Goncharov (1973)
This was such a great fucking movie.
We really don't talk enough about Goncharov on this site.
i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.
Missed Komahina opportunity where Komaeda and Hinata fall in love in the simulation, but Komaeda lives to the bit at the end when Kamakura is revealed, and Komaeda then has to face the despair of knowing the guy he loves got lobotomied into a fucked up sociopathic version of himself long ago by the school he idolized, like. I mean. Komaeda finally getting the love he wanted all along only to lose it in the worst way possible and grieving someone who is still standing right there, alive but seemingly only in this hellish killing sim? I would like to see it, that's all I'm saying.
The beforan ancestors made me realize how on the nose it is for the “alternia and beforus are 4chan and tumblr” metaphor for alternia to be this social darwinistic hellscape engineered to radicalize kids into bloodthirsty monsters and beforus to be a post scarcity utopia that is somehow so unspeakably annoying and thoroughly condescending that nobody would ever actually want to live there
