we seriously need to stop conceding to the personhood trap when it comes to abortion rights. is a fetus a person? thats a spiritual question. i dont care about the answer. should another person dictate what someone can do with their body? simple answer: no.

like if a fetus isnt a person it has no right to my body and if a fetus IS a peson it also has no right to my body because there is no other context in which we are required to put ourselves at risk of physical harm to preserve another persons safety or even life.

you dont have to save someone from drowning even if youre a strong swimmer. even in death youre not required to donate organs and that could save several people. you can kill someone if you truly believe your safety is at risk. we dont mandate preservation of life over autonomy in any of these circumstances.

i dont want 22 episode seasons back. i dont want 8 episode seasons. i dont actually want a prescriptive number of episodes per season

its the era of streaming. we dont need to fil x number of timeslots.

i want tv shows to be able to determine for themselves what their optimal number of episodes per season to tell the story they want at the pace they want. maybe thats a 3 episode season. maybe thats a 50 episode season. i dont care, i just want the decision to be made for practical and artistic reasons rather than corporate ones

not to be mistaken for toxic positivity again but my god you need to learn to love the oppressed more than you hate their oppressors or else you are just delighting in feeling righteous while leaving those in need out in the cold

Fun fact: if you, as an adult, tell miserable children that their youth is the best that life will ever be, and that it's all just downhill from there, there's a percentage of them who will hear this and think "well, I guess I better kill myself before that happens." And a certain percentage of those will proceed to do that and succeed.

Anyway what I'm saying is that any time you feel tempted to say that, you should instead consider shutting the fuck up. Just because you peaked at 16 doesn't mean anyone else did. Most peoples' lives get better than that.

Me: Jason Todd's issues with the Joker have less to do with revenge, and more to do with blatant systemic failures and feeling like he never mattered in both life and death. Devolving Jason's character to being obsessed with the Joker specifically detracts from his very real grievances. It was never just about killing the Joker. Saying it was is nothing but a cop out that allows the audience and the narrative itself to never have to engage with his feelings or beliefs directly. Also Me: It would be real cool if the Joker disappeared forever, preferably violently.

i don’t know if these comparisons say more about jason, talia, or bruce but they are fun

Bruce lands Jason in a dangerous situation because he didn’t do his due diligence to make sure Jason was going to a good home. This happens despite the fact that Jason was staying alone in the first place because he wanted to avoid bad foster homes.

Talia watches over Jason personally, with the fight being in a controlled setting with both herself and a doctor present, the goal being to help Jason regain his mental faculties.

Bruce makes Jason Robin, which we find out later was for selfish reasons as he missed Dick. In general Bruce justifies himself with the idea that Jason needed redemption.

Talia puts herself in danger to give Jason one last shot at regaining agency. She takes this risk because she believes in Jason and his capacity for greatness, his love.

Jason is upset by information Bruce has deliberately kept hidden from Jason about his real father.

Jason is upset by information that Talia herself gave him before he got evidence of it in the news.

Bruce has told Jason nothing about his predecessor, even beyond what would be considered Dick's personal information. Jason is unable to recognize him when they meet.

Talia volunteers information about Jason's successor, after Jason has calmed down a bit but long before he'd encounter him face to face.

I am shocked at how many people don't have an actively hostile relationship with advertising

I am skipping your ads as fast as I can. I'm skipping past your sponsor read. I'm muting the tv. I'm muting the tab. If they get too annoying I will simply stop trying to watch.

If advertisers can use every manipulative trick in the book to get me to buy their product, I am fully within my rights to do everything I can on my end to make their job impossible

europeans be like “omg north americans are so racist it’s horrible” and then elect fascists

I would like to emphasize that I agree with all of these tags by the way. My post wasn't aiming to pin all of Europe's grotesque racism on the new elections.

A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.

Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

so we found out the sex of our baby last night

before we found out, I told my husband to pick the theme of the nursery, because 1) I feel like dads get steamrolled in a lot of the decision making where they could otherwise be included, and 2) I trust his judgement entirely

he picked space. it's neutral, it's cool, and he wants to take our baby to science museums and have a shared interest. I love it!!!!

so we started loading our registry with space books and space onesies, and they all say "boy". like are you fucking kidding me it's just got stars on it, calm down oh my god, it's for a baby and a parent who loves stars. I found one (1) book that suggested that girls could be an astronaut. so everyone who saw the list thought that we were having a boy, and we had to keep telling them that we didn't know yet. and like I don't mind that it says "boy" on all the listings, it's literally a piece of fabric, but the comments from other adults are exhausting.

and then last night we found out we're having a girl

we're both thrilled (as we keep saying - no wrong answers there, we're just excited that the rest of the test results came in healthy), but as soon as I called my mom and told her that the registry is misleading because it says boy everywhere she went "don't worry, this happened when I had you, I wanted to keep you out of pink because I hate it and it's not your color, and I wanted you to be into science too, and everything is for boys, it's so dumb, but I'll find you good stuff for her"

so now my mom finally has a mission that isn't hovering over me, and it's to get our daughter into STEM 🫡

It's really disturbing how early gendering everything starts in children, you literally can't even be born without having stereotypes thrust on you.

