's gun that he used to kill nazis in ww2 but it's one of guru gobind singh's matchlock pistols he used in 1700 against the mughals. so it's not like any of that at all really i'm too tired to explain any of it properly

Remember when people made up that "oh the ORIGINAL saying ISN'T blood is thicker than water it's the blood of the covenant something something" that doesn't even make sense. "blood is thicker than water" is easy to say and understand that's why it's a famous saying. Why would you say oh the covenant and the water of the womb that's not a saying that's a mouthful I got lost by the third word

Sayings are supposed to be short and snappy what the fuck is even that

There was a whole video complaining about these new sayings claiming to be the "original" and none of them make sense. Why would you contradict yourself. "Los hermanos sean unidos esa es la ley primera... Pero también puede ser la segunda ley cuando quieras" te das cuenta lo pelotudo que suena

Also when one talks about blood and covenant in the Western vision at least it's usually referring to Jesus. Which "blood covenant" are you even talking about, did GRRM invent this

That post about the “true sayings” is one of my most hated Tumblr posts tbh like yes it is ultimately harmless but it’s such a stupid bit of lying pop history that doesn’t make sense if you think about it for longer than a second and tbh it is honestly conspiratorial thinking to act like there was some society wide coverup of idioms and proverbs.

I know disproving a Tumblr post using a Reddit comment is kind of ironic but this person found the earliest known usage of the phrases and for all of them the “actual complete phrase” from the Tumblr post was either a more recent addition or just completely made up for that post.

I haven’t been on this app in a while, but I know a Black man, Keith Porter, was murdered by ICE on New Year’s Eve (Rest in Power) in Cali. Just one of the countless Black people who’ve been murdered by ICE and other agents of the state.

I log back into this app and see the conversations around the white woman, Renee Good, who was just recently killed. And I can’t help but notice the stark difference in circulation of news and boosting of stories between both of them across this app…

Shit has BEEN happening to Black people across administrations and is currently happening to Black people under this administration, and is met by crickets. Yet when it starts touching white people, I see real anger start being felt from the gen pop followed by amplification and co-opting of Black terms and memorialization… I stg it takes everything in me to give af about yall.

"Friends and family of the 43-year-old man who was fatally shot by a Department of Homeland Security agent in Northridge on New Year's Eve gathered on Sunday to demand accountability and hold a candlelight vigil for their lost loved one."
