20s A BLACK WOMAN BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE

When we say byler shippers love of Mike is conditional, and depends on whether he reciprocates Will's love, they always say we're lying and they loveeee Mike.

Wishing for his death.

Apparently you automatically become a better person if you're secretly gay. El needs to get away from him, like he's some abusive piss of shit predator. These are the same people that claim he parallels Brenner.Yet, want him for Will.

Maybe he was being a teenager. Strange concept, I know.

I know this doesn't represent every byler, but from my and many others experience, this is the sentiment of many.

Mike has to be gay or else he sucks. If he's so abusive to El you think he'll be good for Will?

This is why people hate byler, you all have taken your theory and made it the absolute truth. Theories can be wrong, headcanons can turn out to be just that.

You can be disappointed, but if your entire love for a character is based on a specific interpretation of him that isn't even confirmed, then I don't know what to say.

"el needs to be independent and make her own choices, that's why mileven should break up!!1!" EL HAS ALREADY HAD MULTIPLE INDEPENDENCE ARCS AND EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE STILL CHOOSES TO BE IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH MIKE!!! STOP DIMINISHING HER AGENCY STOP IT!!!

CRASH LANDING ON THAT DICK!

. Imagine being one of the women who got kidnapped by aliens wanting to experiment on you, staging a revolt, and crash-landing on a prehistoric hellscape. Now imagine a bunch of hot, feral men who’ve never seen a human woman before declaring you guys as their respective, fated mates. Yeah. It’s that kind of story. Is it too late to go back to the alien scientists?

ఌ︎. Chapter TWO - names and invitations
Synopsis: in which the tribe warned you of a storm and implored you to stay, with a catch. whilst debating it, you finally learn their names. Warnings: swear words, threat of violence, killing animals, hunting, drowning attempt, allusions to SA, threat of breeding/pregnancies/babies, nudity, erections, predatory/barbaric behaviour, not proofread - do let me know if there are any typos (I'm sure there's a fair few TT) Word Count: 12.3k
ఌ︎. MASTERLIST

This morning they were taken back to the clearing, all but one of them clean and free from their bindings. Except, they weren’t placed in the grass nor by the firepit; they were brought inside a huge tent made of patchwork leather and made to sit on beanbag-looking things.

Three of the aliens were missing from the meeting, leaving only Horns and Tails. All five women were accounted for, with their limbs intact and in place, and with most recounting an, all things considered, pleasant evening.

psa to white sinners fans: you can totally like Remmick as a character and as a villain. You can even write your weird little Sammy x Remmick fanfics. Just don’t have the audacity to pretend by ignoring the very disturbing implications of that relationship you’re not completely missing the point of the movie, and definitely stop arguing with people of color (especially Black people) when they say you’re being disrespectful. You’re right - the internet is a place where you can do and say almost anything, but not every bit of criticism is an attack on your freedom of yaoi speech. Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD. To a point, you’re exactly like the vampires: you take a piece of art that Black people made, you have little to no respect of understanding of the meaning it holds, and you use it like a puppet for your fantasies. Seeing Remmick’s obsession with Sammy as romantic is a uniquely you guys thing, and it kinda freaks me out. I am not against fanfics, and I respect the effort that you put into them. I think that if you put something out there in the public eye, people have a right to give you criticism for what you say, and pretending that we’re all against self expression is hypocritical when you’re the ones telling us not to say how we feel. so yeah, do what you want, but for gods sake please reflect a little on why you want to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong so desperately.

ps: I’m definitely going to be petty and delete replies I don’t agree with so unless you have a really good and well thought out argument, just block me and move on if you disagree. And don’t give me any of that “stop writing think pieces in the Remmick tag” bullshit. I’ll stop writing think pieces when you guys stop writing cultural appropriation porn.

THIS IS THE SHIT IM TALKING ABOUT

Joan and Bert “My beloved vampires” Need I say more about this post?

They were literal racist klan members. They were not “slapped upside till they understood equality.” They were under remmick’s control. He forcibly made them “unracist.” Just like he made stack and Mary attack their loved ones; something that they would never do.

joan and Bert made no efforts to change their racist ideals before Remmick took control of them, and I bet if they had survived the night and gained consciousness once again they still would have been racist.

Also, let’s talk about how you make them these uwu people instead of the idiot racists they are.

