MAKE A LOT OF NOISE ON THEIR FORUMS AND SUPPORT. COMPLAIN DIRECTLY TO THEM. THAT’S THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT.
Seriously. If even a third of the 15k notes on this post equate to users who GO AND COMPLAIN DIRECTLY TO FIREFOX’S SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS then it’s going to be a big backlash that they might even listen to.
Why does everyone think fiction is just fantasy wish fulfillment now and not like an exploration of themes and ideas
People will be like “this movie is evil and gross because it depicts a predatory relationship” and then you watch the movie in question and it’s about how preying on young women is bad and impacts their lives negatively
“Why would they do this instead of just making everyone in the movie nice and normal and good” so we would have this conversation….
I just watched a video about students getting their papers falsely flagged for using AI, even when they didn’t, and the advice was things like, “Leave in incorrect grammar,” “If you’re quoting something, don’t copy and paste it, type it out manually because it leaves a metadata trail that you used the copy/paste function and that’s a flag,” “Write in the cloud so there’s a version history,” and the one that really got me, “if you find you write in a manner that can sounds too robotic or professional and it gets flagged, go to the writing center so a writing tutor can help you sound more humanly flawed,” and like what the actual fuck.
Like I get that is practical advice, but people should not have to fucking do that. They should not have to train themselves around not sounding like AI, when AI only sounds like that BECAUSE it was trained on them.
I spent so much of my life learning how to write, I shouldn’t have to unlearn that because some computer algorithm learned from me.
My fellow college teachers, I have a thing you should consider: if your students can feasibly submit AI-written responses and get any grade higher than a C- then you are creating bad assignments. You should not have to put any effort into “detecting” the use of AI because AI cannot do the things you should be asking your students to do.

reminder that “allies welcome” was once secret code for “those not out yet can still participate without putting themselves at risk”, and for those who aren’t out yet to comfortably exist in these spaces you have to let allies exist in those spaces too.
this is also important for queer people who don’t know anyone else there. let them bring their friend, even if the friend is cishet. many would rather not go at all, rather than go somewhere alone.
