Orangework Lennson 3C, 2017. A custom-built, off-road camper van based on a Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 320 CDI, designed for expedition travel, featuring a compact living space built on a lifted G-Wagon’s chassis.
Costume armor and sword in the classical style. French, c. 1788–90. Various materials. Metropolitan Museum of Art.
From the Met:
Pageants in pseudoclassical dress were popular in Europe from the sixteenth through the eighteenth century. An elaborate costume of the kind displayed here may have been worn for a theatrical performance or a court festivity, such as a ball or carousel in which the theme was taken from classical mythology or history. The embroidered tunic represents an embossed bronze cuirass of the type worn by high-ranking Roman officers. The stylized Greek helmet is richly decorated with mythological and allegorical figures. Inside the helmet is the original paper label that identifies the Parisian maker as Halle dit Mercier and advertises his ability to provide helmets, shields, masks, costumes, and scenery for any occasion.
The Gimli Glider! So many things came together to make this safe landing:
If you have 27 spare minutes and want an excruciatingly detailed, technical breakdown of what happened as told by a real pilot, here’s the Mentour Pilot episode on the Gimli Glider.
I read an article about this back around 1990 and my favorite part was that, after landing and stopping, the pilots were reflexively going through the “crash landing” checklist, shutting down all the fuel pumps and lines to prevent a fire from spreading, until it dawned on them halfway through that they didn’t need to do those steps because the tanks were quite empty.
How did Dogma, a relatively low-budget film, manage to have the only good-looking angel wings? Like, even movies with tons of FX dollars tend to fuck them up and they look bad. These are very stylized, and you can tell they’re not real feathers, but they actually look… better than real feathers? They have a balance of curvature and sharp angles that just make for a great silhouette and they move wonderfully. I cannot figure this out!!
e: I looked on The Internet
I don’t know this show but that’s a fucking practical effect??! Better than most cg. Holy shit.
Please go look up the Crooked Feather. They make practical wings! They are so cool. Someday…. Someday I will have a pair 😂
This is great. You can see how much effort it takes Baffleck with his core muscles to keep his posture upright when they wings are moving. Which I love, because having enormous, working wings would put a huge strain on a humanoid body. It’s good when things don’t seem effortless.
Honestly just reblogging an excise to add these. Alan Rickman in eyeliner and wings? Yes please.
“Just with friends, I don’t feel like I am fully able to be earnest with them if I don’t establish a touch barrier with them — consensually, of course!” Williams said with a laugh. “But the similarity for me and Shane is that, especially when we’re in love, there needs to be constant touching even when the scene isn’t intimate in that sort of way.”