NAH WTF IS WRONG WITH WHITE SINNERS FANS

Imma only be reading Sinner fanfics from black people, cos I just saw a remmick fanfic where it's an x reader, but the reader is the daughter of a plantation owner. WTF. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. Between ignoring the black characters of sinners, centring the white ones, unironically making stereotypes of the black characters and misunderstanding the movie entirely, I've just seen so much trifling behaviour from non black sinners fans. This goes without saying, this is obviously not all white white people or non black people.

This the shit I be talkin about

Can't have anything nice when it comes to Black centered content. It is to be expected, and yet still horrendous when it comes in an avalanche. But the movie truly was a mirror for that behavior, so here we are again.

Asking for Sinners klan fics and plantation princess fetish fics is hella wild...but so on brand for those types of folks who write and read it.

I think the other annoying thing about the way (usually white) people reduce stories to just TV Tropes-style tropes is how they then somehow end up being even more reductive beyond that - so after reducing every vampire story to 'vampires', they further reduce it to 'vampires are inherently queer and always about being gay', and that's how you get (white) fandom deciding that both Sinners, a Black movie about Black culture and cultural theft by whiteness, and Dracula, a racist and xenophobic reverse invasion story about the East defiling white Christian women, are both somehow actually about queerness and sad gay white boys yearning for love (before anyone starts, I know Stoker probably a closeted gay, but that's not the main premise of the novel).

Avatar

Exactly

I love a good monster love story as much as the next person, but this whole trend of labeling every story under a fandom trope stops us from actually engaging and appreciating the works.

And then these same people would be astonished that conservatives complain that everyone sees Victor Frankenstein as the true monster, like you guys are doing the same thing. You are laughing at the people analyzing why those curtains were blue

You dont need to reduce everything under fandom lens just to feel good about the characters and the story. If the story makes you feel uncomfortable, examine that. Is that what the creator wanted you to feel? Did it hit too close to home? Could you not relate to it but see others do?

There's plenty of queer vampire love mediums out there, but you have to recognize when that's the case for appropriate discussion. Even though Interview with the Last Vampire(the series) is partly based on navigating queer relationships, it's also a story that heavily revolves around race relations. Unfortunately from what I hear of the fandom, they choose to ignore that major aspect for the sake of their enjoyment and not risk feeling uncomfortable. Which very much mirrors how the community interacts with its Black members and Black people overall. It's not pleasant to talk about so if you bring it up you're causing trouble

being a poc sucks because sometimes a movie comes out about discrimination and they'll have The Racist Guy, a character who's clearly meant to embody oppression and prejudice against minorities. and then you open up tumblr and everybody's like omg i could totally fix Racist Guy trust me guys!!! Racist Guy x reader 20k spicy slowburn #canoniswhatimakeit here's a massive gifset for Racist Guy he's just soooooooooooooo hot. you guys look like this

i don't really like to get involved in fandom discourse because i do have better things to do with my time but the people who saw Sinners (2025) and thought let me ship this white racist character with the main black character and also only really highlight the thoughts and autonomy of the literal racist villain and humanize him and thirst over him does remind me of the lack of media literacy in the world.

look i love fandom content and using media as an escape.

this movie is not for that. this movie should make you confront things about racism, colonization, appropriation, and privilege, make you question the history we are taught and shown and our own biases. art should change you and move you, especially good art (and this is fantastic art). it's not just there for you to play dolls with.

there is a time and a place and this is not the time nor the place!!

the only upside to people being racist is it will always ruin their art

sometimes its not right off the bat and sometimes not in a way you see for a minute

this post is about Sinners but also any other time a piece of media requires some Black authenticity that nonBlack people pretend is negotiable

you know when you are reading a good novel and something just comes off super wrong and before you know it you've put the book down and are googling their name to confirm, yep, they've got some weird social hang up or hatred

people who ignore the truth of the world end up with a lot lacking in their overall range. And the biggest example of this is how many people have destroyed their own legacy with their own hatred. we will always remember lovecraft for naming his cat the hard r slur when we approach his horror genre. every part of the book dune that is good comes from the writer and is wife and every part that sucks can directly be called homophobic, racist, or sexist. Like even if we didn't label them, the writers social failings show up in their work. everything I've ever learned about harry potter has been against my will but damn every issues she has in real life is telegraphed in her choices.

like you can go back and see how people's lack of intersectionaly set them up for embarrassment or how their lack of genuine love shows up. my brain is thinking on the white people make a book that has a Black character and the design is just offensive. Like they just failed, they did such a bad job but somehow they are shocked and offended. Children's books with Black little kids have struck me as so uncomfortable Ive dropped them and check the artist or writer and every time its a white artist. (Ive also been wrong, hope that helps its just about responding to the problem seriously not being perfect) Mind you, im just mixed, and the comments you can find for the book online will be Black ppl explaining this yet every white person is responding like this has never happened in all time. There just wasn't an honest effort to even respect Black ppl in the first place but the reaction will defensive for sure.

