Intro Post?

I don't get how tumblr works but here goes I guess I'm Materia. The most common alternate name that I go by online is Abyss, as that's what my closest friends call me. Personally, it doesn't make a difference to me, so address me as you'd like.

I'm cis-male nonbinary for the time being(still figuring out if this’ll work for me), and my pronouns are he/they. They is preferred, but not by much, use either of the two.

I'm a university student. I'm currently into fields such as data analysis, data engineering, network analysis, and machine learning.

I'm really big on video games, particularly platformers, RPGs and roguelikes. Some of my favourite games are Terraria, Rain World, Celeste, Noita, Dwarf Fortress(Adventure mode more than Fortress mode tbf) and Ark Survival Evolved. I also like idle games. I play sometimes play Your Chronicle, Trimps, and Realm Grinder for examples. And some other personal favorites of mine that I occasionally come back to include Tetris, Sudoku and Minesweeper. I play on Tetr.io, as well as Tetris: Effect Connected, and I'm getting into Tetris 99 on Switch. I play the other two online or local apps, though I also play 4D Minesweeper on Steam. Oh yeah, and I also play Pokemon Showdown. Never owned a pokemon game, though. At the behest of some of my closest friends...I am also a semi-regular Granblue Fantasy player. So there's that too, I guess. If it isn't already clear, I'm a fan of Touhou(it is probably top 3 on my favourite game series of all time), and I love Touhou fanarts, listening to the music, and I'm always looking out for the new games. I'm not one to interact much with other's work, but I will occasionally reblog touhou related content here.

One of my main interests, and my main reason for deciding to have some activity on this blog: I've always wanted to get into game development. Inspired by Dwarf Fortress and other traditional roguelike-esque games, I wanted to create one on my own. So...yeah, I've started doing that. For a while now, actually. The final project will be an 3D, tile-based, open-world traditional roguelike set in your typical fantasy world. It's open world in the sense that there will be a 'world' to explore, with many cities, dungeons, and wilderness areas to move along. The main features of the roguelike will be the ability to play as any kind of creature you desire. That is, there will be monsters and humanoids('Greater Races' like humans, elves, etc), and there will be no restrictions on which species you can play as at character creation. You could play as a rat, slime, giant or dragon, with the social, cultural and mechanical restrictions of each. Moreover, I'll aim to incorporate a social and autonomous aspect to the NPCs, allowing them to interact with each other and you in complex ways, to the point that the world progresses even if you yourself are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The game will have class and species evolution systems, fairly complex skill systems, procedurally generated equipments, interesting enchantments, and more. Many of the systems I just described are either satisfactory or almost completed as of the time I'm making this post.

My main activity on this blog will be documenting my progress and updates on the game and hopefully share the idea with some people. Also, it'll motivate me to work on it more, I guess :) Expect this blog to be about my semi-random ramblings about the game a lot of the time.
