Lotta true crime.
Neglectfu!Batfamily x true crime fan!Reader
• You were a Gothamite adopted into the Wayne family.
• You were in the portraits, you were in the photos, you were in the galas, and you were in the news.
• You liked mysteries. You really did.
• So when your supposed family started disappearing you looked into it.
• That's when you found the cave.
• After you found out you realized that you were missing from the seemingly most important part of their lives.
• You were a civilian. You didn't want to be more.
• You thought that would mean nothing, but you noticed it did.
• Bruce would hardly acknowledge you and would throw his credit card at you if you bothered him enough.
• Alfred does take care of you, but you're his last priority. You're even below taking care of the manor.
• Dick has never bothered talking to you more than a minute. He'll make plans with you and admit to completely forgetting he even made plans with you the next time he sees you.
• Jason has been nothing but antagonist towards you. He's never laid his hands on you, but even if you try to be nice he's an asshole.
• Tim never bothers talking to you. He's either sleeping, working on a case, or just gone.
• Damian was always rude and looking down on you. Especially since he thinks you're stupid. Because you "don't know" they're heroes.
• Duke is just too busy to talk. He tries! He does, it's just... Oh you had something you both planned for the weekend? He forgot completely, but he'll make it up! Oh... He forgot that too.
• Steph had talked to you a few times. You were nice enough, but she immediately wrote you off as.... A nobody.
• Cass watched you for a while when you first arrived, but wrote you off as nothing. You seemingly didn't know anything and didn't do anything interesting.
• Barbara was busy and you just weren't something she felt she needed to invest time in! You're older than Damian and around the same age as Tim and Duke! She doesn't need to worry about you!
• After you realized that you stopped trying because none of them gave you any effort.
• You still liked mysteries even if you didn't like where this one led.
• Gotham true crime was often either the usual or just not covered because Arkham mayhem garnered more attention.
• This led you to listen to crime outside of Gotham.
• Cold cases were nice if you wanted something a bit tragic, but interesting to think about. You never posted theories if you made them just silently wrote them down or thought about them.
• Already solved cases were sad, but were a nice who done it type night.
• Every week you had one night to yourself that you'd listen to true crime, typically it'd be a case already solved, so it could be a nice who done it type night.
• You'd make it a huge thing for just yourself and you'd have a bunch of snacks and photos set up to make it into a crime solving night.
• None of the family knew because they didn't care about you.
• Except one night on your little who done it game night Tim, the workaholic, is home.
• Why is Tim home? Because on patrol last night he nearly broke his back and was forced to rest. His computer? Gone. Batcave? Guarded by Alfred who'll take him up to his room on sight.
• He hears you. He doesn't know what you're doing, and since he doesn't have a case he'll go figure it out and maybe tell you to keep it down.
• When he gets downstairs he sees you a bunch of photos laid out on a corkboard with red string connecting them and a bunch of snacks on the table.
"When did you start doing this, Reader?" Tim asks as he looks around and looks over fake documents talking about evidence. "For several months now. Why aren't you on patrol?"
• "Why aren't you on patrol?" That question stops Tim. What did you mean by that? You knew? For how long? He's stumped before he responds.
"Since yesterday... Nearly broke my back and need rest... How long have you...?" Tim asks as you as you pause and turn back to him. "For a while. Since you can't do anything wanna join me?" You ask as Tim just looks at you.
• He's so bored. He just wants a case. And now you're practically handing him one? And all he's gotta do is work with you? The answer is an obvious yes.
• That first night Tim has so much fun. You butt heads on ideas, you agree on ideas, and you piece together a case that seems right. You both finally turn on the video and eat snacks only to hear you're both wrong.
• That leaves Tim reeling because he's one of the batfamily! A top detective! His first instinct is to blame you, but as he listens to the video he realizes it's not you alone. He made mistakes in his logic too.
• And then he sees you. You're laughing and smiling. You had so much fun. And he realizes he did too. It was fun. Like two detectives on a case together arguing about stuff except you both have plenty of time to mess around with each other.
• The next week rolls around and Tim's patrol schedule shifts just slightly, so he can join you again.
• And for the first time one of your family members see you. Not as the dumb family member. Not as the nobody. Not as anything other than you. And it's nice.
A/N: Very Tim centric, but I had this idea and thought it'd be fun. I think I might add onto this one more, but I don't know. I also really struggled to find dividers I like, but Purefantasia really saved me, so I got lucky.