So yeah, everything has context but you CAN do whatever you want. I just know the people who are flooding tumblr with art of just the white vampire from Sinners are gonna crash out in five years when they dont understand why their pieces are unreadable to their desired audience and the only ppl who consistently engage with them are louder about their hateful views in the comments. What people allow in their comments is a reflection of what they really care about and it usually just holds true.

Like yeah sure you can but its weird and absolutely says something about your relationship with race. I'll tell you for free Michael B Jordan is too attractive for you to pretend you can't horn dog over anyone else and there are simply too many other good vampires. For this particular case, the hold onto rimmrick is mostly a reactionary one from people who are triggered when they are told no. The vampires in Sinners have a very clear parallel to violence and oppression that is not subjective. Some Black people have expressed clear discomfort with the focus of rimmrick in all spaces of the fandom and even uses of him being shipped. It is an effortless fix to make rimmrick content only show in spaces that ask for it but people will demand to have access to the shared space while refusing to care about the other voices in the group because they are used to being allowed to speak over them.

Let me help you out here. If you, in any vast fan fiction context, make Annie engage with vampires romantically you've taken her so far out of character you are just desperate. She is the lens of the movie that directly tells us how it works and directly expresses that it would keep her from her most important goal of rejoining her loss child. It doesnt matter if you think its hot, Sammie being bitten means his soul is enslaved forever by the rules the movie set up and that is clearly a punishment worse than death for all of the Black characters. Enslaving Sammie and calling it hot vampire art despite that being the central conflict and it never once being separated from racism is a choice you'll cringe about later. This is your hetalia. It's that obviously weird what you are doing. Not every negative reaction is someone picking on you.

You can play dumb and say its fiction and you're allowed blah blah, whatever dumb all catching absolutely statement you choose. (So I can't draw hot vampires anymore ? So I can't be attracted to- you dont care about Black people feeling safe no matter how much they tell you they need it. Just accept that about yourself and spare us the show)

I am not sitting higher than anyone on any morals I write dead dove cartoon porn online I get it. its never been okay to throw dark fetish shit in the mainstream spaces and pretending you dont see it as a valid trigger is racist. This isnt a "fandom" thing this is people who admit to having no ethos on the topic of racism to begin with being defensive and wrong about racism. A good portion of these fan fictions you guys keep throwing into the tiny spaces meant just for Annie that make her romantic with the vampires are just race play. And thats not like a passive thing you can just do to your brain hello. And if you are about to tell me it is not race play you better be able to define the words race, culture, ethnicity, and nationality comfortably and with the ability to utilize them or else you dont even understand enough to speak on these topics. I do not understand why people feel so comfortable saying their opinion on racism and then just saying shit like "well no one every told me" later in the debate. You shouldn't have acted like you had the same right to the discourse just because you were pissed off , some topics must be talked about with care and respect or you are participating in causing harm.

people who wouldn't be comfortable talking to a Black person in a Walmart will swear they have every right to their culture if they decide they want it. This is often an issue where Black culture is treated like it isnt real but it's also just mean spirited and classic aggressive white people bullying. We've seen a million times online where a group is told, hey thats racist and like clockwork they double down. If they can pretend any negative response is discourse enough other white ppl won't even engage and then they just get to have way with the space.

People can't go to the Sinners community and see random people begging to fuck a caricature , desperate to ignore the much MUCH M U C H hotter Black vampire, and read fanfics that puts the Black characters in love with their literal killers and oppressors (this isnt debatable the movie is very clear) and keep returning there.

But like I said, people will do what they want and they'll play stupid and tell themselves its really just unfair people won't let them be happy for no reason whine whine whine

and then inevitably, you'll see them spiral out at some point. putting yourself in a position where you have to keep telling yourself you aren't racist or you dont care trains you not to listen, not to notice, and not to understand. So you'll keep making art that lacks meaningful culture and one day when you make something that really matters to you that little bullshit you kept letting slide gets in there too and it RUINS your art and further pigeons you into a narrow set of behaviors.

So, karma or whatever I guess

I have a question about the racist character thing

Is it a red flag when people like a racist character even if they acknowledge that said character is awful and obviously don't condone it and like the poc characters as well?

