Exploring the Swahili and Bajuni coast, and you're coming with!
DHOW

"A vehicle that, once upon a time, connected lands across the Indian Ocean. She would sail to dock on many ports; but in regards to our tale, we focus on those of: Kilwa, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Pate and Lamu.

Today, she is harnessed to share the cultural experience of the Swahili coast with those unfamiliar to it. Furthermore, she is a means to secure ones livelihood should they choose her mast."

A small part of this passage was inspired by a video by @/swahilisultana on tiktok from her series "Before they drew the maps".

I just wanted this to act as a sort of introduction to my little blog here on Tumblr.

I want to use this space to explore and possibly be able to introduce the Swahili and Bajuni culture, and what that means to me as an individual through art.

I've noticed that there are very few spaces or people on the internet (as far as I'm aware) that extensively showcases the cultures, and I want to do my best to be one of those spaces.

One website that I'd absolutely recommend for any references pertaining to the Swahili and Bajuni culture is hiistoriya.com, I'd definitely give it a look through!

Well, I hope you'll enjoy this journey with me.