When my sister was a toddler many many years ago she was really into astronauts and wanted to be one, but my mom couldn't find any astronaut clothing particularly girls underwear so she ended up using iron on fabric patches to make some for her at home.

Look for Sally Ride's educational stuff! She did a huuuuge amount of work promoting education for children and girls for getting into stem, and she was a brilliant astronaut

More Witch Hat Atelier fanart! Because Custas' story is just too tragic 😭

my mum has severe knee problems and needs a replacement. Today she was told she's too fat to be operated on and the knee specialist suggested she gets a gastric band - which also involves surgery. So my mum was like first of all you didn't read my file because it explains that I'm not fat because I eat too much second of all you said it's impossible for me to get surgery and then suggested I get a surgery about it? He then asked her her weight and height, didn't believe her answer, and made her prove it to him because she "looks fatter than that". So she was like so you also just entirely based this on looks instead of actual numbers?

My mom went through something similar. She needed a knee replacement and her doctor wouldn’t okay it until she lost weight, which was difficult given the whole knee problem preventing her from walking thing. He told her she was too dangerous to operate on and that there were just too many risks.

My mom tried to lose weight in vain for months before she finally gave into my begging her to get a second opinion. The first doctor she saw next scheduled her for surgery the same day she met him. When my mom asked about the risk of operating on her he told her that there was some minor risks for complication and that all she would need to do to alleviate the risk was spend an extra night in the hospital so that they could keep a look out for any complications.

There were zero. There were also zero complications when she had her other knee done, her hip replaced and her gallbladder removed.

Almost like the first doctor was entirely full of shit and just trying to coerce his patient to lose weight by scaring her for fucking nothing, even when she was living day to day in excruciating pain and desperately needed a surgery.

I think the mentality of "why bother doing something if you're not good at it?" feeds directly into "if you're good at it why aren't you monetizing it?". At its core I really think its about commodifying every last shred of labor and experience.

Adding that this is literally a huge reason we don’t leave unsolicited criticism on things like fanworks- fanfiction, fanart, fan crafts etc. Because there’s a LOT of people out there who are just doing this for the fun of it. They’re doing it for the same reason people go on walks- to feel good. And receiving crit they didn’t ask for doesn’t feel good.

doomerism is just bootlicking btw

I need yall to remember. "There's no point in resisting" is not a rational thought and if you really believe that you need to pay more attention. they just ran ice out of Charlotte. people have begun invoking the second amendment more and more. we have communities fighting back the gestapo and winning. trump is hemorrhaging support. his top sycophant just resigned after tearing into him. idc if her motivations are less than pure-hearted, the fact that she's seeing the writing on the wall and jumping ship is a good sign. articles of impeachment have been reintroduced and this time the sponsor wants to force a vote. the epstein files have got them scrambling. and if I might repeat my point from earlier, cities and communities are successfully fighting off ice. they are literally retreating. he doesn't have the courts, he doesn't have the police, that's why he needs ice in the first place. and he's losing the congress and senate.

you guys see that video of rednecks chasing ice into the woods during hunting season? you are the ones falling into line. you are the ones kissing the ring.

as chappell roan said: it's not over til it's over. and it's never over.

What I wish people would understand about harm reduction is that. Like. When addicts want to use. We’re going to find a way to use. If I had to put myself in dangerous places and around dangerous people to find and use drugs, I did. If I only had access to an old dirty HRT needle that was wayyy too big to safely use for IV meth and heroin, then I was using that needle.

Giving addicts access to clean supplies and safe places to use doesn’t encourage any more of us than there already are to start using. It just helps keep more of us alive long enough for us to be ready to get help.

I didn't want to lose these tags

trans children deserve to go through the correct puberty at the same time as their peers

there needs to be a third option . going through a puberty that causes distress or staying in an underdeveloped body for years until its decided youre allowed to make decisions over your own body is not a good choice !

informed consent + bodily autonomy for children is a really really important goal in healthcare and that includes trans healthcare . trans kids deserve to decide for themselves the steps they want to take + have access to the necessary information to help them make that decision . why is this an insane opinion to have even within the trans community
