Discussions of trans women in sports often focus on elite/professional sports which honestly I find it hard to care about but the more common scenario of “we’re going to legally ban a high school girl from playing sports with her friends because she’s trans” is just profoundly evil

i remember when utah's (republican) governor ended up vetoing a law banning transgender students from playing high school sports when he looked at the numbers, and there were only four trans students in the state playing sports at all. he released a clumsily worded but surprisingly compassionate statement about the decision.

I must admit, I am not an expert on transgenderism. I struggle to understand so much of it, and the science is conflicting. When in doubt, however, I always try to err on the side of kindness, mercy, and compassion. I also try to get proximate, and I am learning so much from our transgender community. They are great kids who face enormous struggles. Here are the numbers that have most impacted my decision: 75,000, 4, 1, 86 and 56. 75,000 high school kids participating in high school sports in Utah. 4 transgender kids playing high school sports in Utah. 1 transgender student playing girls sports. 86% of trans youth reporting suicidality. 56% of trans youth having attempted suicide. Four kids and only one of them playing girls sports. That’s what all of this is about. Four kids who aren’t dominating or winning trophies or taking scholarships. Four kids who are just trying to find some friends and feel like they are a part of something. Four kids trying to get through each day. Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I don’t understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do. But I want them to live.

of course, it didn't amount to much. they overrode his veto. it's just so cartoonishly evil. an entire state's political body so desperate to terrorize this one little trans girl.

The Trump Administration is an autoimmune disorder sabotaging the things that actually made America if not great at least powerful: its economy, its higher education system, its international relations, its crucial immigrant workforce, its functioning federal government, its public health systems, the rule of law, and lots of other things like food safety and clean water. Part of this disorder is a devout belief that violence is power, when it is what you resort to when the power of persuasion or alliance or other forms of building lasting power have failed, and often how you further sabotage those powers that come through relationship and respect. It's the logic of abusers who don't understand that you can fear them without respecting them.

Well, here's a new accursed UI pattern.

When you try to book a flight on Chase rewards and key in the exact code for the airport you want to go to, it suggests a bunch of non-matching airports, and puts the exact match like 10 options down.

The fact that Donald Trump is in the Epstein files isn't a surprise. He's a convicted sexual predator who was friends with Epstein. The public knew Epstein was trafficking girls through Mar-a-lago years ago. It's a surprise the evidence is just there in plain text, nearly impossible to explain away, but it's not a surprise the files implicate Trump.

What is a surprise is that there isn't anything implicating Bill Clinton. I mean, if there was they would have put it out already. There are some liberals that are implicated, but no real big Democrat names.

Really makes you wonder why the Biden administration kept it secret.

Oh, that one’s easy. It’s this idea the Democrats have held onto for decades that if they don’t hold Republicans accountable, it will make it easier to persuade some of them to go along with their agenda every now and then. That it hasn’t yet worked and that Republicans constantly say they will never work with Democrats no matter what they do will not shake their faith.

Ah yes, the West Wing theory of politics. Some Republicans are bad apples, but most of them are basically just good people who mostly agree with Democrats except on some issues like taxes. If we just walk and talk long enough we'll find common ground.

There's also this fear of being accused of using their authority to punish their enemies that leads Democrats to being overly cautious and making sure they "do things the right way" even though Republicans openly use their authority to punish their enemies and will accuse Democrats of abusing the system regardless when they face consequences.

Sorry for not uploading in a long time I decided to go back to school to try to get a bachelors degree, and also had some life stuff going on making me have less time for drawing. I'm not done but my output is going to be slow for a while. Besides that I wanted to upload one more piece before the end of the year, and ended up making this gigan drawing because i hope either him or space godzilla show up in supernova, and two I always like this cybernetic space chicken and just wanted to draw him.

anyway this idea has been rolling around my brain like a loose marble for WEEKS and then it fought me like a beast. I persevered, and now you get to suffer with me (blows you a kiss)

IT’S HERE!! The 8th Annual DOUG JONES 60 SECOND CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!! Stay until the end, because if the singing isn’t horrible enough, the dad joke will be!