Asking cause people like evil characters all the time and I'm wondering if for some reason liking a racist character, even if you acknowledge and don't condone it, is still bad for some reason

Avatar

so first off i want to start by saying that this is my opinion as a poc and obviously i don't represent all poc, we're not a monolith. although given how many other poc have mentioned feeling the same under the notes of that post i think im not alone here. the thing about racist characters that separates them from say, hannibal lecter is that racist characters are often overtly representative of a societal issue and system of discrimination in a way that fictional evil characters are not

i'm going to use examples from media i was thinking about when i made that post. remmick from sinners comes to mind, this one's more glaring because he and the kkk members in that movie were the only white people in a story about discrimination against black people. you'll notice that when remnick speaks he uses very specific tactics like talking about wanting to be united without the boundaries of race and acting offended when the black characters in the movie want to have their own space without white people as if they're the ones who are being racist against him. his powers include incorporating people into a hivemind and erasing their individuality to puppet them around as he wishes. his goal in that story is to turn samuel into a vampire so he can use his abilities to connect with his people, effectively dehumanizing him and stripping him of his agency for his own benefit and personal gain. remmick represents cultural appropriation and assimilation. sinners includes larger commentary on the tendency for white people to take the cultural practices of black people for aesthetic purposes while refusing them respect

detroit become human was. hm. questionable in its social commentary but i saw a lot of people doing this with gavin reed as well. he's a racist cop and minor character who is discriminatory towards the minority-coded android connor. a big part of the plot in that game is that connor is assigned to the police force to work with them but as the game progresses begins to realize that they perpetuate racist ideals and practices against androids. the good ending of dbh includes connor going rogue, quitting the force, and working against them and providing information to the leader of the android revolution, which takes strong inspiration from real life civil rights activism and is led by a black man. gavin represents the broader problem of institutionalized racism and i think i don't need to delve into this one quite as much it's pretty overt. i cannot stress this enough i watched a playthrough of that game gavin only exists to be a racist asshole. he's in like 3 scenes but he's one of the most popular characters in that fandom and has nearly 6 thousand more fics than the aforementioned black character who's also btw a main character. it's bad out there

but to follow up on your main question these characters are vessels for political commentary. they represent institutions, racist collectives, or discriminatory groups of people that exist in real life. they're walking personifications of racism. i think that blorbofying them and making cute headcanons to further humanize them especially when you do that instead of paying attention to the minority characters they oppose completely misses the point of the media in question. and it declaws the horror of the discrimination they represent, discrimination that happens in real life. worse yet it can intentionally or not send the message that they just needed those characters to educate them or show them compassion, when it shouldn't be on poc to do that for a person who treats them as less than human

I haven't seen Sinners yet, but unfortunately, it's completely on par for this smol bean racist white hellsite to insist that vampires (and monsters in general) are ALWAYS about queerness and inherently queer and literally nothing else ever, and that any depiction or reading of vampirism as anything other than innocent misunderstood (white) gays who just want love is wrong or impossible or the critic being homophobic, so I'm not surprised at all that people are turning the obvious racism commentary into omg gay romance!! involving a white man - it reminds me of the (white) gothic lit fandom on here where if you point out that a certain famous Victorian novel has vampires as an obvious xenophobic reverse invasion allegory about the East defiling Christian white women, they get mad and insist it's actually about a beautiful queer love story between two white men bc vampires are inherently queer and gay rep.

Avatar

🤷🏾‍♀️ like I need folks to realize some things just aren't for them. You can go find your yaoi vampire stories somewhere without having to erase the racism narrative (with a message that YOU CLEARLY NEED TO HEAR). If you cannot interact with a story telling you an important story without having to completely ignore it or uwu it, maybe it's just not for you and you should go find something else.

Hello, I have a list of Sinners takes (more so critiques and issues about the current state of the Sinners fandom). It's going to be a long one, so sit tight! For a full disclaimer, I am a black person—listen to my voice and other black voices. This list has three items.

(Before anyone says anything, yes fandom is fandom. People are going to do what they want and that's within their will. I'm not coming here to forcibly say that you can't do anything, but I'm here to preach my word and perhaps it'll make you ponder in your own time.)

SPOILERS AHEAD.

This is honest to god, the most stupid thing I’ve read on this website in a really really long time…

The klan members in Remmick’s little vampire cult are there to tip you off on the fact that despite his equality and fairness rhetoric, what he presents to the Black characters is not actually anti-racism and neither is it liberation or freedom. Are some of you genuinely incapable of recognizing racism if it’s not dressed up in klan robes and a white pointy hood?
