These exquisite frescoes, belonging to the villa of P. Fanio Sinistor in Boscoreale, are an example of the Pompeian Second Style, or "architectural style."
Patricians and the wealthy began incorporating large frescoes into their homes from the beginning of the 2nd century BC until the 1st century AD. This period marked a golden age for mural painting. Thanks to Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabiae are well known because they were buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

This is the size of the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.
Earth has suffered several mass extinctions, the most recent occurring a staggering 66 million years ago at the boundary between the Cretaceous and Paleogene eras, what scientists call the K-Pg boundary.
It is believed that the object that impacted Chicxulub, in the Gulf of Mexico, was a massive asteroid with a diameter of approximately 6 to 15 km. This collision caused the extinction of pterosaurs, ammonites, and most marine reptiles—that is, about 60% of the species that inhabited our planet. Recent studies have revealed that only mammals, birds, crocodiles, and turtles survived.
