Conan the Barbarian #59 -February 1976- Marvel Comics

“The Ballad of Belit!”

writer & editor: Roy Thomas

artist: John Buscema

embellisher: Steve Gan

colors: Michele Wolfman

letters: Joe Rosen

When I read Conan comics in my youth it was partly a kind of wish-fulfillment fantasy to me, even though ethically I’ve always been a pacifist. Anyway, Conan’s great love is Belit and she became a big reason why I read the comic, too. I was heartbroken by her death. And the comic was never as good without her.

Apologies to all my girlfriends for unrealistic expectations. And for acting like a barbarian.
